Very good explanation. I would mention that some systems don’t use a fan delay board. If the blower motor is an X13, the motor can be programmed to provide an ON and OFF delay therefore eliminating the need for the board.

OL is open loop which means it's more then the meter can measure, still could be a "high reading" but it generally means open connection especially for continuity. Some contacts can show open thru meter but when any higher current goes thru like a test light it may partially or fully close under a load. In those situations it's best to measure across contact for voltage drop while under load, there should be none with a good contact. Great breakdown as always.

When you are testing the relay to see if it opens and closes. Do you check it when its getting voltage in order to see if it open or closes. I know when you check for resistance you are suppose to have the power off.

Just curious, is there a wiring schematic of the circuit board? U1 looks like it could be a 555 timer. The four diode in a row is the AC to DC rectifier and the caps and resistors set up the timing trigger delay. The 555 timer was the first IC I played with when I was in Tech school and college about 45 to 50 years ago. There was a very good book published about them and they are still used a lot for stuff like this. No use using a CPU when you can keep it simple and cheap.

My board started blowing fuses, the repairman took all the 24 volt wires that went to the thermostate off of the board and it still blew the fuse. He then replaced the board and it not longer blew the fuse. He said the board had gone bad, nothing looked burnt, what on the board could have gone to ground to cause the fuse to blow?????? thanks

I’m not sure if I have a delay board, but last time service person came, they adjusted such that there was a much longer delay than 7s before fan came on. I think it was set my internal temperature somehow. It seems the delay is too long, the furnace overheats and shuts off even before the fan starts. Any suggestions on what I should look for to adjust back to better operation? My workaround currently is just to leave the fan set to on rather than auto. Thanks.

Low voltage short, one of the low voltage wires are either touching metal, touching each other, or you could have a bad contactor at your condenser. Could possibly be the thermostat as well if something is bad inside it. Hope that helps 👍

I always have to replace them frequently. I also have Goodman and carrier which never give me any trouble. These Haier control boards don't have a fuse built in them. These are very basic control boards. They have 6 wires connected to them. Hi, I have the same control board in my central climatisation and heating unit. I have an issue that seem to come back at each 4-5 years or so. The issue only happen on climatisation mode. Once the thermostat reach the desired temperature, the fan stop correctly about 60 sec later ( wich is normal) but the outside compressor never stop, even if I put the thermostat to off. I have to close the breaker in my electricity panel to make it stop. Once I reopen the breaker, the unit can work properly for 24-48 hours before doing the same problem. The relay in the outside compressor is new and is working ok. A tech came to check and the only thing he found to solve the problem is to change the Fan board. After that, all worked ok for about 4 years then the same problem happened again. So I changed the board again. Now, we are about 4-5 yr later and the same problem is there again. Does anyone knows what in this board can cause this issue at each 4 or 5 years or so???

The four diodes between the power resistor and gumdrop capacitor near the R and C terminals are formed into a discrete diode full bridge rectifier. From their the chip and the relay control side use this 24v DC rail to draw their power. This also enables the use of the simple to drive transistor (at the inboard corner of the relay) to switch the relay coil by a signal from the chip.

So if my basic Emerson control board on the Rheem 5 ton unit has no onboard relays, and does have an X13 motor, what would cause the fan to continue running even after the call for air stops? I know it's supposed to run 45 seconds or so to clear the ducts but it just keeps running thus making the house seem more humid after a bit. I can remove the G and R from the thermostat itself and it keeps running until I turn the breaker off. Old board is part number 47-102077-03 and the new, smaller, version is 47-100436-07.
