  • I went to the tree service yard to pick up some free firewood. There was a couple species there that I could not identify, so if you know what species they are, then let me know in the comments.

    I was wondering the same thing about identical trees on our property outside Pittsburgh just this past weekend. The answer has alluded me for years. Research most always leads to a random cherry species or birch, but I know you’re pretty confident it’s not those.
    I’m considering asking on an online firewood forum or perhaps emailing the local Penn State Ag Extension as there are a few other trees I can’t identify 100%.
    I looked for buds on the trees Saturday but, unfortunately, there were no branches low enough to get a picture or see with the naked eye. Perhaps if I’m proactive enough I can get a leafed out branch down or catch a clear enough picture in the coming months (or, if I get an answer online), I’ll let you know!

      Ya, I get a lot of ornamental cherry (and rarely black cherry), as well as birch. I should sceenshot it and post to an FB forum. Ok, I'm curious to see what it is.

    • @OntarioFirewoodResource
      @OntarioFirewoodResource  6 місяців тому +1

      That tree service yard has been supplying a lot lately. I don't know what that red stuff is. I may have heard of it before, but that is probably the rarest catch out of everything I've come across. Ive even had more ironwood that that stuff.

    • @OntarioFirewoodResource
      @OntarioFirewoodResource  6 місяців тому

      Hey man, not black cherry, that almost never pops up here. There's some in the forested areas in the city, but not planted anywhere. There's lots of ornamental cherry, a softer cherry that always has smooth bark, unlike a mature black cherry. Ornamwntal cherry does look like this species, thats what throws me off. Still haven't figured it out

    The bark on the one branch looks like birch - we have hard birch down here in Pa. good for firewood because it is very hard - but you need to cut it up otherwise it will rot fast because the bark is water proof - it should smell like birch beer

      Oldtimers knew they grew to a massive size quickly so they planted them around their houses and fields to block the wind.

      @OntarioFirewoodResource  6 місяців тому +1

      Hey, good evening. You have tonsearch "no copyright music" there are entire channels with thousands of tunes to choose from. Always check copyright status after uploading and before making the video public. Copyright strikes aren't always accurate. I once got a strike and they said it was a totally different song. A few times, I have been using songs numerous times and then the next time it's flagged for copyright. This just happened with the winter fest video....i reuploadrd after correcting mistakes and the second one noted copyright.
      If you're making shorts videos, you can use copyright anytime
