Have a Corolla Cross Hybrid SE under contract, and choose it over others in subcompact SUV class due to 45 city MPG, 8" front clearance (a must where I live), AWD standard, price compared to RAV4 & renowned Toyota reliability. It was hard to get a CC Hybrid as they are flying off the dealers' lots. Didn't have to pay an extra dealer markup over MRSP though.

I appreciate that you went over things like braking and turning radius! Most reviewers fail to demonstrate these things.
I request that you go more slowly with the camera over the buttons in the car. It was hard to follow what each button is for when you glossed over it too quickly and didn't keep the camera still and didn't zoom in on the buttons.

Nice looking front end. Like all the LED lights. Side view is great. Nice color with the flat black trim and a touch of chrome. Very clean looking rear end. Likie the seat pattern with the blue. Read that GM is removing the Apple Car play from their new EV's. Excellent mileage for an AWD car. Was looking at the Chevy Blazer Hybrid, but I think we will look at this vehicle also. Want to check all the boxes before buying. Thanks for another great review.

I just bought one. Originally I was gonna get a bare bones LE Cross it was in allocation and we had like 2 months to wait. I needed to know what it was like though, all Crosses here are super hard to get ahold of and sell like hot cakes. Called a different dealer and he said they had 2 that I could test drive. Both were XSE hybrids one white and one black. Too future for me at first, push button ignition with no sound, dinging, reverse camera, touch screens the works. I drove it around the block and was sold. Smooth as can be. We get back to the dealer I call the wife to tell her we're buying "this" car and it was sold out from under me. We moved for the white one it sold too. lol. Had the guy check his allocation and most of them were on hold except the XSE with all the bells and whistles. Filled it up for the first time and spent $35 on a tank and put like 400 miles on it in 3 weeks. It's a great city car. The ev mode is super cool too if you go slow in parking garages or need to keep it quiet in the mornings. I highly recommend.

All dealers in NJ are asking 3k or more over list for these.

Maybe when we all buy one in PA then, they will stop this madness!?!?

YES!!!!!! Okay, I have a Hyundai lease with a year left on my 2022 Kona Limited FWD. Love the new 2024 Kona redesign but to get AWD (but no hybrids available), it would run me almost $36,000 MSRP. Also looking at this Corolla Cross Hybrid XSE as well. Our 2nd vehicle is a 2023 Camry XLE AWD (not a hybrid). When I'm about 6 months out from lease end, which will be next summer, I will explore this vehicle (2024 model year) first and hope they don't tell me there's a 10-month wait IF I can even get one in a color of my choice. But for $35,000, it all depends on which dealership can work with me and sadly, dealer add-ons are mostly a rip off and would deter me from leasing from that dealership! Charging extra for Navigation is also a dumb mistake!!!

Here is the thing about the e-CVT system tho: no belt, no clutches. It'll probably last the life of the vehicle with no maintenance but if you're smart you'll swap the oil in it every 60-100k and then you're set for life. That 6 speed?... Not so much.

Are there anymore honest car dealers out there that don't force all those overpriced dealer installed options down your throat?

    • @fernandoherranz4095

Probably not. And if you're a Costco member, their auto program might help you avoid the crazy dealer markups.

Nope! I prefer the eCVT for a couple reasons. 1) Efficiency is max with the eCVT. Max RPM is the most efficient for acceleration, while min RPM is the most efficient for cruising, and eCVT does both. 2) Simplicity. The Hybrid eCVT has no belts, no clutches/bands, and no moving parts besides the Park pawl. It doesn’t even have a Reverse gear (it just spins the main Motor-Generator Unit backwards). Besides the two MGU’s themselves, there is very little inside that could fail. I’ll take that over a traditional automatic any day of the week.

This hybrid transmission is different from a normal CVT though. It uses a planetary gear set with an electric motor operating the sun gear, the engine connected to the planets, and the ring connected to the final drive. Spin the electric motor (sun) one way for low gear, hold it still for direct drive, and spin the motor the opposite way for overdrive. Simple! The motor also doubles as a starter motor and also recharges the hybrid battery as needed when idling in traffic or when stopped. The transmission is actually very simple with only a single planetary gear set, one small motor-generator (as described above) and one large motor-generator that provides most of the electric drive and regenerative braking. No clutches or bands, no belts, solenoids, no actuators… The only thing that moves is the Park pawl! There is also no physical Reverse gear: the big motor-generator is simply spun backwards. It doesn’t get any simpler mechanically.

The ecvt is built for efficiency and reliability same system as in the Prius which has proven to go over 200,000 miles Toyota will not be putting in automatic transmission and for very good reason this system is engineering genius

Great car, except for the eCVT, and the fact that they don't use all of the infotainment screen real estate. And what's the real use of paddle shifts in a CVT transmission?

    • @fernandoherranz4095
      @fernandoherranz4095 11 місяців тому

The shifters have you control the "shifting" when in M mode. I like the shifters when on the highway. Makes for an engaging experience and better fuel economy if you do it right. Like manual shifting, using the paddle shifters sucks in the city. BTW I own a car with the shifters and a CVT. Works great.

Costco has an auto program that helps you avoid the crazy dealer markups. I haven't bought one yet, but am working on it now for one of these CC Hybrids.

Price needs to be 28K + tax for XSE , all options...it is just a hatchback with a Prius Hybrid....this can never approach 40K..All the features have been standard in most Fords 7 years ago...Nissan too..
