The friendship these guys had are so amazing and admirable and enviable that you cannot help but connect with them on such an amazing level that one cannot help be affected by all of this. Really, i get teary eyed every time as well.

@@CL_Audio_Tuning Exactly. It's one thing to simply love their music, but their endurance as a band, friends and truly nice guys set them apart from any other band and make them feel like brothers to fans themselves. It is very rare and refreshing in this age of prima donna entertainers.
So difficult to watch him struggle with Neil's passing. Geddy you are not alone, we are all still mourning this loss.

Especially for former professional drummers like me who at first idolized him then in some senses became him
I met Geddy at his Big Bass Book signing in May 2019.I waited in line for two hours thinking of something to say or ask him when it came time for him to sign my book. All's I came up with was "The end is near" referring to the shortening line behind me rather than Neil's situation, which of course, was unknown to the public. Graciously, Geddy responded with"Thanks for coming out man"

I cried at least twice watching this, trying to hide it from my wife who has no idea what was going on... if she saw me all teary eyed she'd have been a bit concerned, but I feel like she wouldn't have understood I am still mourning the loss of someone that had such a huge impact on my own life.

Geddy is so awesome. One of the greats as well. He’s always had this outlook that what he was doing was not anything special or above others. The way he talks about forming a band, like “running off to join the circus.” He’s always just seen himself as an entertainer, he doesn’t view it in a pretentious or grandiose way. Always gracious with fans and appreciative of where he’s ended up.
Your empathy for Geddy , especially as he discusses Neil's passing allowed him to open up and ventilate. Thank you Geddy for being so vulnerable.
I went to a Rush concert (in Victoria, BC) around 1980-ish only because my husband was a huge fan. I was NOT a fan and was kinda meh about it. It ended up being one of the best concerts I have ever been to in my entire life. No super effects or fireworks, just incredible talent and one hell of a lot of music from 3 guys. I have never forgotten that night.

Likewise. Also when he chose "Headlong Flight" as the closing song. To me both lyrically and musically it is such an incredible encapsulation of my personal experience as a Rush fan; would that I could live all of the amazing times I've had in my life with Rush as the soundtrack to it, and also the incredible musicianship displayed in such a complex piece. While I enjoy all of Clockwork Angels, that to me is my personal favorite track. It just captures the essence of "Rushness" with it's upbeat tempo, complicated parts, and thoughtful lyrics.
Thank you Geddy, Alex, and Neil for enriching (and often narrating) my life with your music.
@@bradcrosier1332 Headlong Flight is like the middle jam segment of By-Tor and the Snow Dog from EXIT… STAGE LEFT at a different tempo, but also reminds me of something else, but I can’t think of which song it is exactly. That’s going to drive me crazy until I figure it out
Whichever one, Headlong Flight really embodies the mold of a classic RUSH song. Especially with the drum solo in the middle and the way Geddy is playing the bass using that open E string in conjunction with the A at the 7th fret, which is E one octave higher than the open E… it’s how he works back and forth between the two strings using the octave string as an accent much like how Neil accents on the snare drum.
That would have all really sounded good had Geddy used the Rickenbacker on it
This interview was very cathartic for me. Tom Power is an exceptionally talented host.
I will never get over the loss of Neil and the loss of Rush but I'm so thankful I had them both in my life for so long.

I know! I heard that while tidying up and it stopped me in my tracks. Damn he nailed it.
My son and I knew about Neil being sick, 9 months before his passing, through someone close to him. The words he told us were: "this is a secret only known by the closest friends of Neil, if you appreciate privacy and respect him as a human being, dont tell anyone". We knowing that terrible news was by serendipity, not out of gossip. We had this terrible secret with us for months like carrying a big stone on your back. To this day I can remember exactly what I was doing the day he passed. Ironically the date is just one day away from my dad´s passing. God Bless Neil Peart and his Family.
No sad tears because it's over. Cry tears of joy because it happened.

I was wondering whether he would choose Afterimage. I was pleased he chose Headlong Flight, as it seems (at least in my inner monologue) that he is indeed moving forward again.
In 1981, my school year group in Aberystwyth, Wales, hired a bus and we went to see Rush at Stafford Bingley Hall. 16 years old. And this man and his band has influenced myself and my friends our entire lives. We're now 58. Thanks Geddy, Alex and Neil.
Almost same story with me! 1981, my best friend brings home MP, and we play it non stop all weekend. Changed how we felt about our then favorite bands. Had heard and loved 2112, but MP made me look even deeper. So thankful to have been alive during their majority touring days. Always wonderful to meet a fellow RUSH fan……we are a different breed…lol.
Ah ha ! In May 1979,my school year group from Penglais school went in a mini-bus (Penrhyncoch) to see Rush at the Birmingham Odeon (Hemispheres tour).Epic night !

This is the best interview with Geddy that I’ve seen.
There hasn’t been a day since I first heard Rush in my early teens, when I haven’t thought about this band. I’m now 55 and it’s wonderful to get a glimpse of this man’s humanity and humility. Thank you Mr Lee.

A friend of mine was playing in a garage band and they played Tom Sawyer that was my ticket to discovery of greatness
My friend made me a Rush tape and since 1985 RUSH is my number one band I still listen to them everyday

Another one that’s even rougher is Angus Young at his brother Malcolm’s funeral. Especially the part where they’re loading Malcolm up and you see Angus following behind with Malcolm’s son while carrying Malcolm’s 1963 Gretsch jet inside its case…
That one was rough to watch. Angus is always so happy and the kind of dude who the moment he walks into a place, everything and all of life becomes a big joke
YES. We sang YYZ here in Brasil in 2002. One of the greatest moments of my life. Thank you for that, Geddy! Thanks for everything.
I’ve watched that concert video at least a dozen times, not because it’s the greatest show Rush ever did (though it is great!) but because of you guys/that audience. Easily the most enthusiastic fans I’ve ever seen. Makes me want to move to Brazil.

Something no interviewer ever addresses is the way they all stayed connected to their original spouses! That's the one thing that makes me admire and respect them as much as their commitment to each other and their music.
I met them at an after-show party back in the 80's. As I walk in, Geddy and a women were over at the bar, and Geddy is clearly very angry and upset at this woman, saying "What part of 'No' don't you understand? I'm MARRIED!" So cool. They say never meet your heros, they'll have feet of clay, well Geddy has feet of 24-carat gold! Wonderful person, really genuinely nice guy.
As a child of World War II refugees, I was already moved to tears when Geddy described his mother's grief. Her experiences, along with my father's, deeply influenced my formative years as well.
Neil's words, together with the power of their collective output, supported me through high school and every challenging or joyful moment in my life. Thus, feeling such a profound loss for a man I never met marked a low point in what was the worst year for all of us.
Then, witnessing this powerful conversation highlighted the magnitude of Geddy's loss, putting my own feelings into stark contrast. As bad as his passing was to me, it must have been incredibly crushing for those who actually knew and loved him. The conversation left me weeping intensely.
It was a powerful, cathartic interview. Thank you both ever so much.
In my teens I met Alex Lifeson in passing in the late 70s. After seeing many interviews with the whole band, including this one it’s incredible how three wealthy, famous and incredibly talented individuals are all so humble and grounded.
I think they all kept each other that way.

Man, the significance of Rush in my life is huge. When I hear certain Rush songs I can vividly see certain times of my life that those songs are part of the soundtrack. Hearing Geddy talk about Neil’s illness towards the end of this video is like a gut punch. RIP Professor.

I am not going to listen. It’s too hard. I’d buy the new record or tape right after it’s release. Just like you I can still remember thru sound. I knew in the 70s it had to be my soundtrack. Then I got killed, it was bad. Trying to learn to walk some again after a life destroying accident and near death experience. Positive but afraid for my future I hear my boys got back in the studio for Vapor Trails. I learned about Neil, felt like him prolly. Then I hear Ghost Rider, Shadows on the road behind shadows on the road ahead. See, something like that destroys your formerly happy view of the past. And man, what insight he had to have gained when he wrote that. So suddenly an album who’s lyrics are now talking to me about me. End of R-40, I’m in the seats, I am weak but I am up. End of show, I knew it, The Garden was the perfect end. But I struggle. So I’m reliving the later stuff. Damn, Counterparts, one of their best. I personally don’t want RUSH back because you can replace just about any musician, but total lyricist? No. It can never be.

Rush is one of the greatest examples of what it looks like when three phenomenal musicians bond together and make incredible music between three really cool guys.
Similar to what happened with Steely Dan - except there were only two! (And of course a host of the finest musicians around at the time).
The best thing is that they all stayed good friends after they became famous and didn't let egos take over and split them up like what has happened to a lot of bands.
Living in the same era as Geddy, Alex and Neil is a blessing for itself.
Geddy Lee is the most mature humble rock star I've ever listened to.

I feel bad for Geddy that while signing books one day prior to Neil’s death…
back when only he and a select few knew what was going on… that a male fan was flirting with him like hardcore while waiting in line (eeeek!!!)
But Geddy’s response to the guys claim that Geddy was smiling and looking into his eyes as he was in the front row in front of Geddy… (makes me need to take multiple showers picturing him telling Geddy this)
I think was the best part was how Geddy handled it. He told the guy “well… you are a handsome fellow… maybe I WAS that night…) 😂
That seems like a response he’s used before which suggests to me that that happens from time to time and that he has to be prepared for that just in case. Because obviously Geddy doesn’t want to make anyone feel bad by saying something like “ahhhh that’s gross man… you’re freaking me out”. So yeah… times like THAT it must really suck being Geddy Lee
Apparently, the guy felt this intense feeling of elation for a brief moment as Geddy handed him his book… but was soon snatched up by two juicers they had on standby, then used his head as a battering ram to open the exit door 😆

What an amazing human being. Thank you Geddy, for playing the music of my life. At the age of 12, I bought y'alls 1st album in 75 with my saved up allowance after hearing "working Man" on the radio. Rush has been MY band ever since.

Started listening to rush at age 12 was a long haired schoolboy by 14 Geddy Neil and Alex were a substantial part of my youth.. it was and remains a privilege and a joy to have had rush be part of my life.. thank you@

Im 18 years old, and ive been playing bass for 4 years. Im absolutely obsessed with rush! Im inspired alot by geddy, hes an amazing bass player and definitely my favorite. I hope that someday ill be able to play bass and sing as good as him!, no band has ever made me feel the way rush has. The musicianship they have us absolutely incredibly, and geddy is so humble and down to earth. Such a huge inspiration for me. I cant wait to get his memoir, its going to be an incredible read! I really hope there are other young rush fans, and musicians that are heavily inspired by them, like me.

Just imagine, as a kid, walking into the library at school, and there is Neil Peart as your librarian. And you have no idea how awesome that is. This interview brought so many memories back. Brought tears of joy to my eyes.
Geddy Lee and RUSH really werea massive part of our life's growing up! I hope they realize the BIG part they played! RIP Neil, and I wish nothing but serenity and happiness to both Geddy Lee's and Alex Lifeson's families!! Thanks for being the anthem of our lives.
I am so glad I was alive at the same time as Alex, Geddy, and Neil. What treasures they are as individuals and as Rush.
Neil definitely had earned the right to feel proud of the body of work that all three of them had put together. They all have and they all should be VERY proud indeed. I have proudly proclaimed to all of my family and friends that Rush is my number one all time favorite band, has been since 1978, and will always be until my last dying breath. I was in junior high when I started, I’m 60 now, and I never “outgrew” them. In fact, they helped me to grow. I’ll always be grateful to them for that.
I'm 64 and have seen Rush 19 times live. Gary, Alex and Neil have had such a profound impact on my life, and my wife's, and 3 daughter's lives, and their husbands and wives and my grandchildren, that I can't even begin to describe it! Thank you thank you Dirk, Lerxst and Bubba...!

Follow up: When Ged talks about Neil and he gets choked up about it I really felt for him. I started tearing up and almost lost it. What a profound friendship these three have.
Rush was the band that really blew me away my first year of high school. Permanent Waves was the first record I had from them. Freewill was such an important song for me at that time, and has been my belief as far as religion is concerned since. FFWD to Neil's death. I was sitting at the gas pumps at a Chevron, when the banner flashed on my phone. I sat there stunned. I pulled behind the store to this big open lot area. Read the article with tears in my eyes. I sat there for about 20 minutes before I drove home. For so many of us, it just slammed the heart. His lyrics are by far the closest anyone has ever come to "speaking to me" so to speak. My favorite band since '80, and always will be. RIP Neil...
I was born in October of 1984, when Geddy Lee was 31 ... now at 39, this interview makes me reflect ... and I can only hope that at 70, as he is, I get to experience at least half of the positive things he has! Amazing man and amazing story!!

You're so right Ged. Lately when someone I miss flashes in my mind. Everyone who's no longer here kinda comes into focus. It's actually comforting to become aware again of all the beautiful times we shared. And appreciate, although less, the people who are still here.

That was a class act interview. Rarely to I find the interviewer as classy as this interview Tom Power. I cant stand it when interviewers interrupt, talk over, or push their check box questions in a hurry. He gave Geddy the space to absorb the questions and illuminate us with answers that fulfilled our reason for watching Geddy this way. And as for Geddy himself, our hearts and genuine compassion is with you and Al are with you as you both move forward with your lives be in or out of music. Just know, your fans just want to see you happy and fulfilled in all that you do, however that transpires. Thanks for this interview.

Profound that he insisted on telling his parents story. What a wonderful man with great character in addition to the public, rockstar that we all know.
I've followed these guys so many decades, they feel like family. Normal family. They go thru what we all go thru, but I have the deepest respect for their mental health, not to mention their talent. You do nothing magic or strong when you lose those close to you - you just keep going because you have no choice. The most respectful thing you can do for a friend when you lose them, is to live on and keep them with you. A huge virtual hug for Geddy. 🐕🦺🐈⬛
Man, the end of this interview has me in tears. Rush wasn't just a band for me. They where an interictal part of my life. Still are. Geddy thank you. just listening to you moves and speaks to me and my life.

What a fabulous interview. Geddy comes across as a really humble guy with no ego at all. And yet he is a brilliant musician who was a member of one of the greatest bands of all time. When he talks about Mr. Peart, it is unbelievably emotional.
I always enjoy stories about Geddy's, Alex's, and Neil's friendship. A lot of bands are just business partners. Not only were they top notch musicians but great friends. Very rare.
Neil's untimely passing felt to me like losing a close friend or relative, i can't imagine how his two best mates felt. Its incredibly sad. At least we have a treasure trove of kickass music that will last forever ❤

"You can get lost in your own past". I've been there . Still am in some regards. I needed that.
I saw his book tour on Monday night at the Beacon in NYC. It was revelatory and beats learn so much about this man. Many of you will find that Geddy is exactly the person you always thought he was. We were right all along, even without social media.
I could listen to this guy all day long. So emotionally intelligent, authentic. Can’t wait to read the book!

The death of Gary’s Dad brought the world Geddy Lee. Weird how sometimes we don’t or can’t see the good that can come from something so sad.
These men are a treasure to Earth. We are all better off as a result of their life’s work.

I can not even begin to imagine what it was like to lose someone you have spent just about all your life with, traveling the world sharing so much with, creating a legacy that will live way beyond your years on this earth, you can completely see how much he loved him for who Neal was, not for how great of a musician he is!!!! It's 2023, and I never paid attention to Rush, (my loss for sure), but I've become a fan recently from interviews like this, (and RNRHOF speeches). How they do what they do is waaaaaaay beyond me, but I can tell there's something very special going on with these guys, and I like it.
I am sitting here crying as I hear the tribute to Neil. I remember the day at work when they announced it as I cried for about an hour. I had been listening to Rush since the late 1970's. Such a loss.
Other than Kings x, I have never seen another band whose members love each other so much. I'm so grateful for all the music Rush was able to provide for us.

I hope Neil knew in those moments reviewing their work, that he had created some of the greatest, most inspiring, and most influential art of all time. And though most people aren’t aware of that, I and many, many others are. It changed my life and his inspiration and influence will endure for many generations.
Brilliant band! I saw them live in the 70's on the All The World's A Stage Tour. They were the headliner, the 2 opening bands were Blue Oyster Cult and Foghat. One hell of a night! The highlight of the night was the 10-15 minute drum solo in Working Man! RIP Neil. ❤ 🤘

I sent my wife and nephew, (all of us big Rush fans) to see Geddy in DC for his book tour. They are in heaven, both have a book... but this interview was for me! I am so grateful for it, as a 42 year long Rush fan, now 56 yo, it answered so many questions for me and gave me a sense of closure. We loved the R40 movie, but miss Rush dearly every day! RIP Neil and thank you Geddy and Tom for this interview.❤
Man, Geddy is really something special. Wow. And obviously so is RUSH. My fav band of all time and it’s not even close.
wow - what a tremendous and special presence. major kudos to Tom Power for bringing his A-game to the table. The Dan Rather interview was also an incredible opportunity to see a bit into Geddy's engine room.
