Your best asset is your âge. You are Young and the new possibilities are there. I got cancer in 2014 and had to close my book store, my baby, in2018. I am 74 now and still have dreams. But it is very hard….. Best luck to you and you still have projets. Love you. ❤❤❤❤❤
It's a hard job, and sadly, it's one that is disappearing and being taken over by mass-production factories. The amount of frozen half-baked bread I see in stores (they bake it for 20 minutes in-store to finish it) is worrying. The difference between fresh and mass-produced is night and day. Yours looked fantastic.
I'm so sad I won't ever try your baked goods, but I think it's good for you to know what is best for yourself. You did so very well and you have my full support. Health and wellness is more important than just about anything. Don't stop baking, though. But bake for yourself. Know your limits. Know yourself. God bless and I will continue to follow you as long as you're on UA-cam. Now I know why I couldn't find your stall when I looked up the farmers markets in London. I'm still looking forward to seeing London this year.
Burnout is terribly real. I've been off work (teaching) since Nov 2023 & am just starting feel glimmers of normality. 'Take care' is phrase people throw around but it's genuinely the most important thing you can do in life. Hope you feel better soon.
I had a small business with 3 employees. It slowly became a nightmare and I dreaded every day. I knew the stress was taking a toll on my health. Yet I was terrified of it ending. A few things happened that made it impossible to continue. After I closed down everything a few weeks past and I then realized how terrible it all was. Take what you've learned and your next project will be much better without the stress.

Hi Lily, I just wanted to say that I completely understand how you are feeling at the moment. I made the decision 3 months ago to close my microbakery business in favour of working a full-time job. It was a really hard decision to make and I still feel sad about it. Although the business was flourishing and in a period of massive growth, I decided that the stress, cost and uncertainty of owning my food business was just not for me. I'd been offered a job that paid well but would require more responsibility than previous roles and I just couldn't turn it down when I considered how much more free time, sleep and just general happiness I would likely have, even though I did love baking. It's really hard to make these decisions especially if you really love your customers, as a part of you feels like you're letting them down, but the reality is that they will completely understand your reasons and support you 100%. And, although it does hurt to admit it, our customers will find another bread supplier. Like you, I have decided to continue sharing content to my customers as a hobby rather than business venture, and I wish you well in continuing your content creation journey. All the best - Megan x
Miss Lilly, I'm so sad to hear this, but I truly understand. Stress, anxiety, and depression prompted me to leave my career back almost 30 yrs ago and to pivot in a similar manner to a much simpler lifestyle. Success is measured in happiness and fulfillment, not necessarily financial gain. I'm confident you will continue to blossom and grow. You can bet I'll still look forward to watching whatever your life brings you on UA-cam. A thought, you might consider step by step baking videos aimed at us beginner Bakers just learning the basics. Hi from Canada! I have discovered your channel two months ago, as I was also planning on opening my bakery one day. I can feel your saddeness and relief at the same time. But what really impacted me is you showing us that it is ok to back up. Especially, after being invested for 3.5 years, a lot of people would push themselves just not to "give up", but you decided to do what you think is right. Your story is really inspiring and I am sure that I will still use all the advice you gave in your last videos.
It's very impressive what you've created. With having a side hustle bakery myself for less than a year, watching your channel is inspiring. The endless hours put in ultimately took the joy out of baking and lead to burn out. At the end of day, your health and happiness is priority. Always know you'll have the skills and discipline to create and go after anything you want. Cheers to a new chapter!
Dear lily, I've been watching you from the beginning & please know you've done an amazing job. You definitely have to follow your heart & be faithful & true to yourself. At 56 I decided 3 weeks ago to finish in the cleaning business after nearly 38 years, I still love it & I met some wonderful people but physically its to much & I'm also struggling with burnout. I wish you lots of luck in your new ventures & I am staying subscribed & looking forward to following you. Take care 😊
Being unable to be a baker due to health problems it causes is not a “bump”, it’s the end of the tunnel. She’ll need to carve a new career from scratch
As an ex baker I have dropped in on your Utube channel on occasions and often thought to myself, 'this level of work cannot last'. 100% I think your decision to move on from this exhausting, stressful life is the right thing to do. The reality of a bakers life is very different to that of what people think. Wisely you've heeded the warning signs and made the right decision to put yourself first. Unfortunately I didn't and through exhaustion ended up having multiple strokes. Now you need to take some time out for you to fully heal from the very tough experience you've been through. Wishing you good health for the future in whatever you decide to do. You've made the right decision
As someone who has run a bakery for 10 years (just out of it) I know how hard the business is. To attempt to do everything by yourself is massive. I honestly don't believe the vast majority of people could do it. Nobody would believe what an enormously physically demanding business it is. You clearly have huge dedication, stamina and willpower to have made it for as long as you did. I'd say one of the smartest things you've done is to have the strength to realise that it was time to stop. Most people carry on until they are broken. I've seen that many times. You will have learned a lot which you can take to new ventures and you will look back and know for sure that you made the right decision. Good luck, good health and good days ahead. Well done :)
I saw this in passing and listened a little, then I just had to click and comment. Lily I had to do the same thing in 2022 and shut down due to other conflicts, and I cried so hard when I came to the realization that it had to be done. SO I closed with the belief that I would restart when I was ready and it didn't happen at all last year, 2023, but now I am there and am going all- in with everything I've got.. and everything I've learned. All of my things are in storage, so I just needed the new place and I have it now.. so the countdown to reopen will begin soon. That said. I just wanted to give you encouragement to go ahead with your closing because your health does come first! My hand would itch with certain ingredients and cramp up when stirring, but these are things I am overcoming. But health is of the utmost importance. You may be able to determine that one day reopening may be in the works once you get to a certain point, especially if you are able to hold onto your equipment! Also, it's a blessing that you were open as long as you were! Look at the experience you have and the knowledge you have gained on growing your brand. Many don't have that and you will be great at influencing others in your new area of expertise and I hope that we can chat and motivate each other even though I am "across the pond" in the US! I will look for your social media and will let you know it's me I'm so glad I saw this as I love showing support and getting some in return. Lots of love

As an absolute novice baker who got the bug to start baking breads about 15 months ago, i started watching videos on yt for tips and ideas. This video came up as a suggestion to watch just as i was ready to return home from New Zealand at the weekend. I saved to watch for when i got home, and have just watched it. It really saddened me to see how emotional you got about having to close your micro bakery down. you have obviously invested so much of yourself into the business, and all the stresses & strains that come with it have taken there toll. Hello Lily, I am so sorry to hear cause you were my inspiration to start a bakery and watching you was giving me high hopes to do something else. I was always wondering if you didn''t hire someone to help you. Sad to hear but please take care of yourself.
Thanks so much for sharing this very vulnerable video. It resonates so much with me and it has taken me so long to give myself grace from past experiences where things didn't go as planned. In 2020 just before the pandemic, I had launched a food business, went into a commercial space and all. Three weeks later, covid shut down the world and during the following 6 months I was under immense physical and mental stress that triggered health issues which led to a lyme disease diagnosis that was extremely expensive to treat and along with all of that, my 12 year relationship succumbed to all the stress we had both been going through. I started to realize I was completely overwhelmed by the business and I was not financially prepared and couldn't afford employees, but I knew I could no longer do it myself either. I pivoted my business and became a personal chef. Started a whole new life over again, all on my own but with my family by my side providing me the emotional support I needed. The thought of my first business failing used to give me crippling anxiety. I felt so much shame and fear of starting a business again. I felt like a complete failure. But with time, I realized that I learned so much from that experience and it has prepared me for my next venture. I often don't give myself credit for the bravery it took to even launch in the first place. It takes guts to start a business and it might not always go as planned but it will lead you where you are supposed to go no matter what. It's been almost 4 years now and I'm finally ready to take the leap again and I feel way more prepared than the first time around lol. I wish you the best on your new journey and I'm sure with your following and your talent, success will find you.
Congratulations on all of your accomplishments and what you've done with your life. I'm so so sorry that you have to close. I had just found your channel and have gotten so much enjoyment. I wish you success on whatever direction you go. Please take care and remember to breathe......

The micro bakery was just a stepping stone to greater things. Follow your gut, and have tremendous gratitude for the experience. Life is for experiencing different things. Follow your excitements.
Why was it so stressful?
@@nyaruko-do2ok Employees are the best or worst part of a small business. Next, selling expensive products online attracts all types of scammers. I lost $11K in one scam sale.
@@nyaruko-do2ok Because of the feeling that people depend on you, which is why psychopaths do so well as CEOs, because their brains are capable of not caring at all about others AKA emotional disassociation. Bob Iger slept like a baby during the 2023 Writer's Strike.
nope. next project can be another nightmare. who are you to give false hope. r u going to be responsible for it?
I have a wholesale background, generally selling to businesses. The number of times you see the arc that is, new business, new suppliers, new sales outlets... need more employees. And the business dies because employees are RNG. You can get great ones, you can get career-ending ones. Businesses need employee insurance. There are terrible bosses, but there are way more terrible employees.
I've pretty much conquered sourdough and have moved on to gooey maple pecan cinnamon buns that are simply to die for. It's such a shame I'm diabetic and must greatly restrict how much of such treats I eat. You have such a mild, pleasurable manner about you, I'm sure you will do well as a content creator. Take care, my friend. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

Take care 😊
This is just one bump in the road. You're clearly a very talented baker. You will definitely find something new :))
I will look for your social media and will let you know it's me
I'm so glad I saw this as I love showing support and getting some in return. Lots of love
Sad that your bakery had to close, but happy that you're taking care of you self more now. Excited for your new adventures, Lily! ❤❤
From a fellow baker following your channel a while now, ive got great admiration and inspiration from your channel. Youve put your heart and soul into it, i know how tolling it can be on your body and mentally with lack of sleep. Youve been great. Onwards and upwards, youre a lovely person.❤

The best of luck to you Lily! I know how stressful this life is. Your still and will continue to shine!!!

I love to bake as well but as I'm 52 it's hard to stand for hours and hours in a very hot space, I understand you perfectly. Your health must be priority. You can swicth to another job related to bakery and let the hard work to others. Be carefull and good luck!
I just found your channel a couple days ago, and I'm loving all your videos! I'm so sorry to see the micro bakery go, but good for you for doing what you need to.
I'm trying to re-start my small business, and it came to a total halt when I had my child. I thought I wouldn't get back to being able to sell my jams and goodies, but the past few weeks have had some opportunities come, and hubby and I are gearing up for a busy market summer! You've been such an encouragement and so nice to watch your content. Thank you for your honesty, and for sharing your skills!

Admire your transparency through your journey. You got this 🎉 You have an authentic approach & it’s incredibly relatable. I personally have gone through burnout several times throughout my life, I found it to be the biggest blessing as it gave me the opportunity to take that well needed pause to reflect & reclalervrate. I decided to pivot 20yrs into my dedication to the hospitality industry into launching my own health & wellness platform. Best decision I’ve made this far. Excited to see the next chapters ahead for you ❤

The lovely thing is you come across as a very driven & determined person, and i’m sure that whatever direction you take next will be successful. Recharge you batteries, health & happiness matter most. will now subscribe in the hope of seeing some home bakes that i can hopefully replicate 😊 and best wishes on wherever your journey takes you

Hello Lily, I am so sorry to hear cause you were my inspiration to start a bakery and watching you was giving me high hopes to do something else. I was always wondering if you didn''t hire someone to help you. Sad to hear but please take care of yourself.
I really enjoyed my last 4 morning buns from the market. Very, very sad to hear you go! Good luck in the future!

Lily, I've only just learned of you and your micro-bakery Lily's Loaf, know that you are on the next chapter of an amazing adventure. It's important to take time to take care of yourself and then, when ready, share your talent with the world via your UA-cam Channel. Came across your channel.....I am going to attempt this out of my home using a cottage law thingy in my state......I had a stroke and had to retire........this seems like something I would enjoy as long as it doesn't get out of hand......keep it small and simple is going to be my goal. A shame you had to step back but always remember to focus on what you learned.....
Well, I just found you for the first time. Well done, acknowledging that one stage in your life has ended and being flexible enough to bend with the change. You will be stronger for it. One day you will look back and realize this was a mere stepping stone preparing you for the launch into the rest of your life.
I feel this video. I also have a small business i tried building. It's technology, so I'm not shutting it down. But going to stop putting all my energy into it. Positive vibes your way. Good luck!
