- In this lesson series, Vic Firth artist and Education Team member Dr. John Wooton breaks down the 40 Essential Rudiments in easy to understand concepts. In this video, John talks about the need for having a relaxed approach to the drum and breaks down the four basic strokes - or, the REAL rudiments!
Visit www.vicfirth.com for exercises play-along tracks for each of the rudiments! Also, check out John's website at www.johnwooton.com.
This is a perfect demonstration. All students must watch this video many times….
Wooton was my uncles college instructor, and I looked him up and found this.
I ordered your book and DVD today. I could never play inverted flam taps. The way you broke it down on each hand (and emphasized proper technique) really made a difference.
Stu, it is a combination. You are basically squeezing the stick slightly so that it does not rebound and that puts you in position to play a ghost note. But use as little pressure as you have to.
Thanks Doc and Vic Firth. Using these videos with my students!
Man, I wish that my old drum teacher from 26 YEARS AGO would reach back out to me via Facebook cuz he mastered and was phenomenal at all of this stuff.
Went to the music store to buy strings for my guitar and got out with a set of sticks and a Vic Firth pad6 lol... I'm not sure what happened, I must've blacked out XD
did you stick w drums?
@@michaelhoman7748 oh I'm not a drummer by any means, mate. But I do enjoy experimenting with different musical instruments so I got them. I've since been banging with the sticks on anything and everything. I'm hoping to buy a drum set someday soon but it's not at the top of my list at the moment. Are you a drummer?
I could spend all day with this
this helped me a little ill try it out later
Thanks Dr.!
You can see how much more tension the traditional left hand grip puts in your body especially with a drum that height.
Thanks, this video tell me how much time that I wasted. Nobody has ever tell me. Basic is so important.
At first I thought I was watching Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction with your introduction and your voice tone like James Brolin, until I saw the drums. Very informative btw
love this !
Thanks for this,I'm also getting your book
this help a lot this 26 rudiments are kind of hard for a 8th grader
My young students shouted, "Hey...that's the guy on my sticks!" Yep!
thanks!
Thinks it helped my brother
Thank you Master.
Sam, no, this video is not from Rudimental Remedies, however, that book comes with a DVD and I talk about the same thing.
Dr. Throwdown, what practice pad do you use here?
Is it old version of Vic Firth Slim/Stock pad?
That is the Stock Pad. My favorite!
John Wooton Thank you, dear Doctor!
Lo mejor que vi en rudimentos
Thank you good sir! Very good explanation
Hi Folks, thanks for this video, it helps me a lot to figure out about how to practice! but I sill have one question regardind the VF rudiments.
Considering the Website, the paper for practice give us feel levels, such as Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond, but it doesnot inform the BPM in any of them. Can anyone please tell us wich is the average speed for each one of this levels?
Thanks in advance.
enlightened :)
What sticks are Dr. Wooton using?
🫡 Roger that 🥁
Are u supposed to use arm at all?
Daniel Schneider no no no, you use your wrist and count on the rebound of the drum. only use your arm if you are asked to for aesthetic purposes
Please look closely at Mr. Wooton's motions in this video - he is using his arms. Pause the video here and there, and also slow it down.
She's in New York City.... Again... Thanks NYPD
Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
yo wat up my bro
