I would say Dodge doesn’t compromise except when they do a captive import, like the Hornet, or the Mitsubishi Galant Lambda they slapped a Challenger badge on. Still I hope this thing comes to market and leads the future Dodge line up.
I really like how Dodge is trying to follow current EV trends yet keeping their own brand heritage in solid. EV-based sound may not satisfy some old-school fans, but at least they're showing an effort..I like it.
That star emblem on the front of the Charger is the Dodge badge from 1962 - 1968. Dodge is keeping with history and Nostolgia. And i respect the shit out of that!
Love it. I am totally with you on the rear wheel to trunk part looking a tiny bit to bulky. Personally I also miss in many cars compared to the 70s the lightness by some more clearance under the car. The trim parts seemingly suck it too strong onto the ground in my opinion

I heard about a 440 CID v8 2 stroke DFI prototype Dodge was working on. that would be a sick option. this electric thing kinda sounds 2 stroke'ish as an electric motor is a virtual rotary magnetic 2 cycle engine whence that why they beat all this overcomplex overrated 4 stroke crap which i hate in just about anything. They call this car a banshee and the only true banshee is yamaha 350cc twin 2 stroke quad which pushed way more power per CID than this 4 joke 392 hemi ever could! A turbo banshee can do about 140'is HP and scaled with DFI and exhaust power valves this would be something.

As I already said together with the Taycan this Charger is the most attractive EV, with the Celestiq right behind. The Taycan looks uniquely like a Porsche, the Dodge looks like a true muscle car and the Celestiq has heavenly proportions and lines. In my experience people respond extremely well to EVs that invoke traditional shapes, which is understandable, because it makes the cars distinctive and unique compared to other EVs, which are aero-bubbles. The only thing I find a bit odd are the proportions of the wheels here on the charger, they look too small in my eyes
Apparently the sound is created by airflow through pipes that's syncs with the throttle and gear changes. (Yes it has a multi speed transmission). And you can actually feel the airflow coming out of the back that spans the width of the car in the middle of the tail lights. Edit: The "exhaust" actually comes out of the bottom. My original source for my information made it sound like it comes out of the middle of the tail lights. Edit: Apparently the exhaust comes out of the bottom. My first source made it seem as if it came through the tail lights but that is in fact wrong.
Apparently as in this has been said by Dodge? I assumed it was a series of chambers that reverberate the sounds an 800V electric motor naturally makes. I didn't see air moving the fog at the back of the charger during the unveiling. Really would like to know where you got how or if the sound is artificially augmented on a patent pending design. I love how they combined aerodynamics with retro design by designing the bulky front with an integrated wing. I hope other car brands come up with these great retro designs like Bmw for example.
i would lift the rear and front bumper to make it look more slick and more like the 70s charger, just make the bumper thiner and the sideskirt can be deleted or tapered towars the center of the car, and the trunk is too short, its 2022, at this point with the size of a 70s Charger you could have all the modern tech and safety in the original body
I'm super into it. The "it's not a v8" backlash is so bizarre to me. Obviously it's not that, it's not supposed to, the future won't be that way either but dodge putting real effort into making a muscle ev with serious muscle roots and design in mind is so exciting!
Reminds me of the Challenger mixed with 2nd gen Charger & the Charger concept frm late 90s/early 00s. I love it. I might pull the trigger on a 66 charger (my fav era 66/7) but this in a few years could be my first EV purxhase.
I'm honestly considering buying one of the new 1970 Dodge charger carbon fiber bodies, and tossing it onto an EV platform. Could even take the majority of current charger interior and place that in with some fab work.

Realistically there's a good chance someone will modify those new challenger bodies that cost around 8k for EV use. That would work just fine for me if I have to go the ev route.

10:25 I've heard that being referred to as the "twin diamond" - the the second sideway diamond completed with the line from the rear bumper to the two dents on the door. That being missing as well as the excessive greenhouse bulb are the only problems I have. The headlight design made me giddy, maintaining the gaping maw of the '68 Charger by turning the chrome piece into the light source *and* front aero. Simply genius.
I love it. And yes the rear is a bit bulky, I would also wish for more of this flat trunk protion. But that's what I've been waiting for to see with modern muscle cars. Current ones are bulky, narrow and very high. When muscle cars in the 70s were wide and low. We finally get that feeling back with this design. I'm all for it.

Oh man, now that is how you update a classic. I love that 60's front grille that isn't a front grille, it's a wing. And that logo isn't new. My dad's old Dodge Dart used to have that right in the center of each hubcap. That is a classic Dodge logo.
I've always loved the boxy look of older cars. I have no loyalty to any brand or manufacturer. I just like cars. But I will say that I've loved the look of the modern Challenger over the looks of the Camaro and Mustang. I've always wondered why they made the Charger into a family 4 door and never made a 2 door version. This concept looks amazing! I have to admit, when you moved that back window area forward. Very subtle, but it looks better having that rear window a bit smaller and a bit more length on the trunk lid area. Very cool looking car as is though.
I so agree with you on the back end of the car, shortening it to make it sporty looking like the 69 or even the newer chargers. Only thing that kills me about it but it's really nice hopefully I could get the next gen of it when they perfect it.

Great review! Dodge did a phenomenal job on the design of this EV Charger. Other EVs out there like the Teslas look as if the designers got to a certain point and just stopped. The Tesla looks to me like it is unfinished. The front and rear of the cars look like blank canvases. There literally is nothing there accept underwhelming lights and a logo. It is like painting a portrait with out a face. Dodge is going to change the the way other companies design EVs going forward. This car has a finished polished complete look and SOUND!

I think it’s funny reading comments on UA-cam and TikTok. All the children on tiktok absolutely hate the new charger Daytona. They basically hate it because someone else does. And the comments on here are a lot more positive. I think it’s a really cool car and I’m excited to see what the dodge EV revolution will bring.
Two thing that they could do to improve the design would be to lower the roofline a bit and make the back lid longer, similar to the OG Charger looooooooooooooooooong tail

As an owner of a 66 charger project, I really do see quite a bit of resemblance from the 2 doors, the old Dodge Division logo, and the arch/hump by the C pillars, the front and back end light shape . I like it, I'm just not a fan of electric car or the noise it makes. Edit : And that it's also supposed to be a hatchback style rear

I personally like the low rider look it has. The bubblyness is necessary because its actually a hatchback
It has to do with better Aerodynamics. But the older models do look sexier.
Plus the batteries take up the space so it has to be lower for better center of gravity for handling

Great review! Dodge did a phenomenal job on the design of this EV Charger. Other EVs out there like the Teslas look as if the designers got to a certain point and just stopped. The Tesla looks to me like it is unfinished. The front and rear of the cars look like blank canvases. There literally is nothing there accept underwhelming lights and a logo. It is like painting a portrait with out a face. Dodge is going to change the the way other companies design EVs going forward. This car has a finished polished complete look and SOUND!
I'm just SO happy they returned to the original 2-door design. I love ALL Chargers, but I just can't get over the fact they made it a sedan.
Yeah definitely took inspiration from the ‘66 charger, 4 bucket seats and the extra long roofline/ greenhouse are a dead giveaway.
The only issue I have is the "exhaust note" everything else, I love.

Your rendering w/the shorter back window is exactly what I was envisioning when I saw this concept/prototype. As it sits now, the back of the roof is too bulbous. Your design fixed it.👍🏻

I think it’s funny reading comments on UA-cam and TikTok. All the children on tiktok absolutely hate the new charger Daytona. They basically hate it because someone else does. And the comments on here are a lot more positive. I think it’s a really cool car and I’m excited to see what the dodge EV revolution will bring.
I've always loved muscle cars and owning an EV made me feel like I was missing something but this is out of a dream its Love at first site.
Two thing that they could do to improve the design would be to lower the roofline a bit and make the back lid longer, similar to the OG Charger looooooooooooooooooong tail

Hey! Move that roof section back and give us an idea of what a 2 door magnum kind of wagon would look like! I think they could sell a million of these just from offering a sport version with the roof forward and moved back.
As an owner of a 66 charger project, I really do see quite a bit of resemblance from the 2 doors, the old Dodge Division logo, and the arch/hump by the C pillars, the front and back end light shape .
I like it, I'm just not a fan of electric car or the noise it makes.
