Wonderful ride, very enjoyable as well as informative. All you saw was a great deal of wonderful greenery and how clean and beautiful the people there maintain it. Some RR crossings, no roads or highways are seen here, no major cities are seen here as well. Great Video again very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing. I am in the United States looking in at your wonderful country.
I enjoyed this cab ride immensely. It was so nice to be able to hear the natural sounds. So many videos on railways and especially aviation videos these days mute all sounds in favour of music. Nice scenic route which I'm well familiar with.
Having lived near Chichester for ten years and still having family there; I can't tell you how many times I've travelled this line from Gatwick/Heathrow etc. First time I've seen it from the cab. Many thanks.
What a superb video! A real work of art poetic in its simplicity. The late summer afternoon/evening sky is sufficient for illumination whilst the light reflected off the sea strengthens as we head south. Am I the only person to find it hard to believe this video is shot in the most densely populated area of the UK? The landscape seem so remote and empty. Glad to see, or rather hear, that there is no "musical" accompaniment. Much better to hear the natural soundtrack plus informative captions. Looking forward to more such gems.
I worked in West Sussex for the same company for over 41 years. My area(s) were between Sussex, Hampshire & Kent. I lived / live in Chichester, and worked / passed through Horsham, Billingshurst, Amberly and pretty much all of the places on this route. It was really great, to see this route via the railway, really well shot video. Many thanks for posting, will look out for more if they become available. 👍
Thanks for the video. It’s nice to travel the route at a speed that lets us view more! The substations on this route, since the closure of Havant ECR.. .are now controlled by Eastleigh ECR and the old SR brickwork style (without the cement coating) seems to blend into the background much easier than the prefabricated subs on the Bournemouth route. Thanks for the memories! Incidentally, when my wife and I were returning home to Bournemouth from Budapest on the Railjet service to the new Vienna West station (it’s huge!) several years ago, I noticed a convoy of around 20 brand new Plasser machines travelling together like a long caterpillar on their way to the PT factory...perhaps on test?). Pity we didn’t have time to visit the factory this time, especially as it’s so close to Wien West. My regards, Rob.
All the substations on this route are controlled by Brighton. Eastleigh ECO only takes over from Emsworth on the Sussex/Wessex border. I didn’t know there used to be an ECO at Havant though - very interesting!
I walk my dogs in the field with the 4 trees on the LHS at 29.28, always hear the screach of the train wheels as they round the curves at the junctions
Thank you so much for the video it’s perfect .this is how it should be done please can we have more of the same station names and crossings I take my hat off to you
So, I left you at Woking, grabbed a bus to Horsham because I was in the neighborhood, and rode down to Littlehampton with.... you! I love that Arun trip.
Brings back memories - I now live in Atlanta but grew up in Horsham, we used to get the train to Littlehampton as a day out - trains look better now! not beat up British rail carriages where you had to wind down the window to get at the door handle which was outside - thanks
First time I've seen your vlogs. just subbed. It's a long time since I used to rattle and spark back and to between Waterloo and Portsmouth as a passenger!
Hey emmo999, blessed thanks for uploading this and all your other railway cab view videos. I would be interested please to see a few more railway routes in southeast England have cab views filmed and uploaded onto UA-cam: 1. Caterham via Kenley and through East Croydon. 2. Epsom Downs to East Croydon. As at Thursday 6th January 2022, the only UA-cam cab ride I can see from Epsom Downs railway station was way back in August 1990. Please look into filming this route from Epsom Downs in the present time. 3. Brighton via Lewes, Polegate, Eastbourne and Bexhill to Hastings. 4. Haywards Heath via Plumpton to Lewes. 5. And please film some railway cab view videos of the London Overground routes. 6. The Heathrow Express route through all Heathrow terminals meeting the West Coast Main Line and to London Paddington. Cheers emmo999 in advance for filming and uploading any or hopefully all of these 6 railway routes as driver's cab view rides. ❤🙏
This was wonderful although I could hear a loose screwdriver rattling in a tin😉. Lovely to see our English countryside as opposed to the German videos where every single flat surface is plastered with spray paint. Most unsavoury.
emmo999 haha...no don’t, we love to hear all the sounds....part of the experience. Many thanks for posting. Have subscribed so look forward to lots more rattling. Be good to actually see the tamper in action. D👍
Interesting thanks, they have resignalled Amberley since I was last down there, is Arundel & Littlehampton planned to be absorbed into Three Bridges soon?
Apparently not! When I learned Littlehampton, I asked the signaller about their future and they said there are currently zero plans for their replacement. So they have security for a few more years at least
I don’t think it sees enough freight/plant to justify upgrade until truly necessary. The 75mph that passenger units are allowed to cross at covers 99% of traffic
That’s the vigilance. It goes off every minute and relies on the driver lifting his foot off a pedal and placing it down again. It’s the trains way of checking the driver is alert and awake. Failure to respond means the emergency brakes come on
@@emmo999 sorry I should have clarified, not the DVD, but every now and again there would be one beep, different to the repetitive nature of the DVD until it is reset. 9:06 is an example

There’s no real towns seen along this route, although there’s a fair few level crossings. Glad you enjoyed it

Thank you for your comments. I have a dusk recording already made (when I came straight back out of Littlehampton) and more recordings planned

A very enjoyable trip down the Arun Valley! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the feedback
Hello from down under (sydney australia) nice scenic journey thanks for posting, cheer's bob.
Thanks for watching!
Got lost for a while there but glad to see the semaphores still at Littlehampton. (I moved on to Central Trains)
I need to re-record this line in better light. It’s quite scenic along the Arun valley
An evening trip to the sea through England's green and pleasant land. Lovely!
Your machine has a flat tyre :)
Yes it did!
And yes, definitely green and very pleasant around here. The Arun Valley line is stunning

The Arun Valley is a lovely line. My latest upload is just “processing” - should hopefully be visible in an hour or two

Those older units had a certain charm to them, though! Glad you enjoyed the video
I built a block of flats in Horsham back in 1986.
First time I've seen your vlogs. just subbed. It's a long time since I used to rattle and spark back and to between Waterloo and Portsmouth as a passenger!
Thank you! Glad you like it. I have two more videos recorded. They need editing, captioning, etc and I get them uploaded
Thank you, I do miss Sussex.
You a former resident then? Certainly a pretty county
I remember years ago that there was a plan to merge Littlehampton with Southampton and make one fooking great hampton.
Hi I worked for a firm at Horsham Chipmans , they did the banking work on the rail. l enjoy the vid, hope there will be more
Yes, I have more already filmed, but not around the Horsham area
Amazing videos mate keep them coming I have watched all your videos you driving the tamper train maybe can do a Tour on the tamper if possible
Not many seats on a machine. And there’s no at seat trolley service I’m afraid 😂
Ok mate will you be doing more videos soon
Superb quality as ever
Thanks Mark
Love these videos btw
Thank you. I do try to keep them informative and as interesting as possible

I will see what I can do. Some of those are a lot easier than others
Just discovered your channel. I'm going to check out your other great videos.ps I'm from Australia.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. Plenty more videos planned for the future
Time for a thameslink meme. Here it goes;
Manufacturer: How many coaches should your thameslink train have?
Thameslink: *yes*
Great video, such a shame that the lovely signal box at Horsham is no longer used
Sadly, that’s the case with a lot of the old Art Deco boxes. Woking is another
Another good video to watch,,are the semaphores and signal box still in use at Littlehampton?
Amazingly yes. But I understand those at Littlehampton and Bognor are on borrowed time now
Great stuff, not seen a cab ride in a tamper before. All that rattling adds great atmosphere but seems not much creature comforts for the driver.
They’re certainly more functional than luxurious! 😂
Thanks for quick reply .Yes zi noticed the caption about viaducts but whay about those at 23.13? Noticed them often
To the best of my knowledge that’s just a small stream/river crossing. Not aware of a name
This was wonderful although I could hear a loose screwdriver rattling in a tin😉. Lovely to see our English countryside as opposed to the German videos where every single flat surface is plastered with spray paint. Most unsavoury.
Some of the machines do have some pretty loud rattles. Trust me, if I could have stopped it, I would 😂
emmo999 haha...no don’t, we love to hear all the sounds....part of the experience. Many thanks for posting. Have subscribed so look forward to lots more rattling. Be good to actually see the tamper in action. D👍
I’m working on that video too.... 😉
Hi 👋 are you doing any more videos like this?
Yes, sorry, I have quite a bit recorded, I’ve just struggled for time to get them sorted for UA-cam
great vid thank you, what are the two red lights between the tracks just before pulbrough-arundel.
That’s a subsidiary signal, used for shunting on the crossover. Same as the very first signal the train sits behind
@@emmo999 thankyou very much.
So there’s no direct service from Guildford to Horsham??
Hasn’t been for about 50 years since the Cranleigh line was removed
Interesting thanks, they have resignalled Amberley since I was last down there, is Arundel & Littlehampton planned to be absorbed into Three Bridges soon?
Apparently not! When I learned Littlehampton, I asked the signaller about their future and they said there are currently zero plans for their replacement. So they have security for a few more years at least
Just watched the video, and I echo the comment about speed so that we can see more. Just one question - do all tampers have wheel flats?
There aren’t any flats on this one! 😂 It’s just noisy rattles
This is my first video of yours I have watched, What does AHB stand for?
Automatic Half Barrier
It is the type of level crossing
Is the line of enough value to beef up that bottleneck viaduct? Love your vids.
I don’t think it sees enough freight/plant to justify upgrade until truly necessary. The 75mph that passenger units are allowed to cross at covers 99% of traffic
What do these tamper units do?
They tamp the track - ie reduce the dips and kinks that form in the track over time as the ballast settles
Ah ok that’s interesting to know
What's the beeping sound (not the AWS)?
That’s the vigilance. It goes off every minute and relies on the driver lifting his foot off a pedal and placing it down again. It’s the trains way of checking the driver is alert and awake. Failure to respond means the emergency brakes come on
