We are huge Disney Fans, but we haven't been fans of the new Disney live action movies, so we are super excited to see what the new Disney Cruella live action movie will be like. Cruella (plot)
Cruella is a 2021 American crime comedy film based on the character Cruella de Vil from Dodie Smith's 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians. Cruella film is directed by Craig Gillespie with a screenplay by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, from a story by Aline Brosh McKenna, Kelly Marcel, and Steve Zissis. Cruella Movie is the third live-action adaptation in the 101 Dalmatians franchise and serves as a prequel. Emma Stone stars as the title character Cruella, with Emma Thompson , Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Mark Strong in supporting roles. Cruella is set in London during the punk rock movement of the 1970s, the film Cruella revolves around Estella Miller, an aspiring fashion designer, as she explores the path that will lead her to become a notorious up and coming fashion designer known as Cruella de Vil.
Walt Disney Pictures announced the film's development in 2013, with Andrew Gunn as producer. Emma Stone was cast in 2016 and also serves as an executive producer on the film alongside Glenn Close, who portrayed Cruella in the previous live-action adaptations, 101 Dalmatians (1996) and 102 Dalmatians (2000). Principal photography took place from August and November 2019 in England.
Cruella premiered in Los Angeles on May 18, 2021, the first major red carpet event since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and was released in the United States theatrically and simultaneously available on Disney+ with Premier Access on May 28. Cruella has grossed $87 million worldwide and received praise from critics for Gillespie's direction, the performances (particularly Stone, Thompson, and Hauser), costume design, production values, and soundtrack, but criticism for its screenplay. A Cruella sequel is currently in development.

@@EdizAndBen Yes, because last year Disney released some not very good films, for example Mulan, The Lion King and others, and this one was accepted and had great reviews, surpassing Aladdin in the matter of public approval. And I loved this new Cruella, the movie director wanted to do something different with Cruella, he didn't want to be inspired too much by the cartoon movie

Agreed, it is a very good movie, I think the only problem for me is that it’s the origin story of Cruella…….the woman that wants to kill puppies, I love this Cruella and I hate the Cruella from the 101 Dalmatians, if this was about a girl that wants to be a fashion designer without being Cruella I would’ve enjoyed it much more I think, though maybe it wouldn’t have had the fame that it does without the name of the 101 Dalmatians attached to it but still who knows right, Emma Stone is wonderful and she makes Cruella attractive, I actually find her attractive which is not something I ever thought I would think…..yea I didn’t even think I would think that but I did, it’s a good movie.

the plot twist was definitly something i didnt see coming!
i really like how we see estella and jaspers relationship deteriorate as she becomes cruella and cares more and more about revenge, and how we see it fixed in the end.
16:55 this bit gave me chills while watching!
the bit where cruella controls the dogs is really cool-on once upon a time, cruella's character has a similar power so at one point she even controls maleficent while she's a dragon! i know this film isnt about her having magic powers but that would be a fun aspect to explore!
i like how we get to see how hell hall was cruella's inheritance as we didnt get much insight in the original other than knowing it was the de vil residence
the ending scene with rodger anita pongo and perdita is so good! id love to see what influences this cruella to steal their puppies as in the originl we didnt know that cruella gave rodger pongo and anita perdita.
id rate it an 8-i liked that it wasnt just another 101 dalmatians remake-the actors were fantastic and i actually really liked the new backstory and the costumes were great!
i hope disney continues with villain origin stories! next i hope they do ursula, eexplore if shes tritons sister and why she was banished, or scar and his childhood with mufasa or maybe jafar or hades and see how they got the power and roles they had!
i feel we get a backstory for the evil queen in once upon a time and i doubt disney would do this seeing as hunchback was so dark and controversial but a backstory to frollo would be intereasting!

See I didnt know that Roger and Anita was a part of this story as I thought age was an issue, but I loved the reveal at the end.

@@EdizAndBen I don’t think it’s as good as it’s best reviews, I also don’t think it’s as mediocre as it’s worst reviews. However I loved the world that it’s set in and Emma Thompson, Emma Thompson , Emma Thompson. She just elevates any material she’s in. I adore her. Two time oscar winner and I still think she’s insanely underrated and doesn’t get the opportunities she should like say Meryl Streep.

Cruella reminds me a lot of Simba from the lion king 🦁👑 because both of them had their parents murdered, ran away, made new friends, got revenge on their parents murderer but doesn’t kill anyone or the murderer and are some kind of royalty🤴 🫅 👸

I absolutely HATE these live-action Disney remakes/retellings/backstories. They're never as great as their animated predecessors--since, go figure, animation expresses so much more--and modern issues are often gracelessly shoehorned in, detracting from the "timeless charm" of the originals.
When it comes to Cruella--WHY? If you've seen the original, you understand clearly that she's a completely psycho immoral bitch. Her character as a villainess was iconic--like Maleficent, Ursula, Cinderella's Evil Stepmother, etc. ...every "wicked" villain that Disney chose to include was directly tied to original, cultural folkloric stories & fairy-tales, which were already borne from deep, socio/psychological realities.
It's awful that women are portrayed as "evil" so often in fairy-tales & folklore, but in the past, headstrong women could often only manifest their frustrations by exerting control over those more helpless--younger females. There are also evil fathers who sought incestuous relations with their daughters--due to a dying wish from their beautiful spouses. A fascinating discussion for another time.
What's been presented in these tales is always a distinct dichotomy: There are cruel, vile, immoral, corrupt, vicious, EVIL monsters--and they're not always women. A villain has always been necessary within such folklore, just as pure, kind, victimized, righteous, innocent, brave heroes/heroines have been a necessary counterpoint. That distinction hammers home the ultimate moral function of these tales.
Cruella only cared about fashion and herself. She was willing to slaughter puppies for her own self-satisfaction. Maleficent only cared about herself, her pride, and her power. She was willing to KILL a newborn princess out of spite, for being excluded. Cinderella's stepmother only cared about herself & her daughters' appearances & future. She was (originally) willing to sacrifice her daughters' feet (heels & toes), as well as her stepdaughter's happiness & livelihood, just to secure a higher place for herself. Snow White's mother was willing to protect her pride & vanity by KILLING her innocent stepchild. They had their reasons, yes, but again--a discussion for another time.
Like I said, trying to "humanize" these iconic figures of evil ultimately takes away from the original point of their tales. From a cultural & literary standpoint, there had to a clear, black & white, good-vs-evil standpoint, otherwise such tales would never have lasted & affected so many.
This "Cruella" is modelled after any modern-day millennial, and her eventual bloodthirst for animal pelts is completely washed over. She's a poor, sympathetic replacement that will never jive with her eventual cruelty & evil.
So yaaaaaay, it's a fun film in its own regard, but it has little to do with the original--just as all these other remakes are watered-down, modernized, bastardized versions of powerfully iconic lore.
Edit: This explains the sudden, jarring change we see in Estella. Disney had to shoehorn in some BS cruelty to excuse her future villainy. Estella's bio-mom is the ultimate Cruella--even this film had a purely wicked woman as the villain to prove a moral point. Ahhh, Disney. Hypocrisy much?

With the live actions, I do prefer it when they make an original origin story or prequel like this rather than a shot to shot remake. However, you’re right, it’s not great if they then undermine the original!
So this film showed us the reason why Cruellas evil, do we now need a movie to show why her bio mum is evil?? 😅😅
