6:19 It's amazing to see how far away Kim stands to take the serve. You need to have some serious confidence in your reflexes and speed to act like serving long and fast down the line doesn't exist. It almost looks like he's taunting LGL to serve there.
Both are great players. I am a penholder too, but I play shakehand also. Same as my style, hitter style... using BH punch and ball placement, both penhold and shakehand. Long live penhold (Cpen & Jpen)!
The last great jpen WTTC World Singles Champion, 1979. Since then, they didn't even come close. If I am correct, none of them got to the final. That is at least 21 World Championships without a jpen finalist. Chinese produced a Wang Hao who won 2009 but lost twice in 2011 and 2013 to an over-archiver. Ma Lin lost 2 finals against Wang Liqin. Xu Xin created a lot of thunder but without rain.
I use the Reverse Penhold grip (RVP), in my opinion the BEST version of the Penhold style like Wang Hao, and I got the backhand of my dreams after YEARS of suffering through Western grips including the awful 'Danny Seemiller grip'. Even then, on the backhand I alter my fingers on the blade in a more curled half tucked in fingers against the blade instead of splayed out across for less miss hits on fingers. Robert at 67.
Asiandrum, even with the blur quality of the video, the content and your footnotes are great! And yes, Kim's footwork and BH smash are amazing. Before I started playing TT seriously about a 13 months ago, I used to think the Chinese beats everyone easily. Certainly not true here, LGL had to give it his all to beat Kim.
Nice Ride in fact after changing 38 mm ball to 40mm balk, LGL can hardly beat Kim, LGL as a traditional fast attack style player suffer a lot from large ball and new rules on serve afterwards, without rally it's too difficult to compete, Kim may be the best Jpen player yet his luck is not so good, miss quite some world championship finals
Liu in his prime was fucking monster, especialy his strategy. most problem when you play against Liu is you cant open your game. Liu gonna attack you first then all you can do is defend his forehand smash. Kong and JO Waldner were only both player to make Liu like a kid haha
Not sure about who probably was to be favoured (or hurt) by the change of rules nor if that was intended. But if(!) it was to hurt _CHINA,_ you can only tickle them. Because they adjust precisely to anything, so when it comes to Olympics or WCC they are prepared. :)
You hit on the nail, like Lin YJ and Harimoto, seems they just banana everything, and just want to get the point, leaves us audience hanging there, we want high level counter attacks back-forth. I guess badminton still popular in some countries because you can watch longer rally.
Did LGL use RPB at 10:25 and 10:36?
Yes, indeed, LGL and his coach Cai are the ones who invented RPB.
Old J-pener here, I watch this a couple of times a year just to see Kim's footwork, amazing.

Ma Lin and Ryu Seungmin took the same position

Kim's BH is dangerous!
In 2000, Kim Taek-Soo 29 ~ 30 year old and Liu was about 24 ~ 25
Liu is fast and Kim is power.

Way to go!
I really like Jpen players like KTS, KY and RSM I was a natural Jpen player but my coach forced me to Cpen. unfortunately.
KTS's backhand is way more powerful than LGL's weak backhand

I love KTS backhand
10:38推挡直接改直板横打,老金直接蒙了。

Monster indeed, TMD the young LGL, the serve, the look-u-in-the-eyes, and the FH fast a attack with short pips
If ITTF didn’t change rules against China, PingPong would be much more enjoyable to watch today.
New rules weren't imposed to hurt China, far from it.

can someone explain how the older rules works? there's a lot of points and looks like more than 2 serves for each player
Yes in the old days, 21 point game, 5 serve each side, and T 20:20 it is a deuce, need 2 points difference win after deuce.
As a shakehand player, I finally learned forehand loop drive with J-Pen after more then 10 years with my 6th J-Pen rocket.
Congrats for achieving this. Thank you for sharing
thank you for your video, hope your channel will be more popular
Liu's old short pips is so powerful.
Tsp original spinpips that already banned by ITTF
Kim better just quikly(right rite or no?)
Kim was 29 year old at that time. Not 33.
LGL was still playing in 2000 I though he was from the 80s
*RPB >>>>> Backhand Punch*
JPen ?? why not KPen ??
atek sudianto Because Japanese invented it, not Korean. Kim is a good Jpen player, but that doesn’t mean he invented Jpen
LGL has no BH?
I didn't see LGL hit one single RPB...!
He is nervous
Maybe he not yet glued rubber for rpb.. rpb not yet exist during this game
@@mhsametd I think it did exist here.
10:20 he did. More like a concept at that time.
@@asiandrum which blade lin guinyen used?
Love those penhold players
0:52 thats not an edge ball
时间过的好快,刘国梁变小胖,金欧巴变金秃,就连球都变大了。
以前的卓球比較好看,現在都在擰球,前三板就沒了

Kim's serves will be counted as illegal at this moment... lol
Same with LGL's, and all the players back then.
why illegal?
Because it's hidden with the non-serving hand. That was the norm back then.
so now every non-serving hand must not block the service?
@@empireentertainmentevents1353 yup, the opponent needs to be able to see the racket contacting the ball
