Can I point out everytime I listen to this my heart tells me not to laugh but my brain just imagine the town's people going in the softest voice "something wrong with Jack"
I would have seen this song being remastered as a jazz of a funky song, not as a song like that. The problem is that it doesn't retranscribe the effects the lyrics are supposed to have. In that song, we see jack being impatient to find the secret of chrismas. That song is too calm, and it makes it seem like he's depressed more than impatient
I swear, every other song on the album is amazing no matter how much it differs from the original... except this tire fire in my ears. It sounds like Adam Sandler sucked helium and was forced to sing at gunpoint.
i like the somber quality to this version actually, i'm not saying it's the best it could possibly be, but i think it really catches the feeling behind the song
I actually don't mind this version, it reminds me a bit of some of Modest Mouse's slower songs. Besides, there have been far worse covers on this album than this imo.
This Revisited track peaked my interest in Sparklehorse, and they're a stunning band. It's an eerie, tranquil cover that breaks up the first half of the album & the second. It's not unlike some of their other acoustic indie stuff.
@Frysgirl3009: You know, I asked my doctor the same question, but then he offered to wash my car and tried to grab my junk, then I realized I was in the super market parking lot. That was a strange Fourth of July. Worst January ever.
@Zeli2tear It's a predetermined feel from viewing the film. It's a very interesting take on it with an absolutely different feel. This is not at all a bad thing, just very different. Thanks for commenting Zeli!
This is a travesty though. The fact *so* many people dislike it should show *why* people are complaining. If something is terrible, it shouldn't get shielded from critical commentary, again, especially when the majority of people dislike this cover.
Guys, it's a cover. It's not meant to sound exactly like the original- Nightmare Revisited is all about these songs being covered and influenced by the artist that's covering it. Sparklehorse has very simple, laid back, music. That's why this song sounds so different. It's not bad or ruined- it's twisted around to fit the artists' style.
Unlike many others here, and although I'm not a big fan of the band, Sparklehorse's dainty rendition of the song don't bother me a bit. I find it rather touching in its simplicity.
Sparkle horse is great, sad to see all the hate from people who don't know him in the comments but it's understandable, this cover is nothing like the original and has a completely different vibe from the entire movie lol
Thought process: YES! Finally found the Nightmare Revisited of Jack's Obsession! ---- What.... Am I listening to. What. No. Why. No. My heart... It broke. ;.; Worst Nightmare Revisited. Ever.
Reminds me of hippies in the sixties. Especially since you'd really need to be on something to dig this. XD But seriously man, this isn't story time on candy cane lane, this is just way too out of left field and doesn't fit the song at all.
This is one of the few versions I wince at. I love the new versions ('cept this one). I love the old ones. All are fun to listen too... other than this. ugh
I love this. It's mellow and gives more meaning to the song but it's also kind of creepy and I kind of just love it. But it's so off from the actual song, it's ruined for me.
How can that many people really dislike this. It exactly what'd youd imagine from a sparklehorse cover. Lyrical content wise, is also perfect for sparklehorse
We don’t like sparklehorse. I don’t care if it sounds similar to other music they’ve done. If this is what they usually sound like, then their other music sucks too. Just because the singer is dead doesn’t mean I have to like it either.
@@tommycooper1700 I'd let a gorilla tear my balls off to resurrect mark but this is fair as I can imagine if you've never heard sparklehorse its probably an absurd sound
Flyleaf's wasn't that bad. Liked more than town meeting. Flyleaf's is coming out of a depression and seeing beauty in the world again. And Fall Out Boy's is what keeps you going afterward.
Honestly surprised to see so many people hating this, but I get it people have different tastes. Like most I came to album to hear korn, Marilyn manson, and Amy lee, but I ended up finding other artists I like too. This song was a shock to hear at first but it grew on me, and now years later sparklehorse is my top favorite band
I would have to disagree with all of you, this is fabulous, and I think it came out exactly how they wanted it too. I'm a fan of Sparklehorse, I enjoy the art (:
@Victizzle1 When I said emotionally dead, I didn't mean unhappy. I meant it's just dry...there's nothing there at all. In the original song, Jack is distressed and frustrated, and then at the end he has an epiphany and goes just a bit crazy. This version is just lifeless, there's no emotion.
To be honest it sounds like the artists of the cover got the lyrics of the song and made an complement to the lyrics without taking any inspiration from the source material and unfortunatly the tone of the song suffered for it. The music is too slow and "relaxing". The original is meant to be erratic and fast to meet the tone in that moment. They could have made it work with acoustic if they listened to the original.
This is a beautiful song when Jack sings it!!! WHAT THE ABSOLUTE HELL?!?!?! D: I cried from laughing at the comments on this :D :D But seriously, they could have made an amazing cover of this song - who the hell got this male/female/orc to sing it?!
well... we may need to revisit Nightmare Revisited..

they say
"something's wrong with jack"
while in the old one said
"somethings up with jack"
I don't mind covers of a different genre. I heavily mind bronchitis riddled vocal chords.

I don't know what this song's supposed to sound like, but this is classically Sparklehorse.

I would have seen this song being remastered as a jazz of a funky song, not as a song like that. The problem is that it doesn't retranscribe the effects the lyrics are supposed to have. In that song, we see jack being impatient to find the secret of chrismas. That song is too calm, and it makes it seem like he's depressed more than impatient
mark linkous shot himself in the chest with a rifle so maybe that's why it sounds depressing
And thank god for that, because this is seriously awful and there shouldn't be more of it.

Well said. I'm glad your looked up Sparklehorse. Mark was such a great musician. So much beautiful music.

They had so many good songs on this CD. I think this one just soiled it all.
everyone is so harsh towards this song... i actually really like it. this song got me into sparklehorse tbh
My sentiment exactly.
Damn don't listen to it if you don't like it easy as that no need to complain.
Of course there's a need to complain. We don't want this band or anyone for that matter to think this is a great song . Can't silence that message.
we wont listen to this EVER!
This is a travesty though.
