I’m a descendant of George Washington Hill. He holds the record for the most Native American baptisms. He didn’t seek them out they came to him. They would ride into town looking for him. Upon meeting him they told him that they were sent by the Great White Chief. He was supposed to teach them more of the Gospel and baptize them. He asked them what the Great White Chief’s name was. He was informed that the Great White Chief didn’t say what his name was, only the he was cast into a fire 3 times and a den of wild beast twice and was not harmed. You may want to do a story on George Washington Hill.

Beautiful story re Sister Lee with her courage before the renegade Navajo. My ancestor Levi Stewart first bishop of Kanab. Levi was the first person to teach John D Lee in the gospel and later John D Lee and My Levi Stewart served as missionary companions on several occasions.
Notwithstanding the serious error and tragic events which Brother Lee fail into he contributed much to Zion and so has many of his descendants such as Senator Mike Lee, Soliticer General Rex D Lee and I also believe President Harold B Lee.
Excellent pioneer stories , inspiring re Jacob Hamlin missions to the Lamanites. Thank you

That was incredible. I live in the Yucatán peninsula among children of Lehi here also, and there are beautiful things that I have heard that have happened.
I don’t know of anything so direct as angelic messengers relaying that the Book of Mormon is their history, but there are ancient prophecies and special experiences that the natives here will say if they trust you.
One of which being angels in traditional attire visiting, asking for simple things, and then walking off and disappearing.

    Bonjour

Another fantastic and powerful lesson! I think it’s really cool how forward thinking the church was during those early days. Church leaders and members were largely very accepting and embracing of all people; Native Americans, black people, women, allowing for more participation in the church than other comparative churches during that time.
Of course, we have had our issues with this in subsequent years, but it strengthens my testimony to think about how the church was established and restored upon the principles of acceptance, belonging, and unity!

Thanks for sharing those wonderful stories of our native Americans. We can learn alot from their culture. Us Europeans seem to like to isolate ourselves alone in our homes with our machines. While the native culture enjoys doing their work together in a community on the reservation. The Jewish people in Israel have perfected that lifestyle on their kibbutzim.

I used to read a lot about the Buckskin Apostle. I went through his St George home probably over 20 years ago. He worked with a lot of tribes. The Hopi story is amazing. To this day, the Hopi reservation is still protected by the Navajo Tribe. The Hopi Reservation is within the Navajo Reservation on all four sides. Eventually he was killed by natives, I can't remember but I think it was Apache. It seemed like he started running into trouble after the Mountain Meadows Massacre that took place on his property even though he was not there and had agreed for the travellers to use the property. I think there was some loss of trust because of what those involved had said trying to blame the tribes. If I remember right, it seems that his problems after that with the natives were because of other members.

Are you talking about the Brigham Young who stopped the Relief Society for 20 years and said, "...When I want Sisters or the Wives of the members of the church to get up Relief Society I will summon them to my aid but until that time let hem stay at home & if you see Females huddling together veto the concern and if they say Joseph started it tell them it is a damned lie for I know he never encouraged it."
