  • Driving the Dalton Highway - 50X Timelapse - Southbound - Deadhorse to Fairbanks - 4K60
This is what it would look like driving this 500-mile journey at over 2,000 MPH!
Over four days in June 2021, we drove Alaska's Dalton Highway from Fairbanks to Deadhorse (Prudhoe Bay) and back. This is the northern-most road in North America and the journey is almost 500 miles each way on an isolated and mostly gravel road that follows the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System from Fairbanks to the Arctic Ocean. The first 80 miles of the journey are on the Steese and then Elliott Highways and then the last 414 miles are on the Dalton Highway.
We rented a Ford Explorer from Arctic Outfitters for this trip. They have "gravel-ready" rental cars specifically for driving the Dalton Highway, as most regular rental car companies specifically prohibit travel on the Dalton Highway and many other gravel roads in Alaska.
This is a 50X timelapse video from a GoPro showing a two-day journey southbound from Deadhorse to Fairbanks stopped briefly along the way for photography, wildlife viewing, drone flying, points of interest, potty breaks, naps, etc.
The stretch of road between Deadhorse and Coldfoot is by far the longest stretch of road in the United States between services - 240 miles between gas stations.
