This will be my third year shooting the Sevr’s. I’m trying the 1.75” this year. Shot a number of deer with the 2.0’s and had great blood trails. Definitely one of, if not the best mechanical broadheads. I also enjoy your podcasts with Dan Johnson as well. Good luck this season!
You need a piece of cardboard or something to mimic the hide! They always open on animals. I’ve been using them for 3 years now and they work flawlessly! This was a flawed test.
It will lock open every time on an animal! He needed something to mimic the hide to fully deploy and lock open the blades. You will never have that issue on game! If want to see the best tests go to lush archery and type in sevr 2.0 he does the most fair and thorough tests!
I've had enough of mechanical Broad heads, I switched to Iron will SB 150 grain. When mechanicals work right, they're great & when they don't, anxiety, long stressful track jobs, and opportunities lost.
@@austinphillips9966 My draw length is 28, Out of all the Bow Hunters I know, Nobody would Bet their Bow to shoot against me. If I were a piss poor shot, perhaps I would rely on rages 2 inch cuts to compensate for my lack of accuracy. Yes, that's me pointing out the lack of intelligence involved in suggesting I switched from larger cut diameter mechanicals, to much smaller single bevel fixed blades because I'm a piss poor shot!! That's Brilliant🙄
@@karmas.busdriver Gut shoot a deer with an ironwill and that will ruin your day. Come shoot against some of the guys I know and you will be buying a new bow.
@@miltonreeths522 Gut shooting a Deer with anything would ruin my day. Still your argument doesn't hold any weight. First you don't fix your lac of accuracy by using a 20mm grenade launcher instead of a .243 for Hunting Deer. LOL same thing with a Bow, If your guys are great archers, why use a 2" cut with reduced penetration & potential for mechanical failier, rather than a high quality broad head that really holds an edge. That makes no sense.
@@karmas.busdriver I think you need to explain that to Dudley, BEE, Bomer, Morgan and Waddel cause they all shoot big mechanicals. If you can't kill a deer with a good mechanical the iron will won't fix your problem. I wonder why iron will isn't the #1 selling head. A complete pass through with the arrow stuck in the ground, half of your KE is in the ground not the deer, makes no sense to me.
Good info I shoot the SEVR 2” titanium Ana the ironwill S125 I carry 3 Sevr and 2 iron will in my quiver for black bear and white-tail. Mostly shoot the sevr and use the ironwill for longer range backups if needed but so far haven’t had any 2nd shots
You need to use a slow motion camera and you'll see that those broadheads most likely did fully expand/deploy but then retracted as they came to a stop. Also obviously a 2" rage will have more resistance than a 1-3/4 wound channel so will create a wider cut but penetrate less.
Yes, I agree that the broadheads opened…as evidenced by the wound channel…I lit they don’t lock out as they should…that’s the issue. No slow mo cam necessary because in can see that they didn’t lock. That said, their wound channel is still larger than a fixed. Best of luck this season!
I have seen alot of video where that don't open perfectly on gel ...try putting like cardboard or something over the front then they will open right..the hide on a beer is alot stiffer than just jel..but cool video
Actually, I failed to show the cardboard at the front of the gel…it was also covered with gorilla tape to create some density/thickness. But regardless, the wound channel from a less than fully deployed expandable is still larger than a fixed… Thanks for watching. Best of luck this season!
New to bowhunting but not hunting. This is my first yr. After rabbit hole'n which rear deploy BH to use I picked the 100 grain Sevr2.0 shooting a Matthews DXT at 27" at 65# GT Hunter XT's 300 spine at 28" with a 100 grain brass insert and a Nocturnal lit nock puts me about 509 grains for total arrow weight with prolly 13-15 % FOC. Does this set up sound sufficient to shoot said BH at West Texas White tail and feral hogs? Thank you
@@HuntDetail thank you for the reply. Iv been told by the guy thats showing me the ropes (hes killed a ton of animals and been hunting all his life), hes the one i bought the DXT from says paper tuning is kinda ify at best because if you tourqe the bow in the slightest when shooting threw paper or have any deviation in technique that itll show so your kinda pissing in the wind if you will. So that being said i practice at 20 yards. My kill zone is way less. From my seat to bottom of feeder is on 16 yards. At 20 yards i group pretty decent and at 16 yards im a lil tighter. Iv been giving the montech G5 a try but i just can not get them to fly comfortably enuff or sharp enuff to hunt with hence my search for a mechanical. My problem is i have no pro shop close to me. I live in rural west texas. Thanks for your time brother
i just shot a keaup through a tire 3 times and got 8" penetration and it opened on impact every time. i can't shoot it anymore because the blades won't lock now but they didn't break
Well, if your bow is tuned well, then most everything flys well…expandables and fixed. So…the Sevrs and the other heads all flew like fields points…for the most part.
One thing I see when people use gel is they seldom create what would be considered the skin of an animal. The gel may imitate the meat tissue but there needs to be cloth, leather etc to get mechanical heads to open? correctly? Thin split cowhide used in some videos clearly shows the mechanical heads functioning normally nearly every time.
nice video and thanks for going thru that to detail your findings. However, I just dont get the need to shoot a mechanical thats subject to failure. Your shooting at 10 yards here and probably hunting at 20-30 yds with heavy arrow. Throw a exudus, tooth of the arrow, magnus black hornet etc..and stop worrying if your mechaical is going to open, break a blade or re-direct.
I have killed piles of deer, turkey, and a bear with Rage. Then they sent their manufacturing to china and they went to shit. They have brought it back but I have not shot them. I just got 6 of the SEVR to try this season hope they work like the old Rage.
It's crazy to see all the comments of fixed blade fans knocking Mechanical shooters...on a mechanical broadhead review video lol. Rage has been great to me despite all the hate💯
I’m loving the Sevr! Shot a solid 8 pointer on Oct. 1st…awesome blood trail. That said, I could not care less what you choose to use…this video isn’t to convince you to use an expandable…use a Lego if you want. Good luck this season.

I killed my first deer in 1965 with the old Bear two blade with bleeders blades off a 55# Bear recurve bow. In all my years I’ve never used a mechanical head. Because bows of the last 10-15 years are so much better than ever to get tuned and tuned WITH any arrow and broadhead why use a head that may fail you? Why not use a head that WILL NOT fail on impact? Want lots of proof of fixed blade heads, UA-cam hunts in Australia. Watch those guys kill large wild pigs, feral goats and the monster Water Buffalo with simple two blade heads.
I’m sorry, but this video wasn’t created to convince you to use mechanicals…it’s simply evaluating mechanicals. Use what you want..heck, use a Lego…I don’t care. I used to feel the same way you do and then I got tired of small to nonexistent blood trails. Best of luck this season!

It's worth it. I dropped a doe with a lung/shoulder shot and it cut through the bone. Destroyed completely but it did it's job.
That has been a concern for me with the sever broadheads... Not snapping open. If you find that happens in the field can you let us know.
In my subsequent video, they do lock open. But, I will follow up based on live results.
