- This video shows filter performance on a 10 gallon with cloudy water issues. Can this nano HOB live up to the 5-15 gallon rating?

Pro tip: there is no amount of floss that will clear a cloudy tank caused by a bacteria bloom. You would need UV or carbon. And yes you can use carbon in a planted tank. The myth is that it removes fertilizer. It doesn't.
I am guessing it is bacterial but not 100%. As a seasoned tank, it’s all I can think of. Carbon removes (absorbs) a lot of different elements and minerals. Do you have any links to research showing carbon not absorbing nutrients that plants use? I’d like to learn more about carbon.
@ssaquascapes if you google it you'll find them after you wade through uniformed opinions from hobbiests. This one's a good starting point aquariumscience.org/index.php/7-4-2-activated-carbon/
@@jril3982 100% agree with your comment , been enjoying the crystal clear aquarium's using Boyd's Chemi Pure Green 💚
I've been binge watching a lot of your videos. They are excellent and really relatable. You demonstrate a lot of interesting products and highlight a lot of the problems I encounter myself. Your fishtanks look great, too. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much. I am glad you’re enjoying the channel! I’ll do all I can to keep improving my content for you guys. 🤘
thanks for showing this i have had issues with cloud too
My pleasure!
I had the same Aquatop on a 10 gallon tank, flow was horrible so I sent it back and got a Aqueon QuietFlow 10. Replaced the throw away cartridge with cut to size sponge and it works alot better. Plus its self priming.
I wanted a gentle flow so I have no complaints about that. But, I don’t think it would effectively clean even a 5G. Working well on the nano cube though.
Like the aqua clear 20, there’s enough room for your foam, biological, and filter floss
Works well on a 0.5G 😁
What brand/type of tanks are the ones with the rounded corners?
Mine are Mr.Aqua brand and I got them from my LFS. You could probably ask your local shop to order them for you as most LFS’ have vendor connections. They come in multiple sizes.
That filter appears no better than the myriad Chinese knockoffs if not worse :( Oh, well. You gave it the ol' college try. why I dig your channel!
Thanks man. I wanted a small filter to assist the Walstad. But, she just couldn’t keep up. 😞
I have a Betta in a 5.5 gallon tank along with a few Nerite snails with the Forza PFE1 filter (5-15).
I'm a bit concerned with the amount of oxygen getting into the water due to lack of surface agitation (bubbles) even at maximum outflow.
Then again, I don't want my Betta getting tossed around by a larger outflow filter.
Any thoughts?
As long as there is surface agitation (any rippling of water) there will be oxygen exchange. None of my outflows have bubbles. If the surface is clear of biofilm, and you have water movement, there will be oxygen exchange. If the tank is planted, even better. Just keep an eye on your Betta but I am sure it’ll be fine. 😁
@@ssaquascapes There is some gentle rippling under the waterfall but the true test is my Vallisneria plant on the other side of the tank swaying ever so slightly. I guess that's a good sign.
Everyone seems happy.
Snails, shrimp and Helen Of Troy (my betta).
Seems fine to me as well. Also keep in mind you are getting oxygen transferred into the water during the filter process. The water falling over the outflow ramp and the agitation inside the HOB are also exchanging gasses.
Thanks for asking your question and for showing a deep love of our little wet pets! 🤘
That filter is way to small for a 10 gal and that amount of fish... that is why your getting a bacteria bloom. That filter I should only be put on a 5 gallon tank at most any more and it's overwhelmed.
That’s what I figured. The stocking is crazy in this tank.
Always go with the minimum gallon rating on these filters. Better yet, cut the lowest number in half. I don’t know where these companies get their capacity ratings from, but it makes for fun UA-cam videos. 🤣
@@ssaquascapes Lol, so true.
What a complicated video about a tank with so many unnecessary complications! Good night!!😂
Glad you enjoyed it! 🤣
The filter is crap, and there are way too many fish in that tank. With that kind of bio load, you really need to run a canister filter.
The great thing about this hobby is; so many different ways to disagree. 🤣
