    I live in Alaska. I'm seeing comments saying "Why would anyone want to live there." Please don't say that. There are lots of other towns above and under the Arctic Circle too. You have to realize that living there is a way of life, (hunting, fishing, whaling, etc). I know this because I know some people who live in Barrow and also I'm Yupi'k, which is one of many cultures here in Alaska. Living up here isn't always cold and dark, that happens in the winter time. Plus its beautiful. Even in the city!

      Mantana Jansi just having a government is not good enough for a state to survive on its own. It needs an economy, most of the states receive federal funding to help rebuild roads and fund education. California however, would probably do the best on its own since its economy is about as big as France's. Then there is also military defense, every state would have no way to defend itself from other countries. It'll just be one giant disaster.

    Its no longer Barrow, it's Utqiagvik. I love it there. Buy the way we have lots of places you cant drive to. It's illegal to buy sell or possess, it's a dry Village. Just like Manokotak, Togiak etc. Its currently 46 degrees in Utqiagvik today.

      A reason I would possibly live there, Would be because its huge open land available while it is a small town that is only accessible by plane so crime isn't an issue, While its a snowy place so it's never too hot. some people like me prefer the cold over the heat

    I visited Barrow in 1985. Flew up on Alaska Airlines. Stayed at the Top of the World Hotel. I was there in July. It was daylight, 24 hours a day. A very unique experience.

    A couple points to make.
    1) There is a road. You drive from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay, on the Dalton Highway, From there, It's called the Community Winter Access Trail (CWAT) and you can only use it during the winter. Convoys of cars drive from Prudhoe Bay to Utqiagvik, but you are required to get approval to use it.
    2) It's not really dark in the winter. The sun never fully rises, but there is some light on the horizon, and the tundra is covered in white snow that makes it easy to see. Either the city lights bounce off low clouds and illuminate town, or the moon does it.
    3) Utqiagvik is the new official name. Many locals still prefer the old name.
    4) You can see polar bears, snowy owls, arctic fox in and around town. It has some of the best birding in North America!

    Dude, really cool that you went and filmed yourself. It's amazing seeing what your videos are becoming! Could you include metric measurements in some way though? You have a lot of fans outside the US.

    • @Abnarly
      @Abnarly 6 років тому

      PaulCosch Well it makes sense that he has used imperial for this video since Alaska is part of the US

    • @Abnarly
      @Abnarly 6 років тому +1

      Steven Green A video.. in the US.. about a US town.. in the US.. would obviously be appealing to those of us in the US.. And we just happen to use imperial.. so it'd make sense the video used that measurement for us viewers in the US.. if foreigners want to understand the measurements they can do a quick Google search..

    • @Abnarly
      @Abnarly 6 років тому

      Steven Green Yes but admittedly most viewers who watch these videos especially about the *_USA_* are mainly watched by people here in the *_USA._*

    • @Abnarly
      @Abnarly 6 років тому

      Steven Green Oh I am very interested in the world outside the US, but I don't expect them to covert to imperial for us Americans when they're talking about another country, if I really wanted conversions I'd do it myself, I really don't understand how you don't get this.
