not just the end of the gasoline powered cars, but also the end of the *lightweight* gasoline-powered cars. Lotus just announced the end to their Elise/Exige series, and even the Emira is the last gasoline "light-ish" weight sports cars. Maybe not a super limited series GTA/GTAm, but this led me to acquiring an Alfa Romeo 4C.
I've put 30K on my Giulia Ti Sport and its been the best car I've ever owned, far more fun and reliable than my last 3 german cars. Also some of the best sport seats at any price.
New car looks very cool (and crazy powerful). But I just can’t get over the weigh figures for the old cars. I know it’s down to modern safety systems etc in the newer car. But I just keep coming back to the Lotus approach of “add lightness”. When you drive a lightweight car, it’s an eye opener! 😎
Alfa has tried. The recently withdrawn 4C was such a car under 1 ton with all the necessary safety equipment on it to be road legal in the 2010s. OK it isn't your primary car nor the Giulia Sprint GTA was at that time. But of course the cars are heavier than they were in the 60s to 80s, but lighter than they were 10-15 years ago. If we look at the V12 Lambos for example. In 1973 when the first production Countach hit the customer it was 1080 kgs which became 1490 kg by the end of the 80s in its last iteration. Another decade later the Murciélago was presented with 1820 kg on the scale (which was the weight of the heaviest version of the W126 Mercedes S-Class back in the 80s). Then one another decade later they were able to scrub a whoppy 200 kgs from it for the Aventador still keeping the 4WD system and all the doodads it has to carry. So we are back on track with weight reduction but we never get back to the level where the cars were at the turn of the 60s and 70s. All the safety and comfort equipment means weight and you can't offer cars without them let it be the reason legislative or driven by the customers' requirements.
As great as the new Giulia GTA and Quadrifoglio are, those who can't afford these can still enjoy the base Giulia with the 280HP 4-cylinder motor. It has amazing straight line performance while sharing the platform and suspension. Nothing in the category can match it for driving pleasure. And, as a bonus, it can offer incredible fuel mileage, at decent speed, on long trips - 18-19 km/l (42 mpg +). Get one while you can, indeed.
Nice detail on the background. Actually the history is far more interesting to me than the new car. But I didn’t hear mention of how much the GTA race car weighed after they took all the weight out?
I don't think the Alfa Tipo 33 had only limited success as it won the 1975 World Sportscar Championship with total dominance winning 7 of the 8 races (not counting the Daytona race as with exception of Porsche no significant team has attended). And its last iteration in 1977 won all 8 races, but it's true in that year the series had a lower reputation and because of the absence of other car manufacturers and the loss of overseas events in 1978 it became European Sportscar Championship which finally came to an end by the end of the year. But even in its early form it won the 2-litre category finishing on 3rd position overall in the championship behind the 7-litre Ford GT and the 3-litre Porsche 907/908. In 1971 it was 2nd behind Porsche with the newly developed 3-litre engine.
Outstanding work DTS (dare I say Hyphen? :D)! The only "complaint" I have is the microphone quality, which could be improved. Keep pushing the limits and you will outclass #jasoncammisa in no time! 😉
Good informational video, but the narrator talks in detail about the road and race GTA 1600 cars. Whereas the white old Giulia in the video is the later GTAM, the 2 litre engined race only car with mechanical fuel injection, narrow angle "testa stretta" head, of which there was no street homologation car.
The tipo 33 tt12 had "limited success"? It dominated world sports car racing in the 70s with two world championships. In 1977 it won the championship by winning every single race.
You don’t need all of what Alfaholics have done...great as much as their car is..many reckon it’s a bit of a “Frankenstein” car now. You could get a very good early 70’s car (with the 4 headlights and retro fit the wider wings (as Autodelta went along with steel panels during this time..although the 1300 Step Nose remained aluminium panelled with the wider arches and lovely 13 inch rims) Just a thought..so if you are still dreaming...you could make it a reality...I have... I got a blank canvas Alfa 105 from South Africa...Step Nose conversion..aluminium front wings and front valance. It’s got a 1750 in it which many of the purists actually prefer to a 2.0 litre! I would say even with the time and effort put into it..it’s probably worth circa £30-35k...not bad considering Alfaholics offering at circa £250k! ALSO..FOR THE RECORD...I AM..NOT...SLATING Alfaholics...just stating you DO NOT need to spend that amount of money to get a VERY GOOD running, usable classic that to be honest..with today’s engineering (mine) is probably as good as an original 105 GTA..JUST...

But even in its early form it won the 2-litre category finishing on 3rd position overall in the championship behind the 7-litre Ford GT and the 3-litre Porsche 907/908. In 1971 it was 2nd behind Porsche with the newly developed 3-litre engine.
This is very special ....
Great video!
they shouldnt have cancelled the new 8C and GTV
Outstanding work DTS (dare I say Hyphen? :D)! The only "complaint" I have is the microphone quality, which could be improved. Keep pushing the limits and you will outclass #jasoncammisa in no time! 😉
Good informational video, but the narrator talks in detail about the road and race GTA 1600 cars. Whereas the white old Giulia in the video is the later GTAM, the 2 litre engined race only car with mechanical fuel injection, narrow angle "testa stretta" head, of which there was no street homologation car.
One day, I’ll own an Alfa Romeo Giulia.
Thanks Hyphen!
What is the point of a GTA/GTAm if it is not a racing car?
Damn.. one good looking car
Is Alpha actually making the new guilia GTAm? I thought that dev was cancelled...
They will deliver them this year but cost the double of the basic Quadrifoglio model.
GTA and GTAm will be produced. But planned Giulia coupe and new 8c are postponed
Where is Jason?
The tipo 33 tt12 had "limited success"? It dominated world sports car racing in the 70s with two world championships. In 1977 it won the championship by winning every single race.
FORZA Alfa Romeo !
thank youuu😍😍
Alfa'holics GTA is one of the best-looking cars and said to be one of the best handling cars out there!
Shame about the price :(
You don’t need all of what Alfaholics have done...great as much as their car is..many reckon it’s a bit of a “Frankenstein” car now. You could get a very good early 70’s car (with the 4 headlights and retro fit the wider wings (as Autodelta went along with steel panels during this time..although the 1300 Step Nose remained aluminium panelled with the wider arches and lovely 13 inch rims)
Just a thought..so if you are still dreaming...you could make it a reality...I have...
Classy, dignified, well principled - in other words; a complete opposite of Jason Cammisa 😆
Where’s Jason?
❤ Alfa Romeo 🇮🇹 👍 🍀
Yeah and about 30 years i want to see a video, where this GTA/M dominated the touring car championship for 10 years.
FINALLY!
This is basically the end game for car enthusiasts, only 15 years left
Nah, we will find a niche in the electric car age for us enthusiasts...will take some doing and may be a different experience but only time will tell
@@triaxe-mmb you can't be a car enthusiast without an ICE. Electric cars aren't really cars, they're appliances.
@@victoralley708 yes like a refrigerator. EVs will never dominate motorsports because no matter what they do on the battery technology it will still be a fraction in energy density and will always be heavy.
@@victoralley708 most cars are appliances...I guarantee there will be true performance vehicles out there with electric power trains in next 10 yrs. I love ICE performance vehicles but new ICE vehicle are gonna be extinct in the next 2 decades or so....as the tech behind electric gets better, they will prove performance:weight relationship
I was deeply in love with my Alfa 159 SW. But the reliability... it cost me more than 10000€ in repairs and maintenance in just 5 years. I have broken down 4 times and the car was in repair for a total of about 3 months. This was just too much for me for a daily driver.
I want an Alfa like the BMW 1M. Two door and for drivers that would be a car a real Alfa Romeo gta. Someone tell Alfa to listen to its fans.
Few acronyms are as evocative in motoring as G T A
Oo v oO
Good, but I dont understand why you dint talk about the original GTAM that you show in the film. GTA and GTAM are different
Still automatic, turbo, and quite literally almost twice as heavy as the original.
Man I miss simple, light fun cars.
italy gets manuals
I have an 1969 1750 spider that was parked for 23 years until one day I saw it under a tarp , I bought it for 2500.00 dollars . A month later the guys wanted to buy it back after they found out what they are worth now, I said no , Im keeping it.
