🤩 I really like how this game looks!!! Like you said, I could play on paper, but the production is really attractive and I could see my hubby and I playing this a lot!! Thank you for sharing another game I’ve never heard of!!
Start of video: I don't need a physical copy of this. 6 minutes in: Added to my cart 😂😂😂 Awesome video! This looks like a perfect game to take to the office and play at lunch with my coworkers. Thanks for sharing! Those wooden pieces are so dope 🔥🔥🔥
Haha I love this comment. I will say the game is much better in its physical form. It just seems kinda quick and light to warrant a box this big. But you’re correct, I think it would make a PERFECT office game!!! You won’t regret it. Thanks for watching!!
I don't need to play this to know if I want it or not. I want it. Knitzia is possibly my favorite designer of all. Given how prolific he is, it is incredible how many great games he has. He may have some duds every so often, but the amount of great(unique) ones make up for it, no doubt.
Absolutely agree. How 1 guy can create 800 games is baffling to me, and like you said, there may be a small handful of “meh” games in there, but the vast majority of his games are unbelievably good!! He amazes me. The guy is unrivaled as far as I’m concerned!
Love these old Knizia abstracts. I've never heard of this, am giving it a whirl on paper.... thanks for the suggestion! It looks like a common strategy would be to place as many of your high value discs in the center, since they'll score you the most line opportunities. To add a bluffing element, you could hide all your discs behind a screen, then on each turn players put out 2 discs....one face up and one face down. Then all discs are revealed at the end of the game line by line placing the blocks. Tied lines go to the player with fewer discs first, if still tied, goes to the player with a disc closest to the scoring space.
Thanks for watching and for the great variant idea! The rulebook has a variant to play with all face down disks and then reveal them at the end, but I like your idea of 1 up and 1 down. It definitely seems like it could work!! Playing the game on paper definitely isn’t quite the same as these awesome wooden pieces, but it definitely can give you a good idea of some strategies to try out. I’ve seen this play out very differently every time I’ve played. I’ve tried to figure out where the best place is to place my higher numbers. You’d think in the center would be ideal, but those larger rows are harder to dominate because they require more disks. Often times I end up placing my larger numbers in the shorter rows when my opponent has used all their large numbers because it guarantees me a row with 1 placement. It’s much trickier than it seems at first. I love trying to control multiple rows with one placement, especially before the rows are full. It’s quite satisfying to pull off those types of moves! I’m going to try your variant idea next time I play. It sounds fun!!!
That would be cool to see a 3D printed version! If you ever get around to it, let me know! I would love to see what it looks like!! Thanks for watching :)
Thanks B7! Yeah it has to be one of the easiest rulesets I’ve ever seen!! Leave it to Knizia to make a great game out of hardly any rules 😅 The guy is a genius!
Another great episode! When you said all you need is a pen and paper it reminded me of an older Knizia game that's print and play called Decathlon. It's a pretty fun filler. On the topic of megaliths, have you played Giants? It's about erecting the statues on Easter Island. Great production for being an older game.
Thanks! I _have_ played through the decathlon game! It’s so good! One of my favorite little dice fillers came out of that. I forget which “event” it was, but we call it “1, 4, 24.” We play that one all the time! Giants is on my shelf of shame!!! I realllllly need to play it soon! It’s been sitting there for years 😩
@@coalitionofseekers9572 man that’s a crazy hard question 😁 and an excellent question to ponder. I’ll have to think on it for awhile. Sooooo many to choose from. Excape has been a go-to game for our family game nights: such a fun design (we have the Rapido edition). High Society and Dragon Parade are both great. But the first one that came to mind when I read your question was Quandary. I love that game so much and it’s so addicting. Genesis is a borderline filler but I don’t think that counts as a pure filler game. I’m sure I’m forgetting some obvious ones that I can’t recall … Lost Cities of course. I honestly don’t think I could choose a favorite 😅 😂
Weird, I just looked and yeah, the Megalith box says “a variant of Stonehenge” so I bet it’s not quite the same. Stonehenge also is listed as a “reimplementation” of Linea, which appears to be a print & play on paper or something?? But it looks like a different grid and different number distribution. Interesting! This seems like a game that could totally be reprinted today.
Have you played ‘Rose King’? Another clever abstract game like this one, in which you try to form large groups that score by the square of the total no. of counters in them. (E.G. a group of 4 scores 4x4=16 points) Placement is by movement cards & each player has ‘knight’ cards that can change a counter’s colour to theirs - which can drastically change the score. There is also an app version called ‘King Tactics’ (I know, crummy name) that does all the ‘maths’ for you. I just think it’s one of the thinkiest simple games out there - am addicted. If you haven’t tried this one I think you will agree.
Yes!! Rose King is awesome! I am going to feature it on my next "2p games" episode ;) It's one of my all time fav 2p games. Absolute classic!! Thanks for the comment!
You could play with coins... one player using heads and one player using tails. At least in Australia it would work as we have 6 types of coin... (5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1, $2)

Thanks for watching! Hope you can find a copy and try it out! It's a great little filler game for couples!

I owned a copy but sold to someone who was desperately looking for it. I still keep meaning to one day 3D print me a set to play again :)
That would be cool to see a 3D printed version! If you ever get around to it, let me know! I would love to see what it looks like!! Thanks for watching :)
Watched this again recently & have made my own version using DICE - works well! 🎲
Love to see this as a game app, mind.
Hey, using dice is a great idea!!! Love it!!! Yes, this would be such a simple app game for someone to make.
I don't even need to read the rulebook now! Love that it's quick to play, great find for an awesome price! Another fantastic episode UDG! 😺

@undiscovered_games what is your favorite Knizia filler. Mine is Excape. So simple but always hilarious.

Looks awesome! There was never an English version? BGG lists something called Megalith but it looks different.

Cool! Bonus :-)
Interesting game, fascinating. Thank you
Fascinating game for sure! A wonderful little filler from the Good Doctor! :)
@@undiscovered_games love his games

@@undiscovered_games totally agree
