Can you do a deep dive on the fake animal rescue videos going around on youtube and tiktok? They’re getting really bad!
That’s a really good idea
Oh god, no. A lot of people on yt already discussed this issue. I don't think the graphic content is not going to go well with her audience
I think she's covered those before
@@kaitlando636 she has
Nick Crowley had made a video on it if ur interested
I work at PetSmart and we NEVER throw away live animals.
That’s EXTREMELY against policy.
If this video is real, whoever did this, is DEFINITELY getting fired. Whatever location that is, it’s absolutely going to be inspected seeing how viral this has been.
Also yes, when we get betta fish, they come in the blue water. Also, when we notice sick fish, we brin them to the back and we try to nurse them back to health. We have a room for animals and fish and we have a vet on stand-by that we call if things don’t get better and we take the animals to the vet on PetSmarts dime, they get their own prescriptions, we do our best to get them back into shape, and after they get better, we bring them back out to be adopted instead of sold with their medical history. We NEVER kill them or throw them out like this. Again, if this is real, it’s absolutely disgusting and awful. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was faked, but I cannot say for sure.
Thank you for your thoughts Hazel! I love your content so much 💖
@kato Thank you for asking! So, our location doesn’t sell chinchillas. And we actually don’t sell animals to people if we personally don’t see that they can take care of them! We have that policy too, we have the right to deny the sale of an animal if we feel that they aren’t going to a safe environment. Of course, that does cause arguments, so we end up calling for our management to come help us.
I once denied a sale for 3 parakeets because the woman didn’t know what she was getting herself into, she was only buying them for her VERY young child, they didn’t know what to buy for the parakeet, and they were wanting to buy the smallest cage we had, which came with really bad plastic toys along with ones with mirrors. The cage was not fit for ANY bird. And they wanted it for 3 parakeets. I gently showed her a bigger cage and she told me she didn’t have the money for it. So no birds for you.
As a PetSmart worker, I cannot stand people who come in wanting to impulse buy pets. We don’t like that. Whenever people want pets, believe me, we’re supposed to ask a question or two to make sure the pet is going to a safe home, as well as make sure you know what you the pet parent are getting yourself into.
I have unfortunately heard bad stories ab other locations being shitty and not doing what they’re supposed to do. And about that chinchilla who got bathed in water, oh my god, that poor baby.. I hope they’re okay. Chinchillas can catch hypothermia or a fur-fungus if they’re wet. I guess that Pet Care associate just didn’t bother to let them know that.
Oh yeah- Pet Care specialists are supposed to teach as well-
(Meaning that we need to have the knowledge to tell these people what they may not know about the animal they’re interested in. And to be honest, if they didn’t know in the first place, they probably shouldn’t be owning one.)
Whoever sold that family that chinchilla must really not care about what they do. I hope that location gets inspected because that just makes my blood boil.
Sorry for the long reply, thank you for asking!
Also about the treatment of the animals
(Sorry I forgot to mention this because I was so focused on the chinchilla hddbhd)
Anyways
So, i know my location absolutely loves and cherishes our babies
Like
We sometimes get them out and say hey to them when we aren’t busy not even gonna lie-
But as far as treatment
So, we have 2 back rooms
One is for overstock pets after they’re shipped, and one is for injured pets or sick pets
For the sick pet room
If we ever notice that a fish or animal is injured or sick by any means, we immediately take them back to the sick room to make sure they’re okay. If they’re back there for 3 days or more, we have an exotic vet on stand by we call and take them to on PetSmarts dime. They get a check up and whatever else they need, their own prescriptions and everything. Pet Care Specialists are supposed to be trained to give them their medications, but if we ever have any issues or feel confused (or nervous) we can ask our manager who helps us out with that.
As far as the pet overstock room (and the new arrivals room but it’s also for pet overstock)
We have that room for pets that come in through shipment, which is very stressful for them of course
So they go in there to chill quietly for about 3 days to de-stress from the shipment process (birds are 7 days)
But yeah, Pet Cares’ job is to take care of the pets on the floor, in the New arrivals room, and in the sick room, and the deal with the customers who need help with either fish, crickets, or wanting help with anything (if they can’t find anybody else)
We also make little salads for the reptiles and rodents, it’s cute watching them munch on em
If you wanna see more insight to how things are done or whatnot, or to ask more employees questions, you could always go on r/PetSmart !
@@ammers8420 Quick question - I've heard petsmarts birds come from very unethical and dirty breeding mills, is that true
@@walllyisbestbird5227 unfortunately, I don’t exactly know, I think that unfortunately might be the case, but again, I’m not sure
I can ask when I go in next
@kaopino PETA doesn't believe in pets. Literally. And they have one of the highest, if not the highest kill rates out there. I wouldn't go by anything they say.
Petsmart doesn't intentionally mistreat their animals, but it is a large organization and they hire misinformed people all the time, so it happens sometimes. And their small pets are often inbred, from what I understand. There are better places, but worse ones too.
I really don't like how people abuse small animals and treat it as nothing. Especially fish. Soda here, though, is speaking facts.
It's because fish can't scream or cry, so dumb people think that means fish can't feel pain.
fr, i saw a horrible tiktok of someone messing around with a fish, and when people were calling it out in the comments knowing it stresses the fish,, some people replied with "who cares its just a fish" as if they aren't also living creatures
this mf on their way to stomp bugs
Im glad you know this about the dumpster diving with petsmart/petco. I used to work for Petco and it was policy to never throw live animals. If they look sick we put them out back to hopefully get a vet to give information on them. If they end up extremely unhealthy we are forced to use clove oil to euthanize them and then they go in a black bag and put into the death freezer.
Wait I’m thinking about working at petsmart was it a certain position that you were in to euthanize animals?
@@languid-4535 the only animals employees could euthanize were fish, and even then afaik that is still a manager's final call and petsmart does *not* want that to happen.
I worked at petco for a year. only one fish was considered for euthanasia, and that was a saltwater fish already dying. Only one other animal was euthanized, and it was a customer-returned injured hamster, iirc. It went to the vet for a diagnosis, who determined putting it down was the best option, and _even then_ it had to be signed off by the store manager and animal manager.
i really don't understand the 'random piles of dying axolotls' aesthetic
War crimes chic
All I can guess is that axolotls are so popular right now that ot just feeds the algorithm
i blame minecraft (well not really, but ive seen kids genuinely think minecraft invented axolotls and now people treat them like toys, my comments mostly a joke but i feel like i need to explain myself ☹️)
@@lemonmeatminecraft just wanted to show a new animal. Idk how it’s Minecraft’s fault, it’s impressionable kids. Minecraft isn’t realistic whatsoever, nor did they instill the idea that this is completely accurate to irl axolotls. It’s the people who make the videos.
I’ve come up with the PERFECT name for it: WTFcore.
10:48 was I just instructed to SMELL a bird?
Cya imma go smell a bird
Do it! I have 3 indoor pigeons, and they have a powder like smell, and it's nice. I give my feral smooches and at the same time I also give her a sniff. She certainly judges me but worth it.
My dad is always confused when my brother insists his budgie smells good- Then again, my dad doesn't like said budgie so that's probably why
Lmao bird sniffing is real- I sniff my budgie all the time- thought I was nuts until I joined bird lover communities online
When Soda does the American accent it always kills me 😭😭

That entire box of bettas was stolen from the store, completely unopened. The fish were still in the stress coat used to make travel easier and help them absorb oxygen in low oxygen environments. That amount of water is heavy af and can't be thrown away by accident. PetSmart is looking at legal action against her because she stole several hundred dollars worth of fish straight from the store
do you know where I can find more info on the situation? thanks!
PLEASE give me an article or something omg. i really want to know what happens
How tf can someone just walk in and steal it? There’s cameras, locks, motion sensors etc, in petsmarts and petcos, i know because my dad has worked at both. You cant just walk out with a massive box of fish
@@R0tten_D0gz_of_justice Yes, you absolutely can. The cameras are rarely ever used, the locks aren't automatic because the doors need to be closed by hand, and there are no motion sensors. I know because I worked at PetSmart until the end of last month.
@@leruetheday377then how tf was she not caught still? Carring a big ahh box of fish isn’t easy, wether its at night or not
yeah the petsmart video is 100% fake. Its either an employee looking for clout or a customer that stole that box before an employee had time to unload it. Theres 0% chance the box was thrown out on accident. Those things are HEAVY.
Ha! Birds DO have a smell. Almost everyone I tell "I like the way birds smell" looks at me funny. Thank you for spreading the good word. lol
Yes… like powdery hay or something
Yeah, they smell seedy-fruity sweet..mmmmmm.
sometimes i just sniff my birds. i call it the "bird scent"
It's like an odd mix of chalk like scent and seed with tiels, but for my eastern rosellas they always smelled like fruit because my mom spoiled them with fruit treats every day
i love bird scent
The other thing about the people finding a whole box of fish in the dumpster, they claimed the box was in the cardboard bin, not the dumpster. which means someone would've had to pick up a (VERY) heavy box, not broken down and soaking wet, and place it upright nicely in the dumpster. I'm also fairly certain they said they're at petco, and these are petsmart labels. It's just the fact that the box is still upright, there are no dead fish, and all of them still have water in the cups. If it wasn't staged, it was done intentionally.
yeah something isn't right with that video, and sadly fake rescue videos are so common these days, tiktok is a curse
The thing with the big box of fish in the dumpster, It honestly could have been a miscommunication. It only takes one stressed out manager telling one underpaid employee to do something and either they don't clarify or they don't say exactly what they mean specifically, that can lead to something like this.
As someone who has worked at multiple retail establishments in America, everybody is overworked and underpaid and sometimes mistakes like this like mistakes of this caliber, do unfortunately happen.
Sorry to nitpick, but this bit here was really hard to read: "sometimes mistakes like this like mistakes of this caliber" took me a solid minute to parse it.
I feel so bad about the axolotls ! I love them so much, I did my Spanish speaking assessment on Lake Xochimilco where they can be found in Mexico . I feel like a lot of people don’t acknowledge the amount of care they need , i know that a mum from my little brothers school is planning to get some for her 6 year old , I hope that they either actually take care of them or re-home them to someone who can
children should not be talking care of small pets imo..smaller pets need a LOT of care (they’re too often confused for “beginner friendly pets”..small pets usually aren’t for beginners. Things like rodents and fish)!! Get them a dog, or get them sea monkeys, much easier to care for.
1:27 it sounded to me like one of the sounds that they make in minecraft. I assumed there was no sound, bubble or otherwise, and that the creator put the minecraft sound in.
🤔
i think the minecraft noise is from/made from actual axolotls!! before the axolotls were added, my friend told me his made those "barks"
@@abyssal_azzie "Axolotls don't have any vocal organs. Which means they occasionally hiccup or burp when they swim to the surface for air. It was tricky, but that's how we managed to record real axolotls.
However, you're not just hearing an axolotl when you encounter one in-game. You're also hearing a very edited dog that we mixed in to make the Minecraft axolotl sounds."
I only ever heard that they edited a dog sound. That's super cool that it could've been the axolotl. :D
@@mintystripes73 ohh gotcha. sorry this is late lol
Me with my logical brain: the axos can’t make sounds, they don’t have vocal cords, it’s just air disruption.
Me anyway: look at the sweet little bby bean bark 🥺
I am glad you made that distinction though! It’s good information to have.
Okay, I don't know if PetSmart is different, but the box of Bettas doesn't look at all like how the Bettas that come in at Petco. They come in individual little bags with minimal water and the cups are stacked together to save on space. But I dunno, I don't work at PetSmart. Just an observation I wanna throw out there that the way the Bettas are packed is really impractical. (Source: I've worked at Petco for 5 years)
I go to PetSmart somewhat often to get dog food and I see the betta fish whenever I go and the water in the cups are never blue let alone such a deep blue. Maybe it’s different from location to location but it seems very weird.
@@trualphafox9404 They transfer them from the bags to the cups. At least they're supposed to
No, this is how they come. They come in these cups with blue water that we change to fresh water when we get them.
I used to work at PetSmart and they are fresh from the shipments: the blue water is a solution they ship them in and we change them asap. This is hundreds of dollars worth of fish so i assume they wouldn't do this on purpose. With dead fish, they do have us throw them in the trash, but they have to be in a sealed bag. The frozen thing is for the other animals. Often, the fish box gets shipped at the same time as the regular supplies, so it just makes it more likely an accident could happen.
Love your hoodie Soda!
Anyways cat was featured in this video so it's fun cat fact time to show why the video is bad.
Fun fact: Cats eyes dialate when hunting, this can happen when seeing prey or being in a playful mood.
After filming, that cat 100% tried to attack the guniea pig. Notice how the cat is fixated and still has big eyes when looking at their owner. The cat also licks it's lips. Predator and prey animals should not be together due to natural instincts, even if your pet has not harmed your other pet. It will happen at some point.
That is a fact! I don't understand how people can allow their predator animals to interact with their prey animals...
1:15 eeeeh, id say it still counts as the axolotl making the noise. if you whistle or make a fart sound with your mouth, youre still making a noise, no vocal chords needed. if its a thing the axolotl is doing that is making the noise, i say we give em the credit.
You know what that’s a good point, I didn’t really think of it like that
Yea but it’s still not a bark or the same thing as making vocalizations with vocal cords; it’s a sound but much different than a bark! It’s like when you blow bubbles in water just below the surface, or tap your fingers
I’m not super informed on pearl farming, but I know the ones that are involved with MLMs are made to be widely accessible and thus are preserved in some kind of formaldehyde(? some kind of preservative). If these are the same way, that’s really bad for the axolotls >_>
The pearl TikTok lives are so bizarre. They kill so many oysters for pearls and people just lose it. Not an ounce of compassion among the viewers. (It is possible to harvest pearls without harming the oyster, in case you're curious)
Those things are actually videos from an MLM (multi-level marketing) scam. This particular MLM sells oysters that had fake pearls inserted into them, and people are told to post videos of themselves opening said oysters at a "party" so they can make more money, since, as with most customers of these MLMs, they are told that the MLM is "their own business" and they can make money off it (though in truth a lot of these things make money from recruiting people but can get away with not being called pyramid schemes in a lot of places because they technically sell products even though morally they are pyramid schemes because you don't really make much money from product sales alone but do make money from recruiting people into the MLM). MLMs of all kinds already hurt people, and this one uses animals as well, animals that aren't even eaten but rather treated simply as glorified packaging that will be disposed of, just to make the CEOs some extra cash.
That is way too much money they have thrown away. I have worked at bad stores like this, and each morning we throw away all the dead fish, we would try to treat sick and display healthy. We did throw away dead fish, but not in a container and with water. Throwing away something they can make money on? No way.
clearly those fishes are sick on something and they probably tried to treat them using that blue stuff
can u sell sick fish?

I agree I’ve not gotten into Tik Tok either. I tried it but prefer UA-cam. Thank you for these videos they are really important. ❤
The deceased animal thing really depends on the specific pet store or chain. The one I used to work at (Pet Supplies Plus) had us throw out dead fish daily. Things may have changed now though as they've added an in-store vet.
I found a kitten abandoned under a house. Ive been bottle feeding for a wk. I found out that family that has the mom cat keeps her in the house for 2wks. They think its a good thing they wait a month after she gives birth. I told them they kittens need 6wks nursed by mom. Please spay or neuter ur pets.

As someone who rescued a pair of guinea pigs from a tank I'm appalled
Watching all the joy drain out of your face as you watch the water cooler 😂 I think it would make a cool tank for some shrimp or nano fish like rasboras
I work for a certain big pet company and can confirm your information is accurate. Those fish must have just been delivered and haven't had a chance to have their water changed. We never throw out live or dead animals and will take them to the vet if needed.
Look, I can’t tell the difference between a hampster and a gerbil, but the fact that some people can’t tell the difference between a GUINEA PIG AND A HAMPSTER astounds me.
Like, it’s kinda obvious if you’ve met a Guinea Pig before. They’re so large and distinct that it’s hard to mistake them for any other rodent.
My biology teacher made us have a goldfish and keep them in a plastic water bottle with a plant on top. And now that ive started watching these I realize how cruel that is 😭
To be honest i really enjoy watching you interact with the birds! They’re so cute
14:36 the literal thought of my axolotl being put in those condos toons make me cry she is a 2 year old chonky wild type GFP axolotl named Opal and I love her so much I hate that people think it’s okay to do this to animals and more than that just to piss people off for comments and views??
TikTok does take down harmless videos. I once made a TikTok video of me cutting out a paper circle, the next day, my account was banned and the video was taken down. I also once reported a video of a girl doing a dance in a very small swimsuit, and they kept the video up.
You notified for a swimm suit?
These pearl tiktokkers must have like an endless supply of Axolotls. How tf do you end up with math level amounts of axolotls?
That fish tank on the cooler was giving me anxiety because if it gets bumped once it will fall and smash -_-
I don't have and I never had TikTok but I have Instagram.
I'm a guinea pig owner and recently my feed has been blowing up with videos of guinea pigs, with people purposefully annoying and bothering them.
I was unfortunate enough to have seen that video of the guinea pig and the cat in the tank together and simply everything is wrong with it and I do really hope that guinea pig is in a safer, cleaner and bigger environment with a buddy.
The thing about these videos is there's people in the comment sections acting like they know everything about guinea pigs, saying stuff like "oh it's not abuse", "you're just being sensitive". It is abuse. Purposefully annoying, injuring or even k*lling your animal for a video is abuse. Guinea pigs are social animals and they can become extremely lonely and depressed if they're isolated.
It's really not that hard to do basic research and it's not that hard to not abuse small animals.
Small animal abuse is so normalized and it shouldn't be.
Also a lot of the accounts I saw posting them were those kind of guinea pig pages who act like everything owners do is cute. It is so sad to see these poor little creatures who depend on their owners to keep them alive being abused for a bunch of likes on a video.
I don't have TikTok or Insta and I don't know if I want to. I own three guinea pigs and I don't know if I could deal with seeing things like that.

If you haven’t already, could you please go over “Garret with Ivan the Cat”? He stresses the hell out of his cat and forces him to be held so that the cat hisses at him, claws him, and bites him to the point of getting his claws stuck in his skin. He’s famous for picking his cat up and singing irritably loud which I believe has conditioned the cat to feel like he’s going to have his ears exploded and be pinned down against the person holding him whenever he is picked up, so now his automatic response is to attack. It breaks my heart to watch and I hardly ever see anyone saying anything about it.

They have vets they go to for sick animals and will euthanize ones they have to, it’s not only against policy to throw out live animals it’s also ILLEGAL depending on local/country laws!! Pet stores DO NOT throw out live animals..I wish people would stop believing this. Ones that do are because of bad employees (they get fired when found out fyi), the store chain itself is rightfully against it.
Also, they wouldn’t toss the fish out with water and containers even if they did put animals back there..that’s costly. Pet stores (specifically the big chain ones idk about smaller ones) usually have freezers to store dead animals where they’re later cremated (kill shelters ALSO do this, no one just throws out live or dead animals in the trash usually..except pet owners). Most of the time if you find a live animal out back near or in the dumpster it was probably someone who bought a pet, tried to return it, couldn’t, and threw it out back because they didn’t care..
That poor poor guinea pig
I worked at a different animal pet place- we did throw away dead animals (this is canada btw) but never live. Sometimes it does happen that an animal is thrown away on accident (rodents hiding in bedding or animals that are improperly euthanized) but we didnt freeze everything

The interesting thing about dumpster divers is that all the animals/fish are bagged. On of the biggest hustlers is quite a big youtuber with over

But the first thing I noticed throughout the videos I just watched- it is incredible how many times you say one and the same thing over and over and over again. :D This video could have been a 5min one. But I defo will keep watching your work, you are doing a great thing out there! :)
Also look up bubble eye goldfish (it would make my friend happy)

That bird squeak 😂😂😂
I’ve seen so many young kids getting those axolotls at the minute they’re “trendy” I’ve never had one but even I know they’re extremely temperamental and hard to care for honestly some of the set ups these kids are getting them in is awful it’s obvious their parents have just bought them knowing nothing about them just cos their kid wanted one
lmao the last one 😭
Damn that's a chonky ahh hamster
10:47 am I the only one that saw smt like fly away here
So when I heard about that now viral video about those dumbed boxes in the container in a video of another yter I immediately went "Dude, they are fake af, how people don't know that?" Being reminded of your previous video on that topic until it got mentioned that apparently Petsmart openly apologized on Twitter about it and some alleged workers in the comments mentioned that they had to dumb some in the past.
Im still suspicious of that whole topic but the fact that Petsmart went out on twitter to apologize about it...•-•
Idk how to feel about it.
Is there actually some truth to it?
Did they only planned to please the outraged crowd knowing they wouldn't believe em?
If it's not true, wouldn't they have called it out like this on Twitter?
Man idk bout that rlly
yum yum the tiel is my favorite
my toxic trait is taking all of those fish home, i think petsmart/co doesnt properly take care of animals for people feel bad and buy them.
Could you maybe do a video on pet cloning if you know anything about it?
It’s not abuse, whatever people say.
Dog is like WTF💀
In the Pearl farming video, the whole narrative was about OOOH What colour will the pearl be?
Ugh. Makes me sick they didn't even address the axolotls :(
