- More than 70 years have passed since the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp. More than a million people were murdered. With “Inside Auschwitz” the WDR presents the first ever global 360° project realised in Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, Philomena Franz and Walentyna Nikodem are three survivors of the holocaust. Guided by their stories and with the aid of a 360 ° drone users can experience the huge dimensions of Auschwitz.

Being able to move the camera scared the shit out of me
Ohhh me too! I literally felt like I was there! I can't imagine standing in the bitter cold, naked, from 4 AM to 4PM in the middle of December in a Concentration Camp. I can't imagine leaving that little girl behind because I had to go to work detail. I can't imagine knowing she ended up in a Gas Chamber before I probably arrived at my work detail! The 1 woman was right when she said "Why did the Nazi's go insane?" This was hatred mixed with insanity. This was pure criminal insanity! I can't even imagine any of this!

Damn being able to move the camera and look around all over the place freaked me out too I didn’t realize it was an option. At first I was thinking Man whoever is running the camera on this video needs to check their skills and then I realized I’m the one that sucks it gives it the whole video a whole other layer of terrible
Yeah. It is that UA-cam 360VR video. They have this thing you can move camera around like you are there. Scary. Just put search word UA-cam 360 on search bar.
I really wish more of the camp was preserved. The Polish government really shouldn't let this place go, it should serve as a reminder to the rest of the world.
as a polish person, i agree. i think it is vital for us to not forget what happened. yes it has bad past, but it is still major historical event
I’m not A Jew or Polish but I understand how much this means to all. And I think you’re right. They should. Those places is a reminder of how vile and unexplainable war was to all of you. And that reminder should stick. Of how those who survive and not suffered. And how good of of it, it was for those who didn’t have to expect this!

What amazes me the most is how these monsters can go home at the end of the day to a wife and family as though they were returning from an honest day's work. They had to be satanically possessed.

We went to an exhibition at Imperial War Museum , London of the Camps...It was grim.
Visitors were very quiet, noticeably so, compared to similar sized exhibitions.
Seeing a small proportion of the items owned by the interned people was deeply poignant. Tin cups bashed beyond belief, tiny medicine bottles, and shoes.
A pair of red shoes, belonging to a delicate footed young woman, probably a teenager..Someone of Anne Frank's age, perhaps?..
Sadly hatred and ''Othering'' takes place today. Religious/racial/political differences...Do we ever learn {As a society} from past atrocities?

No. While it's comforting to think we can disassociate ourselves from the type of people who could commit such terrors by using such terms as "evil" "possessed" "demonic", they were simply human with all the same human frailties and dark parts of the soul where survival at all costs is at the forefront of all considerations. Were they great people? Hell no but removing the fact that they were human also removes them a step further from being something from which we can learn. If we can't or won't learn from human atrocities - by not admitting that there was nothing of the supernatural involved nor was there anything genetically abnormal (for the most part) about Nazi's then how on earth can we learn enough to NOT have it happen again?
@@apollyon_616 That's a stupid thing to say... Everyone has their choice/agency. You can't blame anyone else but the person who committed these atrocities. Blaming God for their sins is like me blaming your parents for something you've done. They had nothing to do with the actual act of sinning. Although they may have raised you right, you still chose to be the person you are.

I went here back in February with my school walking up I couldn’t see how large it but when I got close to the front gate I could see all the way down the fences and see how large the place really was

I can't imagine it not being a haunted place. The tower of London has nothing on this place when it comes to horror, tragedy and absolute sadistic tyranny. Another image that I can't help imagining is the torment and torture of the beasts in the afterlife who perpetrated these monstrous acts and knowing that this will be visited upon them for eternity. A small degree of comfort but still unsettling to understand the ongoing suffering of everyone who experienced or participated in this vile episode of history.

Maybe. So many Jews have been murdered inside that slaughterhouse that their spirits probably still wander around Auschwitz.

I actually went to Auschwitz last year... I had a tour there.
It was horrible! There was barely any time to check things out.

You know why I can't go to Auschwitz because I don't know how to speak fluent German in Polish cuz I can see the Dead and communicate with the Dead. I am what you call a Ghost Whisperer.

I also visited. It was a harrowing experience, and I got to walk out of that hateful place. I was there for just a few hours. Those poor innocent people. The nastis were a huge, vile hate machine.

Thank you for sharing this story. I will never understand how the Nazi's could be so cold and heartless to innocent people and children. I can not even imagine the fear that they endured.
It's not just the Nazis who are so bad. So many countries have committed genocide. I always find it frightening that this fact has been forgotten in so many countries.

Abhorrent simply abhorrent what happened both here, across many sites in Poland and across many countries in Europe during WW2 how can humans be so cruel to one another. We need to learn from this terrible scar on humankind and keep learning even now. RIP to the many many victims of these horrific crimes in humbled by your bravery till the end ❤️

Living in this "world" today, (no matter what's going on) nothing can compare to what they had to go thru in there life back then!! A great deal of respect, esp. to the survivors!!!!! xo

This was incredible. I have seen a lot of pictures and videos of Auschwitz before. However none of them captured the enormous size of this place like your video does. I wish the video was longer than 10 minutes. Do you have plans to go back in the future and make a longer video? This really is incredible. I watched on my Oculus.

I can't see why this would have dislikes... Hopefully people not realizing this is a 360 video and thinking that the camera angles are bad.
I just cannot imagine how the rest of the world turned a blind eye to this while it was happening. This is absolutely horrific and exposes how evils human can be. We were not born like this
Turned a blind eye? lol? Do you have no knowledge of history? No one even knew about the camps until 1945. Supposedly there were rumors but it's not like any of the allies knew and just did nothing lol

This gave me goosebumps. It is horrifying to imagine what the Germans did to those people.
I just booked my tickets to Auschwitz for next week to have a look myself of this truly terrible place. We should never forget what happened there to prevent future generations committing those crimes yet again.

Absolutely gut wrenching, heartbreaking and mind numbing that something like this could go on for so many years without any intervention from other countries. Shame on the rest of the world for standing around and watching for so many years. #neverforget Thankfully today we have so much technology and social media and bad news spreads very fast so anything like this would end before it could ever get started. Prayers and love for anyone who had to go through this or knew of someone that did.
Social media also has given a platform for holocaust deniers. It also has enabled someone like Trump to become president of the US, which is proving to be a disaster.
@@danstrayer111 Sadly yeah but its more than just social media as these deniers have been around long before social media existed. Trump on the other hand is a different animal, but to his credit he has done a hell of a lot more in support of Israel with foreign policy than Obama ever did. Not saying Trump is good or a success by any means, but this is one area he has done well with.

You are right. I think Churchill knew, that escapees from Europe were getting to Britain and being silenced because their news was inconvenient. The US was still sitting on its hands and the French and rolled over.
Flying above and seeing the scale is eye opening to be sure. The site should be forever owned by all those that died there and in all the other camps.
I've been born and raised in Poland. Have live abroad for 14 years now. I have never been to Auschwitz. I read a book called The Medallions when I was 14. A Polish journalist wrote it just after the camp was liberated. I do want to go but I think I would make such an impact I'm not sure I could cope with.
i went a few years back was so upset i just stay in the autswitz part and didnt contiue the tour. well it they had locked the gates with me and my partner the only people inside. . that was the most scared ive ever been in my life

@@rcv0 late at night as in.. Late for it being opened lol i think it was about 5 maybe pushing 6.30pm it was pitch black at that time this was mid November... So glad i wasn't alone as i have someone who was there and can back up the story 100%😂 strangely enough a security guard in a sykiway if thats how you spell it let us out ill edit. My comment anyhow because i understand that sounds like im trying to say we got locked in late at night thats not what i meant by that... Anyway way to this day the most terrified ive ever been

One of my friends in NZ found out at 48 years old that he was adopted. That was shock enough. Then he found out his true ancestors were Jewish Germans who all died in Auschwitz. He went there to visit twice and he said it was traumatic. He said you could feel the death everywhere and that there were no birds.........
I was bought up in a prison community. The prison psychologist was an inmate of Buna prison in Poland.

I started to cry within the first five seconds itself. The horrors, inhumanity, fear, madness, brutality, and the evilness of everyday life that millions of innocent Jews had to face at the hands of these inhumane and brutal murderers are simply unimaginable. No one ever could have thought before Auschwitz that humans would stoop to such extreme levels just to kill other humans. Getting up at 4 am, standing in the cold without clothes until 4 pm and then running without clothes in ice cold chillness on snow is horrifying to even think of. I can't even imagine how desperately many innocent Jews would have screamed, cried, and clawed at the gas chamber walls while being exposed to sarin gas . I can't even think of how those murderers could go back to their families at the end of the day, and eat and sleep peacefully as if they were doing some noble job. I am even more shocked that literally the rest of the world was just sitting back and watching doing nothing like Auschwitz was some type of comedy show. My sincere condolences go out to all the families who lost their loved ones in Auschwitz and my sincere prayers go to all the innocent Jews who lost their lives in Auschwitz. Rest In Peace.

ich bin fast 40 und ich hab wirklich viel über den zweiten weltkrieg gesehen und gehört... aber diese massen toilette bei 8:12 hat mich wirklich geschockt... hab noch nie was aus der zeit gesehen was so deutlich gemacht hat wie unmenschlich das alles war ohne blut oder gewalt!
The personal pain and sorrow I feel for these people, yes PEOPLE, were treated like objects. Dogs lived better. So overwhelming sometimes to think that other 'humans?' would do this to fellow human beings is .............

The saddest lesson I take from this atrocity is how ANY human mind can be conditioned to accept and become an agent of chaos and wickedness. Do not make the mistake of thinking you couldn't be.

We cry and suffer with you.y gosh how is it possible for one group if people to be so cruel.it is the most horrible and heartbreaking thing. I sometimes get tortured myself when I think of this horror my mother went thru Hitler's germany as a small child. I think she never. Could bring herself to face the reality that the Germans could do this
