Really well researched video…the added spreadsheet is clear and concise. Your demonstration of the guitars was consistent and well presented. Great stuff!
Man you have one of the best guitar channels in UA-cam. I appreciate the effort you put in making great content. Best of luck growing the channel, cheers from Miami, Florida- USA
Been playing guitar for over 50 years, starting with high school rock bands in the 60s....GREAT job: clear informative and lovely presentation. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
I like this crazy idea of trying to get clicks and views by actually doing tons of useful leg-work researching and preparing stuff and then presenting it clearly and concisely.
The Journey in my eyes looks terrific! I like the shape. It’s a little different to anything else but in a good way. This red is also great but I just found the faded blue one.... Gorgeous. I love your videos by the way. Real quality! 😃👌
I own a Taylor GS Mini, a Guild Jumbo Junior, a Yamaha J1, a Harley Benton Travel GS. I owned many iterations of Traveler Guitars (the Mark III acoustic and the electric made in cooperation with ESP LTD), but I sold all of them. Tuning stability was always an issue and the sound was not on par with other guitars. Recently I added to my collection the Enya Nova Go Sp1 and the Enya Nova Go Sonic. Very affordable and the built effects are great.
There is one more you could have included. The Steinberger Spirit (Electric). It has a regular scale, two humbuckers, a useable tremolo and is even shorter than the Donner probably. I have one. Once set up properly it’s great! Cost € 409. I‘ll be using it for busking.
Thank you for showcasing these guitars, Dave. I'm buying one soon, and this helps me. Love watching your tutorials and playthrough! I'd appreciate it if you upload a lesson to play There is a Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths.
I owned 2 of those a few years ago. Had to send both of them back. Bad work on neck joint. Would not stay in tune. Hope they fixed that problem. Not sure I would risk owning another Taylor again.
Very good video, plenty of information. Still, I think you should add the Lapstick and Minicorda, as these are even more portable guitars, fitting into a carryon luggage. Thanks for your hard work to make this video!
Peopl;e must not be all that interested in travel guitars, thought this video would have more views, I've looked at a lot of youtube videos on travel guitars just now and this one is easily the most well made put together of them.
These are the most commonly available I could find. Very hard to find Voyage Air guitars where I live. I'll have to try one someday though, thanks for the suggestion.
Lava guitars with touch are region locked in a way. If you register with a phone number in one country, then move to another, you may have to restart the software. If you do, need access to the phone where it was registered. Not always possible.
I have the solution after I’ve tried and own most of those travel bastards , I really think that the best option for a travel guitar is The Yamaha csf1m that I’ve buyed at launch for 380€
I appreciate your in depth review! I’ve been waiting for this. Furch is looking to be my next guitar. My main guitar purchase. For now. I’m enjoying my Enya SE.
I was looking for a good quality 3/4 acoustic(small hands, literally cant even hold down an F chord on a full size) but they were all toy quality so I couldnt find any. But these seem great!
You’re welcome. If possible try them in person to see how you like the feel of them. If you’re looking for something with that small scale the LX1 or Gs mini might be the best choice here for you
Cheers Dave another great review personally own a GS mini Koa Taylor, it’s a beast, thou that Lava sounded pretty sweet, Martin’s always sound bright & punchy… for the overall sound, price & overall travel axe I’ll stick to the GS🤘
Thanks for another great video. If you are interested in hearing a totally new approach to acoustic guitars, check out the classical guitar set up with steel strings and the TurboTail. It beats most regular steel steel string guitars, hands down.
I'd like to get your opinion on the 'lapstick'. It looks like an interesting option that has some features that none of the others do mainly designed to be small enough to play WHILE traveling.
Great stuff! love the spreadsheet as well. Did you have the chance to try the Vox SDC-1 Mini? would be keen to know your opinion when comparing to these. Thanks heaps for recording and uploading this
I'm not gonna lie you had me on the edge of my seat waiting to hear how the Journey guitar was going to sound, every video cut you had while describing it I was like O!! He's gonna play it. O!!... damn.. O! O! nope. :D
Thanks for doing this review. I’ll be traveling to Europe and I think the traveler guitar will work for me. Is there any advantage from the acoustic version to the electric version?? Thanks again!!
Traveler guitar acoustic is almost impossible to tune! Strings catch on the bridge and slowly release as you play. The electric version completely solves this issue with a roller bridge. The electric is a great guitar!!!
I did think about including that however - it was quite difficult to find anywhere near me that sold it. So I tried to focus on those that are fairly widely available and most common. Would love to test one someday!
For a travel guitar I would also add ruggedness and atmospheric stability to your triangle... i've played the martin backpacker and it sounds like junk
The Positive grid spark go works for acoustic as well! Would probably suggest the Spark Mini though if you're ok with something a little bigger as it's a lot louder! They all work with acoustic :)
Donner Hush-I survivor here: that guitar was so awful. It was the first time I ever had to return a guitar, the action was so high, even when put down, I still could not do a simple F Chord without feeling like I’m pressing against metal pipes. Highly do NOT recommend Donner. I fell for the ads. Don’t fall for it.
@@danielledorchester9739 since I never got it or tried it before, I can't give an answer, I wouldn't trust the brand in general, I would rather pay extra for better quality than settle 🤷🏻
@@danielledorchester9739Just got my Hush X two weeks ago. For what it is, I love it! Probably my only complaint is no on/off switch. You have to put a battery in every time you go to use it. Sounds great coming through my amps. My buddy has the first Hush and I did not care for it so very glad to have held out for the X.
@@OkinawanPride13 Yeah, for what it is it is def decent. I’m totally with you on that first one. My friend had one and I was like NOPE and didn’t get it.
Nice presentation, however, adding "where" it is made, "Fair Labor" treatment & "sustainably" sourced materials would be "My" reason for purchasing a Travel guitar regardless of "who" sponsors them...
I use Traveler Ultra Light Acoustic but with electric guitar strings on for a couple of years. And i also use Vox Amplug 2 Classical Rock amp with headphones and i get a quite Good rock sound. When the amp is in clean tone mode with low gain, i also get a nice acoustic sound.
I’ve had a Martin Backpacker’s guitar for about 8 years. It’s been ideal for teaching guitar, as it saves me from lugging my regular acoustic guitar for in-home lessons. Thanks for making this comparison video. I’ve been thinking about getting a Donner Hush-X.
EDITED: travel guitars are not my thing. You should purchase anything you review though, not all of these were purchased(some were on loan or given from the manufacturer/shops)..otherwise it's a biased opinion, even if minimal bias. I generally trust your opinion, but I trust transparency and my own thinking more. Your tutorials are good.
Not sponsored, no one paid me to create this. I’m not encouraging people to buy a travel guitar if they don’t need it. I use full size myself all the time at home. I just wanted to help those who were searching for a travel guitar on the go but didn’t know where to start :)
Some people travel a lot because of the line of work they are in. This review is very welcome for people in the airline industry like me who spend a lot of time in hotel rooms. I’ve been looking for something else to do besides Netflix. My normal guitar is to big to take with me during work.
Really well researched video…the added spreadsheet is clear and concise.

Great video, Dave! Very happy to be a part of this huge project and in the company of so many other awesome guitars!

I love my Furch Little Jane in cedar and mahogany. Sounds like a big guitar, lots of projection and very rich tone - all fits in a backpack!
Yup agreed - it's a stellar guitar!
I was honestly surprised by the martin backpackers loud and brightness. Damn.
Yeh it’s a surprising guitar! Certainly quieter than the others though
You should try Strobel Guitar. For me the best travel electric Guitar
