Thanks for the Video Allie! Great as always (especially with Georgie) I do have some questions about the menstrual cycle: 1) How long after you were weight restored did your period occur? 2) Any specific nutritional or training changes that helped it start? 3) Would you recommend getting a body fat percentage test to see if increasing it could cause a cycle to start? Thank you so much and glad to see you’re doing well!
I thought what's really interesting is what an eating/fitness coach was saying (I think in a video of nell rojas). reducing the weight and trying to have this perfect weight/strength ratio is running on a knifes edge. if we do it, we're in very big danger harming ourself and following having an even worse performance (and if someoens already in an ed, this triggers it even harder, whats kind of turned around)... it's better to carry more weight and being able to proceed in the training. Hey Allie! I’m in high school and don’t own a gym membership nor do we hit the weight room for track very much. I try to do my own dumbbell workouts at home but I was wondering how much of them I should be doing and what kind is good for runners? Thank you!
I think weight training is definitely good, but you should be in contact with your coach and make sure he knows what you're doing. With that said, my coach, David Roche, has a UA-cam channel with both "mountain legs" and "ultra legs" video routines. Doing each of those 1-2 times per week is great!

hey allie! i have a question about anxiety. i’m a female distance runner in middle school. i have struggled with so much self-doubt and comparison these past years especially with middle school boys talking me down and just overall being rude. so how do you deal with anxiety when it comes to comparison? how do you convince yourself to persevere during moments where u just don’t feel like ur enough?
Not Allie obviously…but as a former D1 college female runner myself I wanted to comment. I’m so sorry that boys are bullying you, it isn’t okay and if it’s severe enough don’t be afraid to go to your coach, parents, teachers, or whoever else you feel comfortable with for support. Anxiety and self-doubt can be really hard to manage, but something that may be helpful is writing down positive affirmations and accomplishments that you can look at when you’re feeling down. For example “I am strong” “I did really well during x workout”. Whatever helps you feel good. I don’t know you but I am rooting for you! ❤😊

I saw a meme on Facebook and instantly thought of you. The heading was "I tried skipping coffee one morning, and....my pending court date is in 4 weeks!" Of course you wouldn't be that extreme, but I am thinking if no coffee by lunchtime, perhaps you might be just a teency-weency bit grouchy? Oh, when you mentioned the elliptical.....you and Spencer both could likely break my PR for the mile, but I did 3:24. Maybe that is the only running PR I have that might be ahead of you, aside from going to the bathroom 5 times in one marathon while only using the port-a-potty once. Hey.....I knew the course really well and the dumpsters one could hide behind! I saw your great spokes modeling for Magic Spoon. I think commercials are calling out for Allie O! BTW protein bars, I like them, but out of consideration for anybody in my near vicinity, I should avoid them.... at least if there isn't a dog nearby that I can place the farting blame upon! Here is my question....do you ever eat Cliff Bars? I like them, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, and they have organic cane sugar, which is much better than regular processed sugar. Cliff Bars have the carbs for a good pre-run meal of sorts. If I am running 10 miles or less, 1/2 a cliff bar, and sometimes a banana. More than 10...a full Cliff Bar, and for a Marathon, I bring an additional Cliff Bar and gels. Great roommate story. Apparently she forgot to give you a leash to keep her off the roof of the car, and lord knows where else. I am almost wondering if her parents had used a harness for her after she learned to walk! Great answer for not fat shaming kids, but of sharing knowledge with positive encouragement and making activities and exercise fun. As a former teacher I give you an A+ for that answer. Then the question of alternative career options...you can do anything that you would enjoy. Chef, bakery owner, spokesmodel, but I would say, whatever you are doing....own it....set up your business, as you have serious business talent, incredible accountability and honesty, and have the nontransferable skill of connecting with people in a very genuine and caring manner. BTW...the subscribers that thought of 10,000 ants on Georgie.....and the maximum number of Kindergartners you could beat up....I think they need therapy!!! I used to eat cliff bars a lot, but since I get similar products from other brands (Transparent Labs, Untapped, etc) for free now, I eat those instead. Cliff bars are great though!
@@allie_ostrander Thank you for sharing that Allie, as you have great knowledge of the best nutrition to have prior to a run or race. Aw Allie, i felt sad when you said you dont look at yourself in the mirror. I hope that one day you can see yourself as beautiful and confident when you look in the mirror 🙏
I am curious how difficult it was/is to be out in your racing outfit while you were in treatment or gaining weight in recovery? I see your videos of those times imagine that would add another layer to the whole body discomfort, body dysmorphia, body image piece. I always find the clothing piece (and growing out clothes) to be such a difficult part of recovery, every time I’ve had to go into hospital for treatment. So I really commend you, Allie!❤
yeah, I do think the revealing uniforms made it a little more difficult. I was happy when I made the world team that there were a few different uniforms to choose from!
I thought you might be a pioneer on the "only on race" question and say US Road Steeple Championships (ouch!). 😂 Secretly, though, I was hoping you would say Mt Marathon.
The research is mixed. They are good for reducing inflammation, but inflammation is also how adaptations occur, so you don't want to suppress it too much.
I have a book recommendation: Good for a Girl: a Woman Running in a Man's world. Honestly it is an amazing book that ANYONE should read if they are or around a woman running.
He's been super helpful, especially because he supported me so much and challenged me to fight the ed, but also because he models such a healthy relationship with food
My husband says Georgie could almost definitely beat that many ants, but it would depend on whether he knew he was being attacked and committed to fighting back.
Hi allie! I'm in high school and have struggled with lots of injuries (LOTS) and my parents tell me its due to puberty, but isn't that supposed to make me a healthier runner? and I don't over do anything do you have any tips with staying injury free
I think that puberty will definitely make you a stronger runner, but when you're going through it, your body can change pretty rapidly, so there's certainly an adjustment period. While your body is adjusting, my advice would be to incorporate a strength training routine into your schedule (this helps build bone density and muscle mass), reduce your mileage and replace with low-impact cross training, eat plenty and whatever you're hungry for, and talk to your coach/trainer/doctor/parents (or whoever you're comfortable with) about what you're going through and let them help you too :)
Here's my period question: Do you think that there should be more education to young female athletes on the importance about having a menstrual cycle, because I have a lot of my own personal teammates that have lost their period and have told me it's not that big of a deal because it's just part of being an athlete.
The inevitable taunting you would do as you took down each kindergartner might also affect the overall count. LOL Love the humor, honesty and knowledge sharing you do in your posts.
related to the 50k q, is there a distance ur most looking forward to running eventually? also how could you do your boy like that i got my man georgie against a hundred thousand ants 😤😤, with those twirls and foot speed he can at least smush some with his paws and get away and keep repeating that
I am really looking forward to doing both a marathon and a 100 miler someday! Also I love the faith you have in Georgie...I really hope that all his spinning has prepared him for battle because if so that would be epic.
To the Kindergarteners question, you just give them crayons and a piece of paper 📝. They will be distracted, a win win situation. That way, you “beat” them 😊

What are your thoughts on reduced BW run training? Like alter-g or LEVER
Oh so curios what your hobbies are outside of running
I love reading, cooking, walking Georgie, paddle boarding, hiking, and watching a good show or movie!
😂 Secretly, though, I was hoping you would say Mt Marathon.
haha if that were a race, I would have said it!
what do you think about ice baths as a form of recovery after running?
The research is mixed. They are good for reducing inflammation, but inflammation is also how adaptations occur, so you don't want to suppress it too much.
alright thanks!@@allie_ostrander
I have a book recommendation: Good for a Girl: a Woman Running in a Man's world. Honestly it is an amazing book that ANYONE should read if they are or around a woman running.
I need to read that one!
I am so glad to know I am not the only person who hates chocolate!
you are not alone!
Question about Ed❤: What are things you do on a bad day to help yourself feel better ?
wear baggy clothes, talk to my sister or Spencer, write down my feelings (and question their logic), and distract myself with a game, book, or movie
Are you racing the Carlsbad 5000 this year they changed the course. Thanks
not sure yet!
🧡 My question: do you watch any runner youtubers? Or generally, do you enjoy watching any channels beyond that circle?
I watch Spencer's videos, but other than that I try not to take in too much running content because it sends me into the comparison trap
:(
Every time i see that rust colored sweatshirt, i want to know where it's from!
I got it at Target!
@@allie_ostrander thank you!!!
Thanks Allie. How important has Spence been in your ED work?
He's been super helpful, especially because he supported me so much and challenged me to fight the ed, but also because he models such a healthy relationship with food
My husband says Georgie could almost definitely beat that many ants, but it would depend on whether he knew he was being attacked and committed to fighting back.
haha he think they're just all his friends
Have you or will you run a marathon? Does your period ever affect your workouts?
I will most likely run a marathon someday!
SBU! Do you know Jake Triplett? And Ghostrunners podcast?
SPU....I don't know those names, sorry!
Has any footwear company reached out for sponsorship recently?
I'm currently sponsored by NNormal :)
Goth Babe!!!
ED Q: did you/do you struggle with needing to be “moving” all the time (ie going on walks etc instead of just resting and sitting down)?
Yes, that's why I've tried to build some sedentary hobbies like reading and journaling
I want you to know that we'll live if you want to take a vacation from posting! Everyone needs time off; don't worry about us, take care of yourself.
LOL Love the humor, honesty and knowledge sharing you do in your posts.
haha yeah eventually they would just forfeit ;)
related to the 50k q, is there a distance ur most looking forward to running eventually?
also how could you do your boy like that i got my man georgie against a hundred thousand ants 😤😤, with those twirls and foot speed he can at least smush some with his paws and get away and keep repeating that
I am really looking forward to doing both a marathon and a 100 miler someday!
Also I love the faith you have in Georgie...I really hope that all his spinning has prepared him for battle because if so that would be epic.
To the Kindergarteners question, you just give them crayons and a piece of paper 📝. They will be distracted, a win win situation. That way, you “beat” them 😊
this is ingenuity.
In that NCAA steeplechase race with Elle Purrier, did you see that her laces came undone?
No, I had no idea!
Which universities did you consider before choosing Boise?
I also considered University or Oregon and Arkansas
best video yet. But Im an age group runner so maybe that is why
I appreciate that!
Do you talk with Jessie Diggins? Have you thought about doing an ED video together?
I haven't even talked to her, but it would be amazing to do a video together.
You beat Fred Kerley in the 800 meters!
What is your favorite type of cheese? (If you like cheese, if not, state your favorite mode of transportation besides car)
I love goat cheese and blue cheese!
I repeat "victory","Victory","Victory","Victory","Victory".
Every time you say ED I just think of Erectile Dysfunction in my head
Whats your favorite/most fun race you have ever competed in.
my fave might be my most recent USA XC!
❤
Do you have a PO Box?
no, I've thought about getting one, but currently I do not
We NEED to know your favorite coffee you like to brew at home...☕
I've been using Two Roosters lately! Announcement soon....
Question: Did the ant question and the kindergartener question come from the same person? 😂
no haha, two independently creative people
