Thank you for telling the truth that no matter what we do, we will always have a big of redness. This makes me feel better because I can honestly only feel confident when I have a green primer and a very light powder on my face. I used to be insecure because I didn’t want to be one the girls that has to wear makeup everyday but now I know it’s because of my own genetics 💜
Rosacea patient here. Used Ivermectin cream for over 2 years now and that has helped greatly, as well as several Excel V treatments. I found they worked great initially however the last couple of maintenance treatments have not been as good and I have barely noticed a difference…but I also could have an unrealistic expectation of what I want my skin to look like. Have also purchased pretty much the entire Prequel line now 😅. Excited for the redness serum which I started a week ago 😊
Rosacea with flushing here. I have noticed a drastic difference with getting VBeam from my dermatologist and using my Omnilux mask a few times a week. Also would recommend consistent use of products containing Centella like the Purito unscented Centella serum, Klairs midnight blue calming cream, Purito dermide cica barrier sleeping pack, Dr Jart Cicapair, LRP Cicaplast, bioderma cicabio. And for general redness I also use LRP Rosaliac AR Intense serum
Thankyou for letting us know that it's ok to keep using foundation if I feel better with it on. So many women I know like to brag about not wearing foundation because they don't care, but they don't have the redness I do.
I so appreciate the thoroughness of this video. I wish you offered virtual consultations. I've been to all 5 of the dermatologists in my little city, and none of them think my rosacea is worth worrying about. I've been prescribed ivermectin, but it doesn't make a difference. I've had IPL and VBeam, but the derms themselves didn't perform the treatments. Medical assistants and NP did, and it felt quick and half haphazard. And then, anytime I reference a doctor from social media and their recommendation, it's met with disapproval.
Just wanted to let you know that you've got quite the fan club here at the clinic I work at. Your channel is a favorite among all the estheticians, and we always look forward to your content!
I recently purchased the Prequel moisturizer, redness serum and one other serum - amazing formulations and they really made any redness much better within days
Hi Dr. Ellis, I have been a big fan and have watched numerous videos on various topics. I also have rosacea along with sun damage (my generation we didn't know better, but even when I did, I hit the tanning salons - oops big mistake). I have done IPL on a monthly basis for my face with 50% improvement. I was told not to expect a miracle because of the many issues I have going on (sun damage, large pores, brown spots, telangiectasis, scars from skin cancer surgeries, ugh). I do understand how much this affects my ability to participate confidently in the world. One dermatologist suggested I have resurfacing done as I have bumpy skin (from rosacea) making it difficult for me to cover up with makeup without it looking noticeable (well to be frank - horrible). Thanks for all you do. I will check out the other video that is specifically dealing with rosacea.
15% Azelaic acid is great for rosacea - it’s very safe, usually non irritating and works well with many other actives. It’s usually prescription (Finacea) but you can also find it over the counter in lower concentrations.
I have rosacea. It took two years of keeping a food diary to figure out what caused my rosacea to flare. Alcohol and extreme weather, sun or cold and wind. Spicy food causes mild redness. Some vinegars also caused redness. Lots of sun protection with sunscreen and hats. I do use tretinoin and Azelaic acid. It was a pretty challenging time in my life but I have it farely well under controlled now.
I also have rosacea (and eczema…). One thing that made it worse was when I decided to do something for wrinkle and texture. The plastic surgeon (at a recognized esthetic medical clinic, with both derms and surgeonsnot, but I should have known…) convinced me to go for fraxel. BAD, BAD idea. For the next two years, the rosacea was worse than ever. So, if you have reddish, sensitive skin, be very wary of any harsh procedures…
With the summer travel season upon us, I’d love to get a skincare packing video from you. I know I can’t bring my whole arsenal so I’d love tips on how you’d pair down to the essentials/what you’d go without. ❤
I was just about to comment asking if you could address lupus (I have it) and you brought up the malar rash just as I hit the comments section! Thank you for raising awareness about it!
I don't have rosacea but since I was a little girl (now 43) I've had very rosy cheeks. I used to hate it and I think that's partly because it got me attention to myself and I was already shy. I was told by a therapist that people are born shy so it's not a character trait. Also I had an open heart surgery when I was an infant (1981) and they accidentally damaged a nerve for my left vocal cord which ended up paralyzing it so it left my voice, when I was little, very hoarse and raspy and soft. Every time I opened my mouth someone was either asking what was wrong with my voice or make fun of my voice and remind you, I was already shy. So having to explain that yes I am ok. When I would do pe or just have outdoor fun, my cheeks would get even more red! So I would have to say that it's natural for me and again I didn't like talking, mainly to strangers, that much. It has gotten more under control now and I have actually grown to like it. I'll never need to use blush. I actually don't wear any makeup but still I like that I have natural blush only because it's not like rosacea.
I’ve had four Vbeam PDL laser sessions and I’m on topicals (metronidazole, azeliac acid, & ivermectin). I’m still very red and have lost hope that it will ever be under control. :(
I had 3 rounds of V-beam treatment at $450 each and could not have been more disappointed. Seriously did nothing for my redness. Just an absolute waste of a lot of money.
I have rosacea and very intense daily flushing that has started to cause a bit of baseline redness. Do lasers work if your baseline redness is minor and flushing is your main issue? My flushing comes with so much heat and discomfort and so just about everything triggers it!
Thank you for this,as someone who has dealt with rosacea/seborrhea/oily skin/breakout prone,it has drained me emotionally.Does Ivermectin help with redness or mainly for the acne kind of rosacea? Also thoughts on Azaleic Acid for redness? If do ipl,how often is usially recommended,if do monthly can it cause more issues after awhile?
Will at home LED masks help with redness? My dermatologist recommended doing an in-office laser procedure too but it’s out of my budget to spend $300/session for 3-4 sessions
I actually can’t believe I forgot to mention them in this in the video! Yes, they can be helpful because of their ability to reduce inflammation! They won’t get rid of dilated blood vessels, but can help with background redness.
In the AM I’ve been using prequel spray, then prequel vitamin c, then prequel redness reform, then moisturizer/spf. Is this the right order? Should I not be using these together and splitting across AM and PM routines? Thanks!
Hi there any recommendations about neurogenic rosacea please? My face is burning red since I took a medication for something else and caused me neurogenic rosacea any supplements or products when I go inside a building my face starts getting hot and burning Thanks
To add one of the Prequel products you recommend in this video, how would I incorporate it into my existing routine? I currently do the following AM: cleanse, toner, Vit. C, moisturizer/SPF; PM: cleanse, toner, tretinoin, night cream. Do I add it in AM or PM or both? I assume the spray could replace my toner, but what about the serum, do I add it before or after Vit. C and before or after tretinoin?
I just found your channel so I am a new subscriber and will be binge watching for awhile! Can you recommend (or direct me to a video you have already recorded) the best skin care for someone in their 70's (asking for a friend, of course!)? I've been a skin care junkie since I was 11 and my mother handed me a jar of Noxema (back then it was "the" thing to use) and said "take care of your skin!" I am always on the lookout for whatever might be new or better. but do have my "old" favorite. Thanks! Back to binging......
Be careful of being prescribed medication for redness. I was wrongly diagnosed at 15 by my doctor because he thought I had rosacea. After a year and a half of the medication I stopped because it wasn’t doing anything and since then I have been struggling with gut problems, UTI’s, you name it. The meds destroyed my good gut bacteria and now at 30 I’m finally getting it back under control. Being put on meds for something you don’t have sucks. All I’m saying is get a second opinion before letting anyone put you on meds. It can be overwhelming wanting to just fix the redness but remember there are a bunch of reasons why you could be having redness. Hope this helps someone ❤
I’ve literally tried every ingredient that’s supposed to help with redness, the ONLY thing that made a difference is BBL laser. Save your money and do the lasers.
Hello Iam an Italian dermatologist ...I have been following you for a few days ..you are very prepared and clearin your presentation but could be fine a few sessions of KTP laser for a fixed redness at the base of the neck? Sorry for my english !😊
Thank you Dr. Sam Ellis! I have rosacea and thanks to you I have finally (!) found a sunscreen that I can use (BOJ). This has changed my skin, it's less sensitive and I am able to tolerate more! I would love to buy your Prequel line, but sadly I live in Germany. Will you expand your shipping to Europe at some point?
My redness along with sun damage, melasma and sun spots, is alot to manage and also affects my self-esteem. For someone on a very strict budget do you recommend something more affordable.
I have fair skin and between most likely sun damage and not treating my damaged skin barrier for so long, my redness has gotten worse over the last couple of years. I just started using the Redness Reform and LOVE IT!!! I love all of the Prequel products I have started incorporating into my skin care routine! I'm going on my 2nd bottle of Hypochlorous Acid! Dr. Ellis thank you so much for all of the time and hard work you put into your products, research, and also your patients/followers. I feel reassured if I'm using anything that is Dr. Ellis approved and love your recommendations! I can't wait to see what Prequel comes out with next!
Flushing, that's me..is there any fix for it ? Any makeup that can cover it for when my neck turns red ,which is so embarrassing btw...anything? Thanks so much ! I love yoir channel,so informative ❤
I have rosacea caused by the nasty little demodex mites! I tried metrogel which did pretty much nothing for me. I have gotten and continue to get vbeam treatments which have helped greatly. I also wash in the morning with a mild cleanser that has a probiotic and I have recently started using your hypochlorous acid and that seems to be helping as well. I wear a zinc based sunscreen...NO chemicals! And I work on keeping my skin barrier healthy.
Your r patients are in the best hands. Great education. I have broken vessels on my cheek; they are round and use to be brown spots if that makes sense. I will get it looked at. I had a severe sunburn as a child with swelling and blistering all over the face. I only started with good sun protection 20 years ago and now in my 50's.
I also need to add this because I suffer from flushing however at one point I had constant redness and it ended up being due to using too many harsh products at once on a daily basis - ahas/bhas and retinol. I even bought azeliac acid to help however this also had bha in it which made everything worse and I kept trying to power through thinking it would reduce. I had to take a step back and fix my skin barrier and now my constant redness is gone :) slow and steady wins the race :D
@@amnakhan17 Stop using all products such as retintol, exfoliators etc. Wash fash with gentle cleanser and use hydrating healing products such as rice serums, centella asiatica etc. I also used la roche posay b5 as a moisturiser but you could also use a moisturiser followed by sudocream etc. Once all healed, SLOWLY add some products back but really you only need a few products, less really is more when it comes to skincare
Thank you for sharing your experience ❤ May I know, how did you recover from redness? I have also issue on my cheeks, i went derma many times for consultation and saying I have sensitive skin, I notice lots of factor it's trigger my redness like stress, weather, and food.. I have a hard time,. My mental state affect due to this....
Thanks for the info! I’ve been struggling with moderate to severe rosacea ever since I started breastfeeding my daughter 4 years ago. I never had it prior. I’m now breastfeeding my son and still have it. I was told by my derm it was the hormones but it’s been like this so long I’m scared it will never go away. You mentioned “hormonal shifts” and pregnancy in your video.. would you say breastfeeding can cause it as well? I’m on clindamycin and metro which helped with the acne but I’m still bright red all the time. It’s terrible.
I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this! everyone’s skin is different, but I found going to an ob/gyn who specializes in bioidentical hormone therapy was extremely helpful for my hormone issues and even helped with my rosacea a little bit! ☺️
New subscriber.. can’t wait to try from prequel! Do you have any inputs for folks who has redness as post inflammation or barrier disruption? I am of skin type between 3&4.. and started retinoid recently.. the redness on the sides of nose(not the fold, but above like nose to cheek side) is a lot.. what can help this? How to continue retinoid during times like this? I do use moisture sandwich method
Welcome! Typically if someone is red from skin barrier disruption, I recommend stopping retinoids and acids until the redness has fully subsided. It can take a while to work up a tolerance some of those topicals and it’s okay to take breaks to allow your skin barrier to restore itself. Using a thicker balm in the evening can also help!
Is it flushing/rosacea or a sunburn? I went on a three hour hike. I wore a broad brim hat with 3 inch brim, Elta MD UV Shield SPF 45, layered over that I used Zealios SPF 45 AND layered over that I used Skin Better Tone Smart SPF 75 AND I used a Coolibar faceshield. My face feels warm and flushed since I got home. I look pink/red in the cheeks. I do take 10mg isotretinoin once a week and use tretinoin micro 0.06% at bedtime every night. I just don't get it. Can I actually be sunburned even with all those protective methods? HELP.
It's great to hear an overview of what can cause redness, as commonly you only hear of rosacea... I thought I may have rosacea for the last couple of years, but maybe it's just flushing (I was always prone to flushing, getting worse over time); if I have a long-time redness I typically can trace it back to some kind of skin irritation event. The flushing can be pretty annoying though, triggered by harsh weather and emotions - also positive ones, not just stress. I have been changing my skincare routine little by little and now my skin is quite stabilized - more resistant to irritation and flushing is reduced. I'm using a chemical sunscreen with modern filters (no avobenzone and octocrylene), rosacea creme by Uriage, antioxidant serum in the morning, an essence with added calming ingredients as my hydration step (specifically I look for niacinamide and beta-glucan, calming plant extracts are just a bonus, but the main thing is the heavy hydration with a blend of humectants) and copper peptides. I'm confident that all these things contributed to the improvement of my skin and this winter I even dared to start introducing a retinoid. You got me interested in hypochlorous acid, I'll try it. If it doesn't help, I'll end up with just a disinfectant - and that is also good :D
Hello, I love your videos, I have a question, I hope you read me, I am thinking about buying the coppertone sports spray, do you think it is a good product?
Would you be willing to do a video on Resveratrol? I have heard such good things about it as a supplement or even as an ingredient in skincare products and it almost sounds too good to be true. I have had a hard time with doing any research because so many articles I have found online don’t seem reliable
So I have a slightly off topic question. When dermatologists speak about reducing dark spots on one’s face, are dark spots due to hyperpigmentation the same as dark spots caused by sun damage? Can you reduce dark spots caused by sun damage the same way one treats hyperpigmentation or does sun damage require laser treatments to even one’s tone? Thank you.
Is so nice to see a video that talks about general redness instead of it being related to skin conditions, I have had a pinky reddish skin tone since childhood and emotional flushing, seeing this is so refreshing!
Exactly . I do not have rosacea or any other obvious condition but I’ve always had a pinkish tone which has always bothered me . I would get laser if I could afford it to get rid of it permanently .

After I did Accutane for a year now I always have rosacea

I wear a zinc based sunscreen...NO chemicals! And I work on keeping my skin barrier healthy.
I hate my face when I get red every one always says something about it
What about PIE that was caused by trauma, not by acne?
How did u fix skin barrier?
HELP.
Only redness on both chiks (face ) what's treatment
Thank you - do you think it’s safe for psoriasis patients to have laser ? Could it precipitate a flare up ?
Hi there, are you able to do a segment on Mens Korean skincare. Thanks heaps.
My neighbor's doc said that he has intertrigo. I don't see much I about this on any Channels. Thank you❤
How can I buy a products?
So I have a slightly off topic question. When dermatologists speak about reducing dark spots on one’s face, are dark spots due to hyperpigmentation the same as dark spots caused by sun damage? Can you reduce dark spots caused by sun damage the same way one treats hyperpigmentation or does sun damage require laser treatments to even one’s tone? Thank you.
These are typically considered different spots and often will respond to different treatments!
I want prequel in Canada Québec !!!😭
Me too! 🙈
Dr. Ellis, was wondering if your Prequel Gleanser is ok to use for seb derm of the face?
It’s safe for that but not a specific Seb derm treatment
@@DrSamEllisThank You for your reply. 😊
Gleanser is showing out of stock. Any idea when it will be back in stock?
Hopefully within 2 weeks!
@@DrSamEllisThanks for that information! I went to purchase it today, and was so disappointed. Can’t wait to try it. 🙂
