Xu Hui plays as Ma Lin did. Some shots he takes with the reverse side of his rubber and others he blocks back with his forehand like pen holders of old. Ma Lin did that because he was transitioning to that style.

That was just his style. I play both tbh and rpb as well. I block and push with tbh when close and I use rpb to loop chop and drive and countertopspin from farther away.
Tbh and rpb both have their advantages and weaknessess.
