There are discussions about the CZ USA Bren 2Ms pistol chambered in 7.62x39 having extractor related malfunctions. We take an 11" CZ Bren 2 Ms and run over 1300 rounds through it to see if we experience any stovepipe failures, cracked bolts or any of the other issues being reported.

I find it curious that CZ using the it’s the ammunition excuse. The 7.62x39 variant of the Bren was developed for foreign military sales to countries already utilizing that cartridge. Having the rifle run properly on steel lacquered ammunition would be of the upmost importance.
According to Kalashism VK post about his experience with CZ 807 during Pakistan tender (Kalashnikov Concern put their AK-103 for trials, and some of KC personal was in country for obvious reasons and were present at trials of other rifles as well), their 7.62x39 version had accuracy problems. They even tried to use special big ass bench to fix rifle in place, and it still had problems.
Bench:

Kalashnikov Concern specialist with CZ:
pp.userapi.com/c845123/v845123542/6d98/2dA2mzIyxLA.jpg
Other problems he noted in his post was that in more than 4000 shots there were non-ejection of the cartridge case, breakage of the ejector, breakdown of the hummer [not sure if translated it right] light primer taps, failures to feed. "And the set of spare parts and their number were regulated before the start of firing, and it seems that some of these problems were known and expected."
Exactly....
Supposedly the only have S&B to test with over at CZ, so they can't replicate any of these malfunctions since they're doing the testing with the ammo that works at the factory
Exactly! You can’t make a 762x39 and expect folks to use brass ammo.
@Michael Srite This was post by KC specialist in his blog, not official statement. His words are sort of confirmed by a fact that CZ 807 failed Pakistan Army trails.
Guys, watch the video before commenting, the gun performed extremely good. 1400 rounds and only one single light primer strike. It was a torture test and it passed easily.
Seriously lol.. I read the comments and kept thinking "did they even watch it?"
1400 rounds at the range is far from a torture test. I agree the gun did well, but definitely not a torture test.

The Bren 805 had a swapable magwell. It was a choice of the owner if they want to use M4 mags or G36 mags. But to this day I don't understand why the magwell swap option wasn't carried over to Bren 2. Being able to use AK mags would be really nice.
good info
Looks like a heat treating problem that got past QC. I think that would make sense of the cracks and the extractor wear.
The owner was using a donut and a brand new bcm extractor spring. Using both often causes excess tension on the extractor, which can cause parts breakage.
I don't recommend donuts unless you're having issues. Even then, put some serious thought into it.
@@ragedashboard6374 What are donuts?
I had responded to CZ on reddit that it was most likely my pistol that "had its chamber caked in lacquer". I have a video uploaded that shows my pistol malfunctioning twice in one magazine. The malfunctions were before the pistol had seen any lacquer coated ammo. My pistol is currently back at CZ for its third trip to be fixed for this issue.
What do I need to do. Do I email CZ was at the range today. www.reddit.com/r/Bren2/comments/j53oon/762x39_105_inch_barrel_heres_is_the_problem/?

Allz I know is the gun range a buddy of mine works at no longer carries and refuses to carry Bren 2 rifles or pistols because the ones they got for range rentals experienced cracked bolts within a week of going live as range rentals. There were 2, both pistols, both 7.62x39. So I think it probably is a batch issue (some guns got more love than others)
I have a cz bren 2 ms x39 11 inch, has been flawless with wolf ammo so far :D
From my own testing I found that when firing steel cased ammo the steel case doesn’t expand like brass after 3k in my own gun the chamber was dirty enough that when I fired brass the brass case got stuck due to chamber being dirty. Obviously he solution for this is to clean your rifle. Most of the people I know dont clean there rifles enough.
Interestingly enough lacquered steel case ammo also caused similar issues on my cz 75 9mm pistol not extracting. Swapped to brass & went up to 124 gr and I haven't had any issues since.
The problem with firearm reliability testing is that most people don’t shoot that many rounds. People say oh I have a p365 that has never had an issue. They may have only shot 100 rounds. The vast majority of gun owners just throw the gun in their nightstand or holster and that’s it.
I see "Why X39?" in comments. Here's why, the 5.56 sucks in a pistol length. 5.56 takes @16" of barrel to burn the propellant. X39 has full propellant burn in 9" of barrel and is better suited to a pistol length barrel, much like the 300BLK. So for most people who don't reload the X39 is better for a pistol length barrel. The 300BLK is also an excellent choice and can achieve full propellant burn in as little as 7" when loaded with a fast burning powder.
I took my 14" model out today and i couldn't get through a single magazine without having stovepipes or the case flipping 180° and jamming the open wnd onto the extractor. I used Wolf L&S and some Fiocchi brass, and my third round of brass flipped around.
I want to love this gun so much
It's the AK-FAL we deserve
@Destroyer Armor at least I can say I have the gun running perfectly now, HB Industries new gas regulator came in clutch. It is a perfect rifle and I want a 5.56 model now
Dan Haga is the mine. I was lucky enough for my Bren 2s to be the guinea pig for that stock adapter, fitting it and making it function over a year ago.

I have an original 9in Bren 2 762x39. I have abused it, similar to how Mac did in this video. Except, all my rounds have been suppressed with a baffled can. All steel cased, Golden tiger, wolf, plus subsonic brown bear, over 4k. It has been flawless. Glad to see your results were similar.

I picked up a NIB Gen 1 BREN 805 back in May and glad i dodged all these GEN 2 problems lol
If anyone cares. I took great interest in this as I own a newish 14” Bren 2 7.62x39 in SBR format with a factory CZ folding stock. Shot 400 rounds today of Barnaul Steel Case, Tula Steel Case (Mfg by Ulyanovsk), and GECO Brass Case. First 2 magazines of 60 rounds were Barnaul. I had 2 stovepipes, switched to 100 rounds of GECO with no issues. Proceeded to 200 rounds of Tula with no issues then back to 40 rounds of Barnaul with 2 more issues (stovepipe and not locking bolt on last round). I’m guessing it has something to do with poor ammo QC out of steel cases ammo as the Barnauls ejection pattern was all over the place (Front, Right, and behind).
My gun is a ‘19 production with a D prefix. No broken extractor or unusual wear patterns yet.
I just bought the same exact model! Keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Also i only had about 200 rounds in mine aswell
@@mr_mel I use both translucent and the solid black. Happens on both types of mags. You can actually see marks on the front part of my ejection port were the front rim on the neck of the spent case hits the reciver and then shoves its self back into the chamber/ or gets caught by the next round or bolt... Im pretty sure this is happening because of the 1 o'clock rejection pattern. If these rifles/pistols were gassed properly I think I wouldn't have the issue.
Had the issue with both types of magazines as well. Number of rounds in the mag did not have an affect as well.

Knowing Tim's luck with other guns, I thought HIS Bren 2 had a broken extractor--that and me not reading the title properly 😂.
I shoot crap tons of lacquer coated ammo, in AK's, AR's, and pistols, never had a problem with it coming off and building up, sealant yes, that can get everywhere. Barnaul is actually switching all of there commercial from poly to lacquer too. I can't believe this old wise tale is still around. Even in SDI's textbooks they talk about issues associated with lacquer buildup. I think most people who talk about it don't have much experience with the ammo and just regurgitate the talking point. Cool video.
Got 3000 rounds of Wolf (Barnaul) "mil-spec" 5.45x39 this year. The mil-spec designation means "lacquer and sealant".

Yes I bought a ton of Wolf milspec from SG that is sealed and lacquered. I bought 2 different lots from classic, the poly is dated 12/19. Last month I bought some more 5.45 from classic dated 6/20 and that is lacquered no sealant, but its commercial. SG has an exclusive Barnaul milspec 5.56 that I run a lot that is lacquered and sealed. I love the stuff.

Cracked bolts, bad extraction, clogs with lacquer? Damn man, I don't even want the 5.56 version now and 7.62x39 was top of my list.
Put 200 rounds of brass cased PPU through My 14" MS without any issues. Went back to the range a few weeks later, had installed a surefire socom break, Dan Haga shim kit, and stored my mags loaded. Had several stove pipes. I was only able to get through one 30 round mag without issues. I swapped out the muzzle device to a warcomp. Hopefully it functions well, so I can send it off for a pin & weld. Really want this firearm to run like the rest of my CZ's.
@Michael Srite Have the BREN 805 S1 in 5.56, an several AR's chambered in the round MORON. Wanted the 7.62 x 39, and with the other CZ's I own (Shadow 2, P10C, 805 S1, DW Valor), and not having any issues out of them, I expected that of the BREN 2 as well.

I had this issue with my Bren. When I first got it I bought Bear subsonic and the gun would not cycle properly. Stove piped every time. Didn’t matter the gas setting. I then tried red army steel and it cycled for about 100 rounds but then I had to oil it. Would then cycle for another hundred then would need to oil. I had to do this with all different types of ammo brass and steel I eventually got rid of it.
Things blew up after reading replies from CZ that blamed ammo. What may not be clear from those reports is that those users' weapons still malfunctioned after getting them back from CZ. That really blew things up. There's a disturbing trend of US distributors for foreign firearms blowing off customers who have clear and repeatable issues until the torches and pitchforks come out. I'm looking at you, Beretta.

Jason is committed to your channel. I could never abuse any of my firearms like that. When I hunted; I sacrificed my body to protect my firearm.
I had a failure with Wolf Hollow Point Steel Cased (7.62x39) ammo but it was that the deflector deflected the case into the chamber. Happened more than once. I did get the firearm used so it may be something else, since it hasn't happened with the Bren Tim was using. Mine had the mag-well converted to take AR-15(7.62x39) mags.
Awesome SBR ,looks like quite allot of flash coming out of the gas block when it gets real hot,I actually think when you allowed more gas to be tapped off and your cartridges were getting spat out at 3 o'clock ,well I just agree that it would have to reduce the wear n tear quite allot ,great vid, thanks Tim.
Lacquer coated steel cases have been the standard for 7.62x39 since the SKS was the "next best thing". If that stuff doesn't work it makes it seem like it was not properly designed for the caliber.
I wish Tim showed the cam pin... mine which has between 500 to 700 rounds and is having issues with ejection also has excessive cam pin wear, and the plastic buffer on the buffer spring assembly has taken the shape of the bolt carrier and warping it... major over gassed issues in my opinion! I contacted Tim which I am local too, asked if he would like to test out my CZ BREN IN 7.62X39 11" BARREL to compare with jasons and catch these issues with the shorter barreled brens in 7.62 on camera, hopefully we can meet up and start figuring this out.

If I continue to have issues I might try reinstalling the factory handguard and see how that goes. I can leave an update here in a couple weeks if you guys want.
Still love my bren 2ms but until I get it to hold a good group its relegated to range use only. :(
If you used the HBI touque specs, go lighter. I beleive HBI stated 90in/lbs in the instructions, but people are having better luck with 60 (60 is also what CZ uses from factory).
@@nathanhoxworth1185 appreciate that and yeah just talked to hbi and they're saying 60 to as low as 45 inch pounds. They said cz specs for factory handguard is 70.

My 14 inch Bren 2S has had this issue, tends to happen around once per magazine and sometimes more frequently. I've been primarily shooting golden tiger as well. I'll have to give it a deep clean and see if the problem persists. I have it more as a collectible, however, so its not the end of the world to me. Still would be nice to have 100% function given how nice the firearm is outside of that issue.

@Commies Get Rittenhoused If the issues are worked out with the 7.62x39 I would consider it the best option in the category. It has the most modern features and it doesn't have the same drawbacks associated with 7.62x39 ARs ie the terrible magazines.
@@user-ui8sp5th4g I would definitely give CZ the opportunity to figure out whats going on with them. If it is worked out, I dont think there could be a better choice for a 7.62x39 rifle.
Brotein92 I agree I’m not sweating it. I lm a full time college student and barely get to shoot anymore so maybe when I’m done with school and this world returns back to normal they will have it all figured out by then. I agree the Bren is an incredible battle rifle and I would carry it into battle if it didn’t have a coin flip reputation. I like the 7.62 round way more then the 5.56 in terms of damage. The military just upgraded to a 6.5 so I’m sure it’s for a good reason.
@Commies Get Rittenhoused AK mags are less than ideal since you don't have a real bolt hold open, thats one of the best improvements the Bren makes IMO. Also the controls are more familiar than the VZ 58 for most people, though I definitely still am a fan of the VZ 58
Get the gun hot, leave a lacquered case in the chamber, let the gun cool then fire the weapon to see if the lacquer make the cartridge stick and causes an extractor issue.

From what I’ve read on forums most people experiencing the issues didn’t see them arise until they changed the hand guard. Something I was going to do but decided to hold off on. 🤷🏻♂️
Wait, why would furniture have anything to do with function?
@@frankdamsy9715 HBI's original recommended torque for the handguard was causing binding for some people thus not allowing the bolt to go into battery. From what I've found perusing forums is that this can be the cause of excess wear on the bolt carrier group. May not be related at all but from the reading around I have done nearly everyone who has had issues has changed the handguard which makes me suspect there may be some correlation.
I have a cz bren 2 ms x39 11 inch, has been flawless with wolf ammo so far :D
MAC took me off guard with the first mag. Took me a second to realize the video was speed up and not full auto.
I had same issues with my Galil in 556. Super over gassed, failures all day. Sent it back and they said ammo varnished chamber. Doubtful but I can see maybe since 556 contacts chamber more than 762. 762 round is more angled. I also think it was too overgassed cycling too fast. The factory piston system didn’t have an adjuster so I bought aftermarket. I never installed because I ended up dumping it for a BCM Recce 16 MCMR. Not a single failure or issue since with the BCM.
Wow. You got a steal on that trade.
John Daugherty glad i traded. I don’t trust a firearm after that type of experience. BCM makes some incredible rifles.
Lonestar boars is a good one to ask i have a feeling he's run a crap ton though one.
Just in case anyone wants a factory stock, cz-usa has 922r compliance kit they sell on their website. I think their out of stock right now, but they have an in stock notification list if you wanna wait. People are trying to sell the stock for $500 by itself, but the kit has a handguard, stock, piston rod and a few other parts for less than $300. Dont get screwed
I've got stocks if you want one, hahaha.
@@rybk_ how much?
I recently ran several magazines of Golden Tiger 7.62x39 through my Bren Ms 2. One of the magazines produced several stove-pipes while the others performed flawlessly. I suspect I didn't load the cartridges correctly in that one magazine.
My personal experience being into aks so long I think the lacquer coated ammo is just as clean as brass case on your internals. But poly coated steel makes your firearms super dirty. But I actually prefer running lacquer over brass
I've seen robski reporting problems with light primer strikes with golden tiger also
I am super intrigued about that straight insertion of the AK mags.
they're proprietary. Ak mags don't work.
@@El_Dusty well that makes WAY more sense
Really good gun. Looks very reliable.
I received my MS 7.62 11" in July and so far it's Bren horrible. I've cleared more stovepipes on the CZ than all my other guns combined. I haven't even made it to 500 rounds yet. Tired cleaning the crap out of it, and got a stovepipe on the very first mag. Feel like an idiot for buying this. So many better options out there.
As I'm writing this the link to fill out the warranty request form on cz-usa.com is also broken.
@Michael Srite It doesn't even take Glock mags either!
I have a cz bren 2 ms x39 11 inch, has been flawless with wolf ammo so far :D
Things we've learned after today's range session. CZ's "theory" is False , CZ doesn't want to own up to parts failures.
Cz: let's just blame it on poor quality ammo.
Me: you realize you are designing a gun around 7.62x39, right?
Pitch Lock yea maybe if it was 556
30 cal magazine that fires in half a second. Amazing
Great video though, I didn't know about lacquered ammo. I'd still love to have a Bren
I have found the Golden tiger to be one of the best steel case 7.62x39 flavors, for accuracy out of my MAK90. Wish it was more readily available during normal times.
Well CZ sent me a new 14" MS. Guess they couldn't figure out what was going on with the one I sent in, or didn't want to take to long. They were kind enough to take off all my aftermarket parts, and send them back with the new one, along with the 3 mags I sent them. They did forget the HBI trigger disonnect, but probably didn't notice it. I will be happy if this one functions. Kind of surprised they didn't notify me I was being sent anything. Fed Ex just showed up with it. Guess they are busy.
