Love These Easy DIY Shelves by Fix This Build That! (Link in description)

These down and dirty shelves by @fixthisbuildthat are one of my absolute favorite DIY projects! They're cheap, easy to build (just under 50 bucks where I am), and using just a circular saw and a driver, you can make them in less than 2 hours. This is my second set for the basement storage room, and I'm already planning to make at least 2 more in the future!

Nice shelf unit, but I’m not sure those 8 brittle screws holding each shelf to the legs will have the shear resistance to support a fully loaded shelf. Lag screws and bolts attaching the legs to the shelf at each corner may have been a better choice.

This was a concern of mine as well when I built the first set. These are definitely lighter duty shelves, but in my experience, using 2 3-inch construction screws has worked fine. Alternatively, you could simply add small blocking on the 4 corners under each shelf to transfer the load that way, but that’s overkill for my purposes. Cheers!

​@@fullertonwoodworks I built the same design shelves with cripple studs at the corners, as you are suggesting, minus the little studs in the middle of each shelf. Made them 8ft long x 2ft deep. They're solid AF.
