      I feel like some people will put any babies there, human or animals, as long as they'll get money, views or just attention from it. It's sad and messed up, but the issue is that people who know how wrong and messed up doing something like this is would also never do anything like that. People who are doing it will never bother to use their brains and think something like "Hm, maybe I should not be doing that, maybe it's not right or good for that animal/s. How would I feel if someone did this to me?" They care only about the numbers and they are getting them, people will watch or send those people money (nope, no idea for what or why, but then again I can not know that since I don't think the way these people do)

      I'm a pet groomer at a Petco and one time I saw one of my coworkers get screamed at by this dude because my coworker wouldn't let him purchase the betta to place in a 0.5 gallon container that mostly is used for transportation and crickets. My coworker even offered to keep the betta off of the purchasable ones for up to 2 weeks until nitrites and nitrates and ammonia balanced. This was also when the $1 per gallon tank sale was happening and he tried to guide him in the right direction, but the customer just yelled at him then called corporate. In a rare situation corporate stuck by my coworker.
      Oh yeah also told customer I have 1 betta in a 10 gallon this is normal and easier to maintain he went off on me too. I fled back to the grooming salon lol.

They spread such important information, like not mixing predator and prey animals or not releasing your animals/burying or dumping dead pets. The mixing predator and prey animals really gets me, I see it all the time, people thinking it’s cute, that the animals are friends, etc. Like, honestly, just why, anything can happen, one of them can get spooked, it takes one second, WHY would you risk something so horrible like that so that your animals can completely unnecessarily be friends!? Gets on my nerves. And then the idiots are SO surprised when it ends badly and their pet is seriously injured or even killed!

Let alone if you want to consider substrate, filter replacements, any medications the fish might need from living in those horrible pet store conditions….

The more research I’ve done, the more complicated caring for a fish has seemed. Watching your videos has really made me want to look into it again, though. Any suggestions for an “easy” first-time fish? I have a 5 gallon tank with a filter that someone gave me.

    • @TheDoomSheep
      @TheDoomSheep Рік тому +3

      As a former fish owner of some of the "easy" fish like guppies, I don't think any fish is a good idea as a classroom pet because they are expensive and high maintenance and you would need a second aquarium at your home to transfer the fish to during weekends and holidays and summer break. Doing aquarium water changes takes a lot of time and is pretty messy and you would be lugging a bucket or two of water to wherever the closest bathroom is which might be far from your classroom. Fish themselves can be quite fragile and might die unexpectedly in a short amount of time even if you did everything right, they can't be handled by the kids which is probably a bummer for them, and the kids are DEFINITELY going to tap the glass no matter how many times you tell them it's bad for the fish. I'd also be worried about some kids doing something that might harm the fish more directly like putting objects in the aquarium that might be toxic or trying to catch the fish when you aren't looking.

    You could get a decent tank for $50 in USA if you know what you are doing, particularly if you find a deal on craigslist or offerup and are willing to clean and rehab a dirty tank someone is getting rid of. Also petco does their 'dollar per gallon sale' on tanks once or twice a year but the tanks that are part of that sale don't come with anything included so you have to add on filter, lights, hood or cover possibly, and a stand probably.
    People like the cheap plastic starter kits because they are cheap and they are "everything you need" even though they are all tiny and made of plastic that decays and gets brittle over time not to mention what it might do to the water. The better quality 'starter kits' cost upwards of $60 for a 5 gallon or $75 for a 10 gallon. Which is still worth it if you care about your fish.

    • @NamelessAidan
      @NamelessAidan Рік тому +1

      @Rat_in_a_bucket I've both bought and sold preowned tanks and even gotten some for free here or there from people. And often people are eager to get rid of them because they take up kind of a lot of space, so you can get a good deal if you're willing to travel and pickup from them.
      The one downside is that it depends a lot on what's available in your area but other than that it's the way to go.

    Here in the States, many parents use fish to teach their kids about death. It started a long time ago, when goldfish keeping was basically "vase with fish for muh Orientalism" and obviously people went through a lot of fish that way. Even though our knowledge and access to what's needed for healthy ponds and aquariums have improved, it's so accepted that small pets (including fish) are short-lived and disposable that the practice of getting cheap fish for your kids to get attached to so you can explain death to them goes on.
    My parents got me goldfish that somehow lived for over a decade, and probably would've lived longer if our house hadn't gotten struck by lightning bc they had gotten a cheapo 5gal (to start with) instead of a bowl or whatever.

    Tik Tok might possibly get banned in the US. Can't say I'd miss it when I see stuff like this.

    My betta fish lives in a 20 gallon planted tank with a mystery snail. People always comment on the tank saying that its so much space for just one fish. I'm like, yeah, my boy lives like a king and I wouldn't have it any other way.

    I am happy to have found a young woman who thinks , an intelligent young woman aware that animals are not toys , and must be respected , cared for and loved , you have my admiration and respect forever.
    I find it disgusting, cowardly and cruel people using animals to have vews, doing all kinds of evil with them, I get very angry with everything these idiots do with animals.

    Best thing about the second video was that he at least let it get used to the water. I hope he upgrades to a larger tank.

    The one where the hamster was knocked into the floor by the cat was despicable. My old hamster was the exact same size and colour of that one. And to see that, how can they let that happen. How dare they let that happen. Disgusting human being.

    I introduced my cats and gerbils. But that's just so the cats will leave them alone. And it has always worked but my gerbils have always stayed in their cage.
