    Crime is in fact, #1. We need more manufacturing and we need better low cost homes, not apartments, we need a local team to come together and start flipping these old homes and not doubling or tripling the price on them. The bottoms needs to be completely redone and it needs to be done by people who care about the communities and not people who care about share holders. There is no reason a house that a house bought it 2002 for $40,000 gets flipped in 2022 and sold for $180,000. It’s barely 1,000 sq ft, that is ridiculous. A young family needed to be able to buy that home for $110,000 to $120,000 max. You want to help eliminate this crime and poverty, bring more blue collar jobs and renovate these homes and sell them to young families at reasonable prices. This corporate out of state bullshit happening here needs to stop and it’s up to us to do it. And fix Columbus Public Schools, shit is disgraceful. Some of these schools don’t even have proper AC. Our local government should be ashamed.

    • @LivingtheColumbusWay
      @LivingtheColumbusWay  Рік тому +1

      Sadly the school thing won't get fixed with more money in my opinion. They need to get more efficient at spending what they have. Columbus City spends more per kid than Dublin schools/year--how can that be? There does seem to be a huge need for more people to fill those blue collar jobs. I think we are just entering manufacturing 2.0 here. Time will tell!

    Great video Andy! Every time I watch your videos it makes me want to come and visit Columbus. One comment. I think Columbus should find one thing that they are ¨known for and that would make Columbus more of a destination place. I think you have a great personality and you should get involved in the Chamber of Commerce and come up with something. Maybe Columbus could be a the Biking Capital, Tiny Home Capital, or maybe get some kind of Festival that grows to be the biggest of its kind in the US--something that would really put Columbus on the map and make people want to visit and/or move there. I have confidence that you and others like you could get together and figure something out. It would be nice if Columbus could outgrow some of its current perceptions.

    • @buckeyes329
      @buckeyes329 Рік тому +1

      Great comment, I've been saying this same thing for years. We have a branding issue as a city. The local restaurant scene could communicate and hash out a food of some sort that we could become known for. If many got involved and started making their version, then I think it would catch on. (I'd suggest Johnny Marzetti since there is a bit of a history of it here in Columbus). Think of Chicago and their deep dish pizza that people try while in town or Philadelphia and their cheese steaks)
      Also another thing that would be helpful would be some sort of iconic structure - think like the Space Needle in Seattle or the Arch in St Louis. Just my thoughts on needed things to help our image.

Live Denver, the suburbs are much nicer than the city. Because of the Ohio State campus, there are different types of entertainment compared to Denver. • @adnanomeragic9597

    transportation is such a glossed over issue. Traffic may not be horrendous now, but in a few years if LinkUs doesn't do anything, the terrible land usage coupled with auto dependency will lead down to that of your San Francisco's and other west coast cities, for example. People will get priced out and affordability will go out the window as it's already starting to rear its head. Transportation + land usage are the next biggest issues in our american cities. Columbus is unique as it is growing at a rapid rate, and it ABSOLUTE NEEDS to accept that the car experiment has failed and needs to be over if it truly wants to succeed. But I feel like it's not going to, or not at a fast enough pace, making it a terrible city to move to for your children. Chicago all the way.

    I recently traveled from Columbus up north to Toledo. Traveling on 23 route is horrible . There’s no interstate to travel north except I 71. Going through all those traffic light and speed traps slowed down your traveling time. I have to travel to Delaware on 71 to get pass all those traffic lights on 23. Also the greyhound terminal is non existent, very bad for travelers coming to Columbus. Rent is very high and for those price, you’re not getting any amenities for the price . Columbus seems to forgot the low income housing as they developed the housing market in the city. Why is no train terminal in Columbus? Columbus is located in the center of the state. Why isn’t there passenger train rails to connect to the major cities in Ohio.? Lastly I think it would be nice if Columbus could have another professional sports league, besides the Columbus Bluejackets and the Columbus Crew. I know Columbus have the OSU sports, but a professional basketball team would be awesome. Columbus supports its sports leagues and city this size could support a NBA team and support college football at the same time.

    • @LivingtheColumbusWay
      @LivingtheColumbusWay  Рік тому

      23 is one of those bottleneck areas and is thick with traffic basically from 270/23 all the way North of Deleware. Greyhound terminal downtown is getting reimagined and Amtrak service is something the Governor said they are working on. I did a whole vid on Columbus public transit and plan to do follow up vids. We need better public transit in the worst way. All those benefits to travel are solely for those with a car currently.

    When I lived there during the 90's there was NO good employment opps for me. I constantly had to take a lot of bottom of the barrel crap type jobs through temp agencies. Not all of them were labor intensive. But the good ones, were temp. So I had to constantly keep looking for stable work. It just became too much. Looking for work & keeping a decent job, & making any kind of money was harder than some of the jobs. And anything I applied to outside of a temp agency saw all my skills & abilities, & refused to hire me, because I was OVERqualified for the starter job openings they offered! I couldn't afford a place of my own, nor could I even scrape together enough money to pay my half living with someone, so I was forced to return to Cincinnati. At least the sun shines more & longer here. Ohio has been hard. And this city isn't any better, except it has a better view of the city from across the river, & from the surrounding hills. Crime has gotten worse here, but that seems to be everywhere. The only things I really liked are how it's almost impossible to get lost in Columbus, as most major streets run north, south. east, west. Not here in Cincy. Even being from Cincy, I still get lost! Because the hills & roads & communities here are so congested, the only way to figure it out is with a compass, or a place that's been sitting in the same spot for decades to use as landmarks. Even GPS will run you off a cliff or into a creek, or fence, or a house, or some other barrier around here if you're not careful! And, I should say how much better the Cincy Zoo is, but, it isn't. Because of the constrictive containment of everything choking land space, from hills that can turn into major rock slides, they keep tearing down old Victorian homes in the surrounding neighborhood to build bigger. I'm not young enough to make it around all the have, up & down, & around the hills to see everything in the short time period of the days they are open. Columbus is open, not restrictive, easy to navigate, & see the lay of the land/where things are. Not hidden by so much brush & whatever else keeps being built up here. It's like meandering through a jungle maze, trying to find certain animal exhibits. It wasn't that annoying when I was a kid though. Now that I'm older, there's less things designed to help older people enjoy the things they did when younger. And the buses in Columbus are as bad as the buses here. Buses should make things easier, but they don't. If you can't walk far, or stand for too long, & don't have a good running vehicle to use, you're screwed. And, even if there were some things to do in Columbus; most of it was boring. And yeah. That whole focus on football there is very, VERY annoying. TEN YEARS I survived with the whole damned city catering to OSU football ALL YEAR AROUND was to the point of being obnoxious.

    It's horrible living in Columbus Ohio, neighbors don't care if you get robbed and the robbers even come to the "Nice" areas because a majority of the time it means soft targets with money. They tried to rob me twice in German Village, one time just straight up threating my life upfront. The only thing your neighbors care about is if you are doing something they don't like, that's it.

    Actually, Columbus USED to be the test market place for food. Not so much anymore. People have been choosing places like Dayton and the state of Indiana and every other place but here. The sad truth is that more often than not we've been passed over on this privilege lately.

    To qualify myself, moved here in 78 and did industrial controls. Needless to say every small town now instead of having steel and glass has heroin and fentanyl. For a lot of people It's the silicon hateland. Until this area pushes out the hillbillies there is a lot of work to be done. Progress brings progressives. But when women are literally being chased to the border to get their healthcare, it's not anything special; it's actually something horrific. And it's something that we need to clean up. The corruption of the current administration is right there for people to see. Ask yourself if you really want to come here, but I hope you bring your progressive views for all of us to make this place what it used to be.
