thank you for giving me background audio while studying!!! these long videos are always good for it and guessing where the disused stations are is always fun! :D
Hey mate fantastic and I cannot get enough of your videos especially these long trips in country Victoria. I assume you notice how much the S class wanders around compared the C class with your down trip to Horsham and to hear the C class in the back ground when you leave Murtoa is magic. Thanks for your posts.

Hi. I’ve watched lots of your great videos, for which I am most grateful. Two questions about this one: at many places in the video, we see the loco moving quite a bit laterally, I.e. side-to-side. That is particularly noticeable when you’re moving quite quickly, such as around 3hrs 15mins. Is this normal, or is it a peculiarly of the elderly S-class loco you’re driving? It looks quite alarming when you watch it at double-speed! Also, how fast can these things go? According to my quick calculations, you’re doing around 110-120 km/h. Again, thanks for posting some really interesting stuff!
@@chrisedmondson8321 it's a combination of the track condition along there with the type of locomotive that causes the lateral movement. The S class locomotives are allowed a maximum of 115kph which is what we were sitting on for a lot of the trip. Very happy you are enjoying the channel. 👍😀
G'day, l have been away in Hospital had a opp on my foot, and back home now resting, just caught up on this trip you have videoed quite epic, great countryside hope to be travelling through it on holiday soon, hope all is well with you and yours, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Hope all goes well with you Neil and have a great holiday when you go. This is certainly epic. Longest for the channel so far. Very happy you enjoyed it 👍 😀
I'm loving these SG track videos. It's the future of Aus railways and good to see what it can really do on good lines. If everything is standardised it should help make it all more profitable to run into the future and hopefully get some old lines to some old towns back again.
It's a pity it wasn't done when it was planned to convert the whole state of Victoria to standard gauge back in the 1940's. 🤔 Glad you are enjoying them 👍😀
@@driver667 I don't know what the situation is nowadays vs back then. I always had the impression the railway network was vastly larger prior to ~1980 and more so before 1960. Surely they could seize upon this as an excuse to do all sorts of works, at least crappy suburban lines would get a massive upgrade, plus potential to improve speeds. I knew the first Xtrapolis trains were supposed to have been designed for 140 km/h max. This obviously never happened. What is your opinion of the 80's and Lonie Report era for VIC? I'm sure for a lot of industry closing all lines would have been a disaster, the passenger service issue is a bit more open to debate and I get the strong impression of disinformation on both sides. There was a bus company that wanted to run to Warburton for example. I really don't know what I'm talking about haven't done deep research in to it tbh.
@@acesretroonline it's a bigger issue than can be answered here. Standard gauge across the whole state may have saved a few lines but I don't think it would have been a saviour. The car/truck culture in the 1960's through the 1970's and beyond had a big part in it. Successive governments policies etc. It is a big job now to try to bring freight back but will never be what it was. Passenger has benefited from positive government policy in Victoria over the last number of years and has grown again quite considerably. 👍😀
Whoa! That's a long trip from Hamilton to Southern Cross Stations almost 5 hours!! Anyway, I sat and watched UA-cam for train travel and also that's amazing! Your speed is 160 km/h? 😉👌🚄
Enjoying the trip now, this loco owns the Wimmera. The Mildura line would be a good one,l know it's freight, and don't know if any heritage trains head up there
It was decided the standard gauge should take the route it took due to the steep hills the line via Ballarat ecounters between Bacchus Marsh and Ballarat. 👍😀
@@geoff825 haha, no. There is a bit of flat country out there compared to some other lines around the state. The interstate corridor was chosen to be this route due to having less grades. A little longer but a lot flatter from Ararat in to Melbourne than the previous route via Ballarat. 👍😊
Now I know how far my dad had to travel far our five hours is insane Look it would be good to expand the vline train network to these places again Horsham Mildura
This is pretty good but you need to change the camera position from time to time. Let us see the window frame and the inside of the cab. Give us a side view now and then. Looking directly out the front all the time gets very monotonous.
Trainees and rail companies watch these also. They need to see the track ahead to aid their training, etc. I don't show the controls due to security concerns. 👍😊

Love that dual gauge stuff as you get closer to Melbourne 😄
A left over from our forefathers with the choice of different gauges 👍😊

The next crossing predicts how quick the train is going. The driver should not increase speed from that board to the crossing. 👍😊

Yes, they can head up there. Glad you enjoyed the ride on this locomotive 😀👍
How kms between Horsham Melbourne via Geelong on railway to Adelaide
there appears to be a more direct route from Ballarat to Melbourne, why doesn't it go that way instead of via Geelong?
It was decided the standard gauge should take the route it took due to the steep hills the line via Ballarat ecounters between Bacchus Marsh and Ballarat. 👍😀
When you mention a station like 'Ashens' and there is nothing there, does that mean its a station that was there or that will be there in the future?
It's a station that was there at one point in the past. 👍😊
Which class of loco is the lead locomotive in video
S307 was leading with C501 behind it 👍😊
Wat was the speed of the train in this video
The maximum speed of this train is 115kph 👍😊
So what becomes of this train once it arrives in Melbourne?
It runs back to Seymour to it's depot till the next run 👍😊
What speed are you doing 115 kph?
Yes, maximum speed of 115kph. 👍😀
Flat and straight almost all the way. I drove up there to see the pink lake. It took ages. Almost nothing most of the way.
