Lost in New York? Understand the avenues and streets of Manhattan, New York City (NYC). We'll talk about getting around the city, a guide to street signs, and how to walk around New York. Understand directions, addresses, and a little bit of New York City history.
When you’re in New York, you’ll often hear people toss around locations like 34th and 7th, or mention an address as 89 East 42nd Street. Don’t let these seemingly complicated street formulas put you in a panic. Knowing the Manhattan numeric street naming system is actually not that difficult. So let’s begin.

Also, it's just Broadway, not Broadway St. If anything, it would be an avenue anyway

@@JoseNunez-hh1yr Almost all travel videos showing how to use the subway system go way too fast. It's already second nature for native New Yorkers, but for us aging senior citizens and foreign tourists, it can be confusing. I have been to NYC three times in the last 10 years, and still experience a learning curve each time. Metro Card...can you get one card, load it with a 7 day unlimited pass AND load money on it for things that don't fall under the unlimited portion? ie. Airtrain... And how about ferries, and the tram to RI?

My home town Sapporo is similar to this. We say North/South before East/West, and there’s also a 0 for both.
Our Houston (house-ton) Street runs east-and-west and is called Ōdōri (literally “the large street”), and our numeric standard is “North/South [number] East/West [number]”, with “Ōdōri” replacing North/South = 0 and “Chūō” (center) replacing East/West = 0.
For example, the center of Sapporo station is at Kita 6-jō Nishi 3-chōme (North 6 West 3).

Hello! Just subscribed, saw your layout vid. Good AV use. Just posted to Brighttrip about the urban legend: The Manhattan Street Key. Need to find 1234 Madison Ave? Drop the 4(123), divide by 2(62), the key says add 23(+62=85) 1234 Mad is between 85th and 86th st. Used to be in every NYC phone book for ages. It's a north-South thing, seeing that east- west is mostly covered by the old timey system of 100,200,300, etc. from the middle, whatever it may be.

The streets in the shity are designed now to make driving as miserable as possible. All these “improvements “ have nothing to do with safety. 5 lane streets melted into 1. Lanes taken away for pedestrian space. Then super sized flower pots are out there so now even pedestrians can’t use the lane. So what does that have to do with safety?! Just taking lanes away to make driving as miserable as possible.
