  • We did the Puffin Encounter at the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward, Alaska on June 4, 2021. We got a chance to go behind the scenes in the aviary and see how they care for the birds, then we got to go out into the main enclosure and feed the birds.
We hand-fed fish to Horned Puffins, Tufted Puffins, Common Murres, King Eiders, Pigeon Guillemots, Red-legged Kittiwakes, Rhinoceros Auklets, Smews, Harlequin Ducks and Long-tailed Ducks.
When we got into the enclosure, we first met "Dory", a Tufted Puffin that has been there for many years. Kriste visited the SeaLife Center in 2008 and did the Puffin Encounter and saw the same "Dory", so that was cool that the bird was still there. They have a lifespan of about 20 years.
Sorry for the movement in the video. The GoPro is strapped to my head.
