Unironically correct, it's on page 26 in their Operator's Manual for the mp5 and its variants. They actually warn against guiding it forward as it could diminish pressure and cause the gun to fail to chamber a round, so not only is it recommended, according to H&K it's actually the only correct and safe way to operate it.

He didn’t do it correctly.
First of all, you can’t differentiate equations normally where X is multiplied by another X, in this case the two Xs being the two brackets.
Second of all, the upper part is divided by the lower part so it can be rewritten into ((x + 2)^2) * ((x - 1)^-3).
This means if (x + 2)^2 is A (differentiated A is dA) and (x - 1)^3 is B (differentiated B is dB) then we can rewrite the equation into
(B*dA - A*dB)/B^2
So
(((x - 1)^3)2(x + 2) - ((x + 2)^2)3((x - 1)^2))/((x - 1)^6) =
= -((x + 2)(x + 8))/((x - 1)^4)
You need to use quotient rule to find the derivative, so if the equation is A over B, then it would be A’B - B’A / B^2
(A would be the numerator in the function, and B would be the denominator)

You actually need to do the quotient rule for that. Or you cand do the product rule by turning the exponent of the denominator to a negative then multiplying it to the numerator.
