  • the Columbus Downtown Development Corp. released a 65-page report on a plan for the next 10 years,
so let’s talk about What downtown Columbus going to look like in the future.
Maybe it will become a toxic wasteland completely abandoned for our fully immersive VR rigs…
But, In the case that Ernest cline was wrong and that doesn’t come to pass,
downtown boosters are boldly planning for a scenario where Columbus is a utopia of seamless transportation, shopping, dining, and entertainment. With a lot more people-
The goal is 40,000 downtown residents by the year 2040 (compared to only 11,200 today).
The third and final public meeting to map out the next decade of downtown is already in the books. And now, the Columbus Downtown Development Corp. will complete a full draft plan (slated for September) and present it to City Council.
Some other items on the wishlist: More retail, bikes, and buses. Fewer surface lots. More activation along the river, some new pedestrian bridges, and, apparently, bluer water.
I’m going to dive into more detail on the 65-page plan between now and September.
But I’m curious, What would you most like to see?
