This is one of the best Hall of Fame induction speeches EVER!! It is so one brand for the band and absolutely genuine. By far my favorite Canadian band.
I've been to many concerts, but can only name a few where the entire audience stood for the whole concert! Barenaked Ladies was one of them! Great show!
You were my first concet in high school and I still love you this day, almost 20 years later. Growing up on the border, in Detroit, I feel so great to be able to have found you guys in my early years.
Barenaked Ladies are a band that has been with me almost my entire life and which i have slowly realised in the last few years is genuinely one of my favourite bands of all time, i love these guys!
I have to say, I feel that the range of emotions this band is capable of evoking in the listener is damn near unparalleled! Silly, sad, philosophical, enthusiastic, ridiculous, you name it! If there's an emotion, there's probably a BNL song to go with it!
Breaks my heart that Steven Page and Ed Robertson don't sing together anymore, if I had a million dollars I'd buy a Garfunkel and also hire them to do a gig for me!
The BNL’s new song “Too Old” struck a deep cord in me when I first heard it, and it’s been in my head for days now. I can’t help but think about how the band dropped him for his transgression, while other legendary bands and musicians have done much worse. I think they need to consider bringing Steven back if they’re going to stand up against unreasonable judgement in their music. I respect their decisions, it’s just a thought ☕️
I met Ed walking out of the Starbucks / Ben & Jerrys in the Hard Rock Hotel in Biloxi, MS. Literally almost walked right in to him because I was trying to take a pic of some of the memorabilia to send to my cousin. He was actually doing the same thing. Absolutely the nicest guy ever! We talked for five minutes or so and I told him that my husband and I were there to see them for our anniversary. He wished us well and thanked me/us for being fans and hoped we hoped we enjoyed the show. (We had the best time at the show!) When we finished talking, I took a few steps and called my husband who didn’t want to walk down to our vehicle with me, which is where I was headed, but decided to stop at Starbucks/ Ben & Jerrys. I told him I met Ed! He said WHAT! Did you get a picture with him?!? I said no, I didn’t want to ruin the moment by being “that person”. He deserved to enjoy his Frappuccino in peace. We had a cool, interesting conversation, and I was so happy about that. He probably would have taken a selfie with me if I had asked, but I was enjoying talking to him more than anything. Super awesome guy, the band was incredible live, all in all 1,000/10 experience.
I've been blessed to get to know these guys, and their crew, over the years, first while working at Taylor Guitars and then as a music photographer. More down to earth rock stars you'll never meet. I'm honored to know them!
Living on the northern U.S. border I was a big fan of these guys. I remember being in the deep south of America in the late 90's and somebody playing a BNL song, pretty sure it was $1,000,000 Dollars, and talking about this great new song...
Holy freakin cow...The Band that completely occupied the 90's for me. I had just moved back to NY from being on active duty in the ARMY. I had found out that they had been coming to my area in NY for years. It was awesome to be in tight with a band that others had not discovered yet. A huge group of my friends had introduced me to them and I began spreading that info on to my friends across the states. I Called my buddy in Seattle and said wait until you hear these guys. A few weeks later One week hit the charts and they Blew up. Some of the guys had been fond of the area. I had seen them 9 times in a 3 year period.
10 people need to reflect on themselves ....... These guys did it like always the show must go on attitude . They nailed it . The best part they all managed somehow to have lives and families through all the crazyness . They deserve all they worked for and what they don't deserve is anyones animosity . Life goes on .
I still have the yellow tape I bought at the SUB in my school at the time, Fanshawe college when I saw BNL play for at lunch in 1989. I remember them being on speakers corner. So happy for them and to see them perform again.
My dad is oldschool audiophile and music has to be pretty special to get a reaction out of him. I played Gordon the other day when he was visiting and I could tell he was impressed, like he was asking questions about it and paying careful attention.
Growing up 5 miunutes from the canadian border I listened to a ton of BNL on the radio(back when we listened to the radio) Always loved how quirky and fun they were. If I had a million dollars was one of the first songs my wife and I danced to at our wedding!
Having discovered BNL the same way most of Canada did through their spending of a few loonies on Speakers Corner back when Much Music STILLL Played Music I Lost my freaking mind when one day at our local Hardware Store in the bargin bin there sat one lone Yellow jacketed Club Sandwhich 5 song Bare Naked Ladies Cassette I reamined as calm as I could as I spent 5 dollars for it & then. hurriedly got my ass back home hit my room & began playing it for days on end . That cassette made me a BNL fan for life
Canada also has given us some of the greatest Death Metal/ Extreme metal bands as well. Gorguts, Archspire, Blood of Christ, Cryptopsy, Kataklysm I could go on and on..Thank you eternally Canada!!🤘
I remember my introduction to the Barenaked Ladies, though initially it was not because of their music. I was going to school in downtown Detroit in 1995 or 1996 and one night I walked out of school and into our parking lot. From there I could see the marquee for both The Fox and The State (now Fillmore). On the marquee (I forget which venue it was) it said Barenaked Ladies. I had no idea what or who the Barenaked Ladies were or what they did. Fast-forward a few years later and a few shows later and I was definitely a fan, but I’ll never erase forget seeing that marquee and wondering to myself “wtf??”,
A stadium tour would have them raking in $$$$ for a reunion. Kinda surprised it hasn't happened yet. They aren't getting any younger. Do it for the fans!
To each their own. Personally, I think you're missing out on some great music. Not like the heyday, but still good. Does that mean you also don't acknowledge Steve's solo stuff?
Then Toronto Mayor BARBARA HALL.....LoL...Yeah she lost a great deal of support after she banned BNL from playing New Years Eve 1991..she felt the band's name "Objectified" Women....Needless to say not one woman complained about the band's name but more "Who cares??...just a name"
It's didn't matter if you were not into Rock or country Jazz or blues BNL would get your toes tapping Or get you singing along ..The words didn't matter Or have to make sense You felt good Even if you were under there....I just made you think Underwear...
It said something when all the members cannot sit in a room to be interviewed, yet can stand on a stage and sing.....not judging them or who did what. Life is short. Just saying....
The only group that would WRITE A SONG for their thank yous.
Seeing Steven on stage with the rest of the guys made me cry. I'll always love BNL
I not cry your crying 😢. They are iconic. If they could just one more tour together
That little song at the end brought a smile to my face.
This is one of the best Hall of Fame induction speeches EVER!! It is so one brand for the band and absolutely genuine. By far my favorite Canadian band.

As a Canadian American it warms my heart to see such an awesome band become the recipients of such a pretigious award
I've been to many concerts, but can only name a few where the entire audience stood for the whole concert! Barenaked Ladies was one of them! Great show!
*_And that's how you end a thank you induction speech!_*
Hard to believe that they only sold 15 Mil records. These guys are super humble and amazingly talented musicians, all of them!!!
Sometimes talent and creativity are inversely proportional to commercial success.
These guys were truly special.
Watching them cry was really sweet.
You were my first concet in high school and I still love you this day, almost 20 years later. Growing up on the border, in Detroit, I feel so great to be able to have found you guys in my early years.
We can thank 89X and, when Old Apartment broke, Planet 96.3, for that! So sad that both those stations are now lost to the winds of time...
Geddy and Alex were my first concert in high school!
I was at that 80,000 show in Boston and never looked back since. Steve & Ed, you guys were made to be together. Lets gooooooo!!!!!
Have they been doing some gigs together again?
They are such a gift to humanity to learn to lighten up and enjoy the moment.
Rush and BNL, two completely different bands but two of my favorites!
Me too! Completely different, with the exception of incredible musical talent that both groups possess.
Been watching this over the last few years. And I always cry a little during the song
Give me chills every freaking time.
i know right...but I bet Steve Page wishes he had some of them sweet Big Bang royalties
i'm not cryin' you are
They deserve it! One of my favorite bands ever!
I love BARENAKED LADIES...

@@johncmoore416 LOL. They each brought something to the table

These guys became a huge relevation to me 17 years ago when I was kicking cancer's ass. Will always love this band!
@dspf68 Here’s to you kicking it for many years to come.

Ack! This made me emotional! It was so great to see them all together for a bit.
Going to numerous BNL live shows was one of the best parts of my college years. So appropriate to play them on with "Pinch Me"!
Best band ever...and great group of guys!
Living on the northern U.S. border I was a big fan of these guys. I remember being in the deep south of America in the late 90's and somebody playing a BNL song, pretty sure it was $1,000,000 Dollars, and talking about this great new song...

LMAO at the Jason Priestly segment. Completely slayed me. So good. *bows*
Geddy played with Rush at my first high school concert, and I have met Jason Priestly on an elevator, super nice guy!
Love you guys. Such a well deserved honour
Would be one of the greatest reunions if they would go on tour again Steve is missed
I still have the yellow tape I bought at the SUB in my school at the time, Fanshawe college when I saw BNL play for at lunch in 1989. I remember them being on speakers corner. So happy for them and to see them perform again.
As a Canadian, how can you not love this band.
I remember being so excited for this. And I remember thinking "they will definitely get back together after this..."
I saw them in 93 in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan it was an outdoor concert!
I remember seeing Barenaked Ladies perform at a small club in New York called The Bottom Line when Gordon came out. Great show!
Excellent
Great to see them all together for an auspicious occasion. Not all bands can manage even that for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions.
So very cool to see them get the award and cooler still the thank you song at the end. Very BNL...
I effen love Geddy 😊
I'm not crying! YOU'RE crying! First saw them at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa in 1990. I love these guys so much
Is there any chance of them reuniting?
I’d love these 5 to do a reunion tour! They are good apart, the best together!
My dad is oldschool audiophile and music has to be pretty special to get a reaction out of him. I played Gordon the other day when he was visiting and I could tell he was impressed, like he was asking questions about it and paying careful attention.
Good choice. Even though that is an early album, it is *impeccably* recorded.
They are truly special eh? Music and lyrics are just so intelligent.

This made me cry a little
Canada gave us Gordon Lightfoot, Rush and BNL. But they gave us Bieber too so it just proves Canada has a twisted sense of humor.
Can we return?
They also gave us Brian Adams, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Rick moranis, and Dave Thomas! What an awesome list! And I'm certain it goes on and on!
Canada also has given us some of the greatest Death Metal/ Extreme metal bands as well. Gorguts, Archspire, Blood of Christ, Cryptopsy, Kataklysm I could go on and on..Thank you eternally Canada!!🤘
And Dwayne Johnson!
Steve Page, please for the love of music, please reunite with your brothers! Thank you !!
He’s grown past them.
Legend!!
Man! I love BNL, and Rush! Also bubbles and the shit rockers! And TPB. But it's so good to see them back together!
That was awesome!!
BNL kick ass ....But, oh how I miss Ged, Alex & Neil !!
I just saw Steven Page open for Tom Cochrane's concert tonight and he didn't miss a beat!
Nice video. Some good ones to consider.
The guys look good altogether!!!
For any naysayers...listen to Brian Wilson and hear perfection.
Classy.
AWESOME!!

Who else thinks this was long overdue
They should have had Andy come up on stage with them.
Great video
Are Teenage Head in?-just curious I never heard of Juno 3:58 Steven overcome and almost crying when walking to the stage
Am I the only one who loved Tyler Stewart’s “WOO! YEEEAAH!”
Well, I think Larry liked it too
Geddy Lee's got the biggest Junos of them all 😉! But BNL's are also great and deserve induction in this club.
Steve and ed get back together
A stadium tour would have them raking in $$$$ for a reunion. Kinda surprised it hasn't happened yet. They aren't getting any younger. Do it for the fans!
8 52 of Happy tears ❤️
Oh you silly silly boys! I wonder if you REALLY know just what you've done! Thank you thank you thank you!
They were so young when I was in high school...
So were you
🎶 and Canadaa 🎶 now im crying some maple syrup 🇨🇦
I'm not crying, you're crying
Any band who covers Cockburn has my respect.
I guess being inducted is great in itself, but to be inducted by Geddy Lee must make it unbelievable.
Geddy's always got a Junos!
What does that mean?
@@danacoleman4007 say it out loud and think about it....
Why did they disband? For a moment I found myself smiling and thinking they still got it; what a great band they were.
They didn't disband. Steve just left back in 2009.
Monumental goofballs!
It's great that Steven was there, but where was Andy Creeggan?
BNL is the best dad band.
My goodness. His boys have grown. Last I saw them they were tiny little boys running around having the time of their lives. Now they are men.
Did you like the FACTS I'M YOUR MR MEOGEE STILL LOL
I miss the old lineup, but I don’t hope they get back together. I just hope they can have dinner together.
I saw Rush play well over 40 years ago... but I've never heard Geddy speak before. one more thank you to BNL
Geddy Lee you the s***
They need to be inducted in the rock and roll hall of fame!!!
The rock and roll Hall of Fame is completely irrelevant
The Hip and BNL are like the Beatles and Rolling Stones of Canada
I was heart broken when Steven left and refused to acknowledge BNL without Steven Page.
That sounds mature...
It’s as mature as them breaking up.
To each their own. Personally, I think you're missing out on some great music. Not like the heyday, but still good. Does that mean you also don't acknowledge Steve's solo stuff?

Awesome band still without Steven,but.... Steven makes that band with his signature voice!
Why didn't Andy join them on stage?
I'm not sure he was credited as a member by the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, but he did join them for "If I Had $1000000".
It's didn't matter if you were not into Rock or country Jazz or blues BNL would get your toes tapping Or get you singing along ..The words didn't matter Or have to make sense You felt good Even if you were under there....I just made you think Underwear...
Steven Page is Ezra Levant
Their politics are exact opposites. Levant is right-wing yahoo while Steve Page is a supporter of social democracy (the NDP).
@@mrtj49 Levant got the rational mind, and Page got the artistic mind.
There is a similarity. And Ellen Page was his sister, now his brother Elliot.
