This is our old car!!! Can't believe you bought it 😂. But now you have, please restore it, don't scrap it. We wanted too but couldn't afford it. We live miles and miles away from Automatrix. We desperately wanted to get it to him. We also have a Stepwagon same year in a similar state! Lee is your man! He is a legend to anyone who owns SMX/Stepwagons in this country. Fix it up!!!!!!!!! @@Jb7878-i8r The mechanic said he would offer breaking money (£200 - £300) for it. The lads said that they paid 2-3 times more for it, so I would assume £500 - £900 which seems expensive for a rust bucket. But then again, it's a rare care in the UK.

If you can save that junker of a Porsche, than you can def save this one too. Make a great series of saving this quirky little box 👍 Ethan learns to weld in the next 293847 episodes 😅
Ethan, you can get windshield filler to sort out the chip and as for protection there are films you can get that go over your windshield to prevent rocks and what not cracking it. They are kind of like a screen protector on a phone. But uuh, looking at the underside there are bigger things to worry about.
I think this one is absolutely worthy of a full restoration. Would love to watch a series about it! It's such a unique car and the fact that you guys found a specialist for it is incredible. PROJECT SMX!!! ❤
Great to finally find out what Lee from AutoMatrix looks like. Was mega helpful when I was working on my neighbour's SM-X! Save it. Do a vid on getting inner and outer sill profiles made, and get Ethan welding.
I can't believe I'm rooting for a black version of postman Pat's van however it would appear that I am! You've got to get this thing back on the road and not half arsed either. Do it properly and it will be a great mini series to watch....on second thoughts, the welding may be like 9 years of Project Binky all over again!
Time for Ethan to learn to weld! I saved a very rare Honda last year that was rotten in a pretty unusual way, as a complete novice and with a £50 MIG welder off Facebook marketplace. Its a very useful skill to have, and would make a decent video. Very very satisfying to bring a car back that most people would’ve scrapped!
If you like the Honda, keep it, however it will become a labour of love!! Once fixed/repaired it will live on but this will be down to the effort put in to get it looking as it should all old cars contain rust it's how you future proof and noting its rarety some components will be like hens teeth to find let alone buy so it may end up being converted or upgraded having parts fitted that can be replaced easily like brake components, exhaust etc..... Good luck with the rebuild or cut your losses and weigh it in for spares
I've never seen a chassis rusted out like that!! Those salted roads really do a number on the underbody (I'm an Aussie we dont salt our roads - dont need to)
This car must be saved. It’s Ethan’s dream car! Why doesn’t Ethan learn to do welding and weld this up with the help of a professional? And then give the car a FULL respray too. Would love to see Ethan doing all of this!
I think the best thing about that car was the interior, the km/h speedometer (because who uses miles, aside from the UK and USA) and the aftermarket stereo! Being one with light up LEDs, it should at least have Bluetooth!
7:50 Ethan went on to Alex’s channel this was the perfect opportunity for Taylor to come on to car throttle and do his thing poking some rust! 😂 Cheers Pat 🇦🇺
Japanese cars, no matter what make, always seem to have a brilliant tendancy to rot spectacularly from the inside out. They can look absolutely mint on the outside but be completely rotten underneath. I got stung by a Celica that didn't have a spec of rust on the body. A look underneath on the side of the road it seemed a bit crusty but solid. Its only after bought it and had it on the ramp that i realised how bad it was. My father in law had a Primera Tino, again, mint on the outside but the subframe was more sieve than structural. I was looking at buying an MX5 and the rear quarter panel at the bottom of the wheel arch had bugger all metal behind it. The inner panel disintegrated when pressed it with my thumb.
Honestly, I didn't like this show when Alex was involved but this format with you three is goooood! always looking forward to the next episode, GOOD JOB!
anyone that would be able to genuienly save this car (not only for a looks/video) is a true hero. Coz the car right now is dangerous to drive with all the rust.
You've got to save this one guys. Get it welded, then let Lee work his magic on it. Also you should give us another 5 minutes looking at some of the other little gems that are sitting there.
It would be good to see Car Throttle to have a crack at doing the welding, maybe go full tubular chassis with a K20 swap. You already know how to take an engine in and out. If you had a welder and 🤏 effort. Could be cool.
Once the minor things like new sills and gaskets are sorted, I think you should spin the wheel of (mis)fortune to pick a new colour to make Ethan get the car sprayed in - terrible options only.
This is a question for Jack. Were you on the quiz show "Tipping Point", at some point? I saw a rerun on TV over here recently and there was a guy on there who looked very like you, sounded like you and was also named Jack who made it to the final round on the machine. Cheers in advance. IDB.
This needs to be saved. They have saved so much crap in the past and this one is way more special.
yep a rare motor
Damn right!
Ethan learns to weld
Please save it
Yh pls save this its a belter
I think it is time to teach Ethan how to weld!
I came here to say these exact words!!
YEEEEEES. Id be interested myself
You need something to weld TO!
he welded diff tho

Imagine the whole “Ethan’s Weld” arc, where Ethan transitions into his dark side of working with metal instead of wood
@@aidarsays I 'wood' love to see that
Of all the cars you have done work on this needs to be fully saved & restored
Great day filming this with Ethan, Jack and crew. Even if it was the coldest day ever!!!
We are already talking about next steps with this S-MX
So what’s the plan with the car? I imagine you guys first make it road worthy removing some rust
That is excellent!
May I ask how things are with it now that it is five months later? :)

@@automatrixuk That is nice to hear! Thank you kindly for the update. ^^
It’s time to shine - make it the most original and non rusted SMX in the UK
Most original? The mechanic said they would already have to use parts from other Hondas, Fords, and whatnot: 11:00 & 11:24
Do an extensive rust repair mission like Alex with his Miata!
fix it and convert it into a mini camper, so that it can take part in some kind of mad cap challenge for Ethan to drive around Europe with
i know there is a running joke about the layout and curtains, but loads of JDM cars had lace curtains, might be able to get a universal kit for it
Great idea tbf

Definitely worth a restoration! Videos have been so good recently too.
This has Yorkshire car restoration all over it. 😍😍
It was heartbreaking looking at Ethan’s face as the mechanic used his magic wand to make the sills disappear!😔

Try restoring a lada... I am restoring mine and it has a lot more rust then your honda😅 but awesome vid as usual cant wait to see more!
Nice to see the SMX getting some loving online! Mine was just as rotten on the rear!
Looks like a job for Yorkshire Car Restoration! 😀 The rust initially doesn't look as bad as Alex's BMW Touring though.
