Just did the alternator on 91 Honda Civic hatchback base 1.5 like this. This is the easiest way to do it without taking car apart Thanks 👍 had to do it on side of road needed to lift it a little from driver side to remove alternator but came out fairly easy.
Hey man. Stopped to say thanks for this. Showing how to get that out without pulling the CV/Master cylinder is a lifesaver. You are appreciated, Sir! Oh and of course liked and subscribed.
Thanks for the video ! Just did this but had my own issue haha . Car is lowered on coilovers so the axel sits up higher ! Just drop the lower suspension bolt and it gives you all the room you need as in the video !
I would recommend buying the service manual, huge help when on taking any DIY maintenance project. As for bad terminals i just used new cables with new terminals
It doesnt REQUIRE removing the master OR dropping the axle. But either of those are faster. At least on my regular civic sedan i think it was from this year. I fucked around for an hour with a buddy and finally got it off, (i did NOT have the racheting box ends), that was to remove and replace. Which didnt fix the problem. Took it back to the place i got it, a 'guy who sold cars' and his mechanic had another one swapped out in like seriously 10 minutes with a front end lift and dropping the axle. It seemed pretty personal.
Always glad to help, keep the a/c! I actually removed mine from the crx I have, i regret it but I do have all the pieces for it. I’m gonna make a video eventually of putting things back together with the a/c. I used to remove it from every Honda I would own but now I see how important it is 😂 I plan on retaining it even if I do a b series or any other type of swap in any of the cars
@@Tycrx89 That would be terrific. When I got mine, the guy said all of the refrigerant leaked out, and it's old R-22, so seemed like it will be a pain in the ass to get it working again. But I have all of the (leaky?) parts so can put it back together. Looking forward to your videos!
@@hmbpnz most of the time when you acquire this cars the a/c system is never intact or working. Deff going to be interesting getting mine going again but we’ll worth it. I actually have plenty of the old R-12 refrigerant but going to convert to the r-13 as well
Welcome to the family! The Honda Pilot is great nice buy 👌as for the swap No Unfort it’s not a k series swap, those motors came in certain Acura/Hondas from the early to mid 2000s. This is the stock motor that the car came with from factory known as sohc D-series engine otherwise known as the d16a6 from 1988-1991 This motor specially came in the Si model civic/crx as well as the RT4WD wagon and EX sedan. I hope this helps, UA-cam would be the best place to start if you want to learn about certain Hondas And the makes and models along with different motors 👍
I replaced my alternator on my 1991 CRX today with 338,000 miles , original one on it... I thought it was the connector cause it worked if i pushed on it. I purchased a replacement connector on EBAY only to find out it wouldnt push in and click with a new alternator and the old one too. According to ebay seller it was suppose to work but one of the holes was too small..I was going to try to pound it in but I didnt want to break it.. Turns out I am going to have to rewire the old connector. Beware of certain items on EBAY. They look close to OEM, but dont always work.......I owned my CRX almost 18 years...really served me well . Doubt if I'll ever find anything today that will go that long... I do have the orig. clutch and release bearing, the clutch if fine, but the release bearing is making noise........
@@Tycrx89 I'm having that issue right now. I tried the trick of unbolting the negative terminal to see if it turns off but it kept running. I did notice it sounded like the engine had more power when I removed the negative terminal .
@@Tycrx89 replaced and fixed the issue🤗 video helped too. Only difference was the I had to put the top bolt on first a couple of threads then the bottom bolt to align it perfect.
Man, your bolt came out so easy, tried multiple times to bang that thing out, about to buy a air hammer to give that a try, not even blaster is helping Ugh
I’ve been there, sometimes even heat doesn’t help. I got lucky getting this car from South Carolina. Literally not rust on this thing. Bolts have been very forgiving, good luck!
Yep air hammer worked... got the extra long bit, needed to be even longer, I had to bang out the bit next, but I managed.... the new one went in like butter... maybe whomever installed this one had the wrong size? 🤔
Oof. What should I do if that 10mm power connection on the top of the old alternator is spinning with the nut when I try to break it loose, because the last guy wrenched it down like crazy?
Best video i’ve seen, good angles, good explanation, covers every step!
Thank you 👍

Awesome, so glad it worked out and thank you I appreciate it 💪🏼
Very well done! Thanks for taking the time to point out all the fitment issues one may come accross.
You’re very welcome
This was very helpful, thank you. One thing, though: make sure to press back the metal bushing in that pivot bracket, or the new alt will not go in.
You’re welcome and Agreed!
Been trying to get the alternator out of my 91 civic wagon for 2 weeks off and on 😂. I’m going to try this method now, thank you.
It should work out, good luck!

When there’s a will there’s a way! Happy to help😁
Thanks for the great video! Tensioning the belt, its easy to go way too tight. Keep up the good work
Thank you I’m happy to help, appreciate the kind words :D
1:32 i have a bone stock civic, what did you use to upgrade the battery terminals? i need so much guidance to restore mine

Yes, driving these cars in the summer as I get older makes me regret ripping out the a/c systems. Thankfully I have everything to put it back.

Is that a k swap I just bought my first Honda from the dealership this year it’s a Honda Pilot touring but it’s a start I want to learn

I agree sometimes they’re hit or miss. Keep the old school Hondas alive 🤙
By any chance was your battery light indicator on,on your cluster when you turned your car off?
Battery light was not on, but I found a drain coming from the alternator internally.

Yikes sorry I didn’t see this. Is it possible to get maybe a small needle nose or something underneath the nut to hold it from spinning?
@@Tycrx89 i ended up getting it sorted. i can't remember exactly what i did, but it was something to that effect. mostly, i remember it was not fun.
Thanks 👍
You’re welcome!
I remember I replaced alternator on my 91 hf, I remember turning it a certain way and it came right out from the bottom, easy peasy
Very possibly since the HF has a smaller intake manifold
On EE8 /EF8, the alternator won’t pass.
You need to put off the wheel shaft.
Yikes! Not fun!
Good video
Thank you!

It’s nothing but joy for me🤩
