The chorus in Break My Stride is probably one of the best written choruses of all time. You can play it on repeat and never get tired of it. Fantastic song!
Most upbeat song of all time. I am sure he helped many people going through a difficult time and did not even know. It would be great to see people email him explaining how his ong helped them.
I am not a troll i swear. You should check out by buddy...white guy from cali moves to africa and becomes a musician. Try Kilebu Kibanga....it will make you dance
When I was a little girl and sad, my mom used to sing this song to me to cheer me up. She just died and I miss her so much 😢 I'm listening to it again to try to get through the sadness I feel.
Just a perfect tune. The chorus is such a catchy hook, yet the verse is actually very strange and complex, with some really interesting chords. I think it’s the dichotomy between the two, the tension and release, that really makes the song so effective and memorable.
This song drives me nuts. How do you write a better pop son? It's elements of circus music, synth and reggae.. Perfection! It's like if I write and I think of the bests, Mathew Wilder broke the glass ceiling with this. I'm not a pop musician by any means. I've done punk, rock and heavy metal. Most of my peers consider me a metal head, but I only want to write music from all musical genres as sources, so I figure pop music is really that only category since a lot of the music summarizes elements from multiple genres. Problem is: you have to be best of the best to really break through as an artist in pop (or be a producer's kid or be rich, which I am neither).
I remember first hearing this song even I was in kindergarten. This song helped me get through those difficult times. Lol 😅 actually this song reminds me of some of my best childhood memories as I used to hear it all the time back in those days.
I think I heard this once on the radio, about the first time I’d got a “stereo” in the mid 80’s and I’ve never forgotten it, although I didn’t hear it for about 15 years. It’s just so good, so upbeat, catchy, happy (plus dat moustache is pretty awesome :))
After I got out of the military and was going to college, I lived in a little bodunk town in the middle of nowhere that had 3 BIG hills that someone made a ski resort of sorts out of. They even had nice monitors all the way down all 3 slopes and piped in killer music. I still have fond memories of hearing Break My Stride and Talking in your Sleep while carving the slopes at night. (they had lights on all 3 slopes too). Good times.
That’s amazing! I love that song since I first listened when I was 6 years old, and I listen this song often and forever will, thank you Matthew for creating such beautiful song ❤
This man is far from a one hit wonder. I personally love Ladder of Lovers and That kid's american as well as Stride. Folks, do yourself a favor and listen to both albums. Very good stuff in there!
Matthew's got a lot in the tank! ...and he ain't done neither! :) thanks for checking out the video! There's a full interview here on my channel as well.
Not only I love the song, it's inspirational he made it big in his late 20s. The music industry is so focused on youth it's easy to get discouraged if you don't make it big quickly.
its an awesome feel good song and it just makes me feel good every time i hear it. .. BTW ... if ever you have a party or wedding .. play it cox it just creates such positivity and joy .. Thanks Matthew X ... Never Give up guys ... Life will knock us down but we get up and go again

How incredible it must be to write something that sticks with hundreds of millions of people for decades. Even if it's just one song, no matter. Billions of other people from thousands of years can't claim the same. I can't even remotely imagine the whole world loving me for something I wrote in my darkest hour.
Despite the downturn in his solo career, Wilder continued his career in the music industry as a songwriter and as a record producer for such acts as No Doubt (the hit album Tragic Kingdom), 702, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus on her Hannah Montana song "G.N.O. (Girls Night Out)", The Belle Brigade, King Charles, and Joanna Pacitti. He has also done production work on Australian singer-songwriter Mig Ayesa's self-titled album released in April 2007 and has helped with production on Hayden Panettiere's unreleased album. For the Disney film Mulan, Wilder co-wrote the songs with lyricist David Zippel. Wilder also lent his singing voice to the character of Ling. He won an Annie Award nomination for Music in an Animated Feature Production, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Musical or Comedy Score (along with David Zippel and Jerry Goldsmith) for his work on that film.[1]
For the longest time I never knew who sang this song... I always thought it was an actual Jamaican who was dabbling in New Wave and Reggae fusion... I literally didn't learn this song was by a white guy named Matthew Wilder until decades later seriously. I only ever knew the chorus... and it was famously interpolated on a Puff Daddy song "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down"
Love this song and want to tattoo these chorus on me that's how much meaning this song has in my life and all the negative people who attempted to bring me down....Ive got to keep on moving
Sometimes songs have everything, this is one. And written from what’s going on in his life, these are the best songs. (But what about the laundry)? Lol
