at basic training in july 1968 when we were qualifying with the M-16 the kid next to me was shooting at my target as was i and when they brought the targets up to count the hits mine was loaded with way to many holes and his had none. he caught hell and so did i and it was get down and give me 20 for both and then the whole flight.
i dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I was dumb forgot my login password. I love any tips you can offer me.
@Jett Gunnar Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
The first versions of the m16 issued to troops in the field in Vietnam. Don't have the crome lining in the barrel and the hi humidity and dirt quickly built up along with that dirty powder that ball ammo used were the perfect recipe for epic weapon failures we all know about that occurred over there I saw the story of the m16 on history channel
The forward bolt assist on my M-16s in 1969/70 never worked to clear a jam. I invariably had to break the rifle down and field strip it to get it unjammed.
lol, each gooker stops in the clearing to be shot at " hey GI! you see ok? we not moving target now, we each do it, stand here long time, you go boom boom" or was it "love me long time "? in that case use a rubber.
M203 grenade launcher m 16 was issued as well as 45 cal pistol and 81 mm motor and as forward observer carried a radio , the 45 postal was to not hit motor while setting it to Aiming stakes or direct target like in Arctic conditions were maps are useless and just have to aim site to target ,, then the ammunition m16 203 grenades and more, 5.56 magazine 30 to 60 rounds if you tape them upside down flip the magazine , smoke assorted, 45 lb radio Pr 73 standard radio pack with spare batteries, food personal winter gear / jungle / Arctic jackets boots snow and ski and slay harness to pull large 10 man tents 5 gal gas arctic stove water and extra winter bags inner sleeping bags more 81 motor rounds and weeks food for 10 people and not break a sweat in the -13 hot day to - 93 with wind shear Force Arctic winds January to February for Arctic Raiders patch , but jungle school was much hotter more rust on everything almost in hours time , its more weight than people can carry so many just dropped gear as they started to die until they just fell into the snow to die , it was their time mentally and physically, in jungle you just drop into a large spike needle tree 4 inch covered ,, black palm tree, or have viper attack your face in a fraction of a second and never see it as the weight humidity and heat and days of dehydrated food 3 hours sleep if lucky per day 5 days on end some days no sleep and walk all day water may be used up quickly and just heat stroke and abuse of physical pain and existing conditions of bug bites wet clothing socks and bug bites constant , for Jungle Expert Badge and Expert infantry Badge , yes we need better ways to reduce weights To the troops as in time they like I will have Back problems and leg pains and neck and headaches allergies to exposure and frost bite pain in cold weather , and so forth not felt at the time of all the work at a younger age so much damage is done as infantry man that the grenade and fragments of deflected munitions burning holes in clothing if your lucky that that is all , or jumping out of helicopter that shoots up because he thinks he's getting hit by rounds and end up falling out at even higher altitudes than expected and so forth , printing with new metals on computers will bring back the power to protect troops who are defending country's , who do not wish to hear about anyone getting hurt unless its battle related ,, its all battle related and it takes one who has done that to know without question. I feel in ten years these old films will make the new weapons look like these old ones that , are used today , we need more grenade launching m16 or the m 203 as we called them light and functional with bigger hitting explosive rounds to help the enemy find his death faster if that is what he is looking for .
Many of the early M16 variants, including the USAF ones of the time, had chrome-plated bolt carriers. bpullignwolnet.dotster.com/retroblackrifle/ModGde/RflGde/604.html
Thanks, haha. Actually I found that out about an hour after posting my comment. However I didn't know 3/4ths of the stuff on the site you linked... that's a very cool page. Also calls out my home state with those AF field exercise photos at the bottom.
Why did you add assault in the UA-cam title. The training film did NOT refer to the M16 rifle anywhere in the film as an assualt rifle, in fact it clearly referred to it as a defense weapon.
Where as the m16 was designed to replace the m14 and for Vietnam, and Vietnam being a "POLICE ACTION" (US Government definition not mine) therefore it is a defensive weapon. Nuff said.
Nowhere in the training film does it refer the M16 rifle as being an assualt rifle, and at no time during my service was it referred to as anything other than a M16 rifle
M-16 is not an assault rifle. I never saw (in 26 years of AF time) a TSgt in the chow hall. I thought SSgt was the top grade. A lot of 20 year SSgts. Freezes from the 50s and early 60s. AF personnel system is one of the worst in the world.
The M-16 isn't an assault rifle. An assault rifle is any rifle used to commit the crime of assault.. The M-16 is literally just a small caliber hunting rifle setup to fire full auto (at that time).
That cook at the beginning was really proud of his chief’s hat, just wear it under the helmet!
My Grandpa was in the Air Force when they first debuted the M16. It was known as the 601 back then.
USA STRONG how is that funny?
the 601 was my first rifle in the USAF
Good old times. I miss my m16a1!
I got a Troy GAU 5A as my only rifle- feels like an old friend!
Go bulid a retro ar-15 with a parts kit.
Gotta love the three prong flash hider givinf off that distinctive ping sound.
Went through Lackland July, 65. At that time we were being trained with the M1 carbine.
My father was there at that time. He started BMT just after his HS graduation in 1965. M1 carbines and Pith helmets.
Hey Leonard I went through Lackland July '65 also. I was in Flight 751 and our first TI was Sgt. Ventry. I got out 6 months early 20 Dec 1968.
You can hear the tuning fork ring after each shot 😂
You can hear it if you shut the bolt on an empty chamber. Just not as loud.
i remember hearing the spring in the stock.
Here I am with a smith vortex on an 11.5 hearing that same “ring a ling a dinga ding dong ding.
it was the first debut M16 by the US air force unit
I love the audio sound of the M16 being fired at the beginning of the video. Its like "pweeshooow pweeshooow pweeshooow".
M16 Assault Rifle - note that is NOT "AR-15 Assault Rifle."

I had a lot of trouble lining up on my target. I don't doubt I gave my neighbors a couple of holes in their targets.
Nice “waist weld” with that telescopic sight, there flattop frank.
When I went thru BT back in Aug.1979. We only got to shoot the M-16 once. It had a .22 adapter . I did get a score of 100 and a small arms ribbon.
Looks older than 67
Yeah, they are using the waffle mags they replaced by then.
..seriously so...
MILITARY
if you miss your m16, then get an ar15
Interesting that in some shots you see them using the old waffle-pattern magazines.
i dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..?

@Arian Quentin instablaster ;)

@Jett Gunnar It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out !
@Arian Quentin Happy to help :D
That chicken wing tho. 🤣
i remember the first M-16 i shot did not have the forward assist button like those in the film.
..the forward assist was only added on the A1 version..on the.insistance.of the Army..
@@cbroz7492 ok, i remember that and the .223 ammo.
The first versions of the m16 issued to troops in the field in Vietnam. That magazine catch though.
..theseguys have the early chromed bolts...
I want some KFC after watching this.
There is no “assault” in the nomenclature of the M-16
At least someone else got that right !!!
It's the cooks shooting at the AP's........
notice, no forward assist.old school rifle
The forward bolt assist on my M-16s in 1969/70 never worked to clear a jam. I invariably had to break the rifle down and field strip it to get it unjammed.
until the Air Force standardized on the army version they didn't have forward assists
Gene Stoner who designed the AR15 said it was not needed.
Pretty sure that's Clooney at 2:26.
I don't remember seeing that film.
..looking those original waffle pattern mags!!!!
no forward assist on af models...
Had me at accuracy of a sniper rifle also where to get that bipod?
..we had them.available in basic..Ft Dix summer 1971..
what model of scope is that?

I notice the shiny bolt carriers. No phosphate finish. Were the originals chrome-lined everywhere? Nickel plated? Anyone know?
Many of the early M16 variants, including the USAF ones of the time, had chrome-plated bolt carriers.

80s some rifles had chrome bolts then replaced

Yup, REMF's got shot at too! RVN. Old lesson's, return. Same shit, another generation!
who added "assault rifle" to the title? Rediculous.
Actually, in the selective fire M16 the term is correct... in the case of my semi XM 15, it is not.. Auto fire makes the difference..
Where as the m16 was designed to replace the m14 and for Vietnam, and Vietnam being a "POLICE ACTION" (US Government definition not mine) therefore it is a defensive weapon. Nuff said.
It not an Assault Rifle or weapon and you are allowed in military training or service to refer to it as an assault rifle.
Nowhere in the training film does it refer the M16 rifle as being an assualt rifle, and at no time during my service was it referred to as anything other than a M16 rifle

You is a goofball.
the term assault rifle is not used in the US military. That is some cooked up civilian term. Try service rifle.
Sure, next try telling us that the 9mm Bullet doesn’t “Blow The Lung Out of The Body”!
Out of a chipmunk maybe lol😂
It never was an "assault" rifle. Assault is a type of behavior.
It had that classification for intermediate cartridge, shoulder fired rifle/carbine, with selector switch capable of full auto fire.
Wtf are you talking about ?
