Good video! Some thoughts: Comparisons based on a single try are not particularly scientific, but it's easy to believe the value of swimskins since Olympic swimmers actually use them. However, if it only gains you 30-60 seconds over 3.8km, many will probably lose that when changing in transition. It's up for debate whether a slower swimmer has more or less to gain. I would also add that it depends on the trisuit. Some trisuits are a complete drag in the water and make you feel like you're drowning. However, if you have the money for a swimskin, you definitely have the money for a quality trisuit. One certain use case is if you have to wear a specific trisuit (your club for instance) during the race but you don't actually like swimming in it.
Cracking time for 400 both of you! I've had my first non wetsuit swim this summer, ended up swimming not too bad for my standards but definitely a higher intensity too...
Soooo... my wife walked in right as y’all were zooming in on Frazier’s smuggled grapes... she laughed and said “something you want to tell me?” I’m still searching for a viable newer. 😂
I did an Olympic triathlon without a skin suit because the temperature was warm and wetsuit was not legal. Then I decided to get a skin suit and I really like it. I use it in Olympic, 70.3 and even full ironman distance tris, I am not a pretty good swimmer so it does makes a difference. Also, it does not take too long for me to remove it on T1. I don't think I would buy it for short distance triathlons but if you are going to do long distance and are not a pretty good swimmer I think it can really help.
2 years late commenting, but it’s very informative. Based on good swimming presenters, it proves that a good tri suit is the way to go. I’m fairly sure it would take 6 seconds, or more, to remove a swim skin in T1.
Intresting. I own the Roka Trisuite, the cut is great except for the arms, I noticed they were to lose underwater in this video as well. I appreciate a swimsuite can be faster but I think you would need to concider your variability over 400mtrs.
Benjamin Briu It’s awesome man. Me personally I did the St. Croix USVI event a couple years ago, and used a swim skin. Didn’t swim with it it beforehand, but, used a wetsuit in a couple other non Ironman branded events. The swimskin I felt lighter, more free, and freedom, along with being fresher out of the water as you’re not lugging that 10lb suit around for 1.2mi. But... if your a person who needs the extra flotation of a wetsuit or have saggy feet/weak core.... swinskin is going to flaunt your imperfections very quickly. Good luck!!!
I will be attempting my firsttriathlon and this content is very helpful ..My first race will be an open swim non pool i am expecting warm weather so i am thinking tri suit or swimskin my priority is to finish but i am a confident swimmer so i would like to do well in that discipline ..
I see the benefits of both swimskin and trisuit: but why do so many pros combine a sleeveless swimskin with a sleeved trisuit during the swim? Isn't any trisuit that is aero enough (i.e. tight enough to have no wrinkles in aero position) going to be too tight when swimmin? #gtncoachescorner
can swimmers wear swimskins? by swimmers i mean like in swim competitions, not triathlons. i know there are tech suits, but im wondering if swimskins can be worn too
How long is the swim? At 1500m or longer I am faster in a wetsuit but shorter I am worth not wearing it and saving time in T1.....this is interesting for a swimskin
stug45 so, shorter than 1500m you just wear the tri suit? If you aren’t a pro, or trying to qualify for something big, the seconds saved in the water may be eaten up in T1 potentially.
The 6 seconds was the difference for 400 meters. Apply the same ratio over the course of a 70.3/140.6 triathlon and it comes out be 24/58 seconds respectively. Now you're getting into real time savings regardless if you have to take it off. In addition, the value of a return on a swimskin/wetsuit is greater for a slower swimmer than a faster swimmer as shown by the difference between Fraser/Heather. So if you're not a Pro or an ex-collegiate swimmer you can expect even more gains from wearing a swimskin.
2:53 - Brave man, Fraser. I'm not sure I'd be so comfortable with that kind of close up.
flat
😂

Very good thoughts
Training for triathlon next year.. You lot are my bible thanks for all the content! :)
Allan Graham check out Triathlon Taren, too.

Meh, Just roll with it. You could do worse than Frazier if you were to swing that way. Haha
Smuggled grapes! Hilarious
Thanks! very helpful! A video comparison of wetsuit vs swimskin would also be great!

I live in Wisconsin usa and I think I'm going to go for a tri suit just because quicker t1 transfer and warmer in colder days
I’m getting ready for Puerto Rico 70.3 I’m doing swimskin long sleeve! Wish me luck! First swim w no wet suit !

How long did it take to take off the swim skin? Probably lost time in a tri
I see Roka has been buying these promos left and right :) Triathlon Taren posted one just last week.
Great video and information.

Could you talk about some books you read or you recomend about triathlon training and knowledge? Maybe books you read before or which are popular...
Populär but amazing: trainingbible for triathletes
Can you swim in a tri suit consisting of two peace?
👍🏻thank you

I live in a warm climate and don't have a swim skin :)
I bought a swimskin for such a event. It's quicker, so why should I opt not for it?
Because you'll need to take it off at T1, so it could potentially slow you down overall.

@@ktadema true, I'm speaking of Mid or Long Distance.
@@EatMyPropwash ITU style trisuit would be faster than the sleeved long course suits that they tested.
Heather
Swimskin vs a lighter ITU suit like a Zerod
Tal faster
Why do you have to make contributions for blessings
