So, I’ve been watching for a couple months then this relic shows up in my “recommended “. Now that little ditty is a knee slapper. How about a tutorial on it? Cheers, mate!
Hi Richard, That's easy, I have plenty of building videos showing how its done. Just go to my CBG building playlist. ua-cam.com/play/PLsVq_J4z4mmUGf81YccBQ5RAZ3DSnlIjs.html
Hi Stan, Thanks for checking out the videos. Depending on the look I'm going for, I will use a satin or gloss polyurethane. I usually finish with frets in.
Thanks Steve. I have a WEN belt sander, scroll saw, chain saw 40v I like the quality and the prices are good. This is the sander I have amzn.to/32axaDk
Hi Michael, I measured the distance from the fret-board to the strings & they seem ok****1st fret .2mm****17th fret .7mm & the bridge height .10mm. & If I put a capo on the the sound is great. I don't know Michael but I think it must be me. Thank you Michael, God Bless.
Excellent stuff, Michael! About how much overlap do you like to have between the neck and the heel? I have some 2ft necks coming and would like to have a piece inside the box for maximum strength. Thanks!
Hello Michael. I have some questions please : 1. How much long for the overlap beetween neck and heel wood ? 2. how much long the heel peep out from the box ? 3. how much long the neck going inside the box ? 4. The neck you mention is about 3/4" or 1.9 cm thick .... is that before adding fretboard ? 5. What is the fretboard thickness ? Thanks Michael.
Michael, I've got a problem when using any finger to bar, its never a clean sound but if I put a slide on my finger the sound seems a much better sound, any ideas Michael? Its a 3 string CBG. I've always found it difficult to bar when using any of my 6 string guitars. Thank you Michael.
Hi Peter. It could be your strings are set a bit too high from the fret board ( the string action). When using your slide, it doesn't matter if the string are high, because you don't have to push the strings all the way down to the frets. Hope this helps. M~
Sprinkle a few grains of salt into the glue on both ends and in the middle before clamping. It will stop the pieces from skating. The salt desolves harmlessly into the glue, just don't overdo it...a few grains.
I can't wait to see how these two necks look when their finished. I will post another video, to show them off :)
Very clever Michael, Thanks for showing us. Best Wishes.
Thank you, Peter. Best wishes to you, as well. M~
Always love your videos Michael.

Thanks, Necks are 32'' The heels vary depending on the box. M~
Michael . What kind of finish do you use on the neck and fretboard . Do you finish the wood with the frets in . thanks much.

Thanks for the tips, Michael! I’m in the market for a belt sander and noticed you have a Wen. Do you recommend it? What model is it?

Hi Peter, at the 12th fret I like to shoot for about 4-5 mm, 6mm maybe, for slide playing but 7 mm is not too bad. M~
Thank you Michael for all you help & advise, God Bless you.
@@peterhaynes8258 Your welcome, Peter. Anytime. M~

Thanks amb. I like the heel to be 3'' out of the box. I try to get a least 8'' of glue space between the neck and heel. M~
I see you using a lot of 1/4” thick walnut. Where do you get that? Makes for a classy look. Is it hard to hand cut fret slots?
Hey six, Yes, that walnut has a real nice look, and pretty easy to cut fret slots. Easier than oak. I get it here Walnut boards, amzn.to/3aGOPq2
Oh, thanks my friend!
