A Tilt shift +2x macro lens for around $400, what do you guys think?
by any chance have you tried the version for GFX and Hasselblad? version without tilf/shift function? I really want to use it on my medium format camera as a budget and fun macro lens. the 120mm is too big for now. Thanks for the video, the only super detail review i can find.
Nice review Richard. Nice to see an affordable tilt shift that doubles as a macro
thanks for watching Barry! Agree it's great to see affordable and special lens like this
Thank you for making a nice, fair and just review of TT Artisan Tilt-shift macro lens 2X!
thank you Daniel. Glad you like the video
Short telephoto tilt/shift lenses are super useful for product photographers, and macro capability broadens the appeal even more. The creative bokeh effects I’m sure will interest a lot of wedding and portrait photographers who want to add a cool new look to their toolkit. While I could imagine the 90° rotation could potentially limit more advanced possibilities, that’s still a lot of lens for the price. Thanks for making the video, Richard!
All the best,
Chris
hey Chris, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Definitely agree with your comment "a lot of lens for the price"
I eventually bought a Sigma 105mm, f2.8 for the simple reason that I can use it for macro with focus stacking and I can choose my out of focus background in post. It's also a decent portrait lens.
As far as tilt is concerned, Fotodiox makes nice Canon EF-mount adapters, but if I'm honest, I would be more interested in getting a 35mm Lensbaby.
Haven't used shift for years. I guess stitching and cropping has become too convenient.
Very interesting review nonetheless, thank you very much! Have a great day!
Thanks Rod! Have a great day too!
An interesting lens and a thorough review but I would like to hear more about using the shift function at macro distances to increase the effective depth of focus for tiny subjects.
hey Ian, thanks for watching! That's a good suggestion. I will keep that in mind, and see if i can do something like that for my next tilt-shift lens review.
Seen a few reviews on this and you're the only one addressing IQ on corners once the lens is shifted.
thanks Simon. Oh i haven't watch other reviews yet. but a bit surprised if no one tested the shifted corner image quality.
It seems the Laowa optics are tad better. Tilt shift is interesting. Tilt is useful in macro as shallow dof plane of focus is now movable. But im not sure about the shift functionality. Adjusting perspective is generally used on wide angle lenses for architecture.
Wow, the Laowa is really great compared to the TTartisan. The sharpness at 2.8 is insane, I actually don't think the TT is able to catch up - you can see the Laowa being so sharp that it creates moiree in the finest details of the test image! And calling it "slightly" sharper at 2x is a bit of an understatement. The TT looks like a nice gimmick and is probably very interesting for video/cinema - but for macro photography the Laowa is simply the better lens. And considering the 90mm Laowa is also released and this lens is even optimised for mirrorless cameras, I'd say the Laowa 90mm 2.8 is probably the best macro lens out there at the moment.
EDIT: also the Laowa 90mm is much better with regards to flare.
the Laowa 90mm 2.8 would have to be good, considering it is almost double the price of the TT and similar in secondhand pricing to almost every macro lens ever made.
Great review! Does the shift enough to make architecture straight? Do you think pair this TTArtisan 100mm F2.8 T/S 2X MACRO lens (crop to 150mm too) with Laowa 15mm tilt lens (crop to 22.5mm too) and Sony A7RV is great the only 2 lens for your everyday and travel creative shoot use? I will get Panasonic HC-X1500 25-600mm for power zoom video too!
in most cases, no, because of the long focal length, it's not really suitable unless the building is not tall and you are shooting from far away
I see by the way, do you know why for tilt lens, the tilted blur background isn't render in 3D space like it's blur behind objects but looks 2D on one side and another on the photo/video while untilted normal background blue you can move the focus in and out and it will go in front and behind the object?
It is a very interesting lens, I would like to get it for the Sony E. But it is no longer available anywhere, only the Fuji and Canon version on Ebay, but I don't know if it works with an adapter.
I guess I'll try the ttartisan 50mm tilt + a Raynox DCR-250.
I love your channel, very useful videos. :D
interesting! maybe just all sold out right now?
no m43 sadly
M43 will come soon!
This product is rediculous ! According my knowledge SHIFT function is only usefull on WIDE ANGLE. Shift is a vertical mechanical movement of the lens to correct distorsion, especially for ARCHITECTURE shootings with WIDE ANGLE. Shift fonction with a TELE is useless !
if you don't know, canon has a 135mm tilt shift macro lens, which helps a lot in commercial product photography, they help change the field of view so the product will be in full focus. The same can be applied to commercial food photography.
@@ucpham-pc3ix he seems not to know a lot overall honestly. :)
