"Liminality" is part of the concept album / song collection I playfully call: "The Gemini Trilogy of Yearning, Revelation and Action". The music on this EP was written largely between 03/2020 - 03/2022 alongside the two other parts of the concept album / song collection. They are intertwined and together construct the whole picture of the feelings and atmosphere I wanted to convey with my first fingerstyle work.
This is a one-man-production by a guitar enthusiast and fingerstyle guitar beginner.
I’d say nature and life as well as my love for the pure sounds of the acoustic guitars woods and steel are my biggest inspiration when writing. During the time of writing this EP I was also heavily influenced by my deep connection with the music of R.D. King and had some lessons with him. His poetic music expresses what I cannot put into words and I cannot recommend his music strongly enough.

That’s great to hear. I really enjoy it when that happens. It’s like an organic and gradual learning curve. Most times I don’t realize it happening until later down the road.

My goodness, yes. Me too. Good to meet a fellow R.D. King fan.That’s actually happened with for me with all his albums. Couldn’t agree more, he is a true artist, one of a kind. When I hear his playing it’s unmistakably him. Can’t say that for most musicians. It’s almost like becoming as acquainted with your guitar and music itself as most people are with their voices
@@stuartstovall2849 You said it. He has honed his unmistakable voice on the guitar and it is on another level of skill, too. The way he writes and how his stories unfold is absolutely fascinating. It's funny, how it only gets better the more you listen to it. When I first found his music (The Lightness of Being) it was more like an abstract painting, that was beyond my understanding. I think my connection to his music would not have thrived as much through casual listening. I remember I had to really sit down like when reading a non-fiction book and "work" on it. But I wanted to, because I found something in it that I could not yet identify. Which is probably also a factor for why it takes him a while to attract more followers. His compositions are complex, but once it clicks you are in for a profound, emotional and rewarding journey, I feel.
Couldn’t have said it better. First song of his I heard was Leap of Faith in his video released on Candyrat (now on his Summerlast EP). I thought, ok, really cool and atmospheric. But thought I’d forget about it, until it popped up a couple more times from autoplay, then it hit me like a train and I had to listen on repeat. Such a journey, the pictures painted and the twists and the subtleties are more than I could appreciate on first listen. Snowballed from there
Absolutely. “Acquired taste” has a somewhat negative connotation to it, but that was it for me, basically. My mother told me, she liked the covers I made, but Sanctuary by R.D. didn’t really speak to her. And, weirdly, I know exactly what she meant, because I’ve been there. Until I wasn’t anymore :)
To me, he is one of the most overlooked guitar masters I know. I love the complexity and profundity of his compositions and find it baffling to see that he hasn’t taken off yet, because what he delivers is pure dedication to the instrument. Greatest respects paid.
