Hi! I just want to commend you for your quality content! They are easy to understand and fun to watch! ♥️ I have no plans whatsoever of going to New York anytime soon but it is one of my ultimate dreams! Watching your videos makes me feel more inspired to do better and fulfill this dream someday. ✨ Keep doing what you’re doing! Sending love from the Philippines! Take care and God bless! ♥️🙏🏼
We're a FilAm seniors from San Francisco that will be visiting NYC for 4 days Summer of 2022. We were in NYC about 20yrs ago for only 2 days. Because we took a train to Montreal. This time we will be on a plane coming from Montreal. After careful study of your videos. I decided to book our first 2 days stay at lower East Side. I wanted to have bagels with smoked salmon for breakfast so will stay at Houston St Close to my daughter bagels and also love pastrami on rye sandwiches. And then book a2 night hotel near time square. I have lots of time before our trip. things can change. We had travelled a lot and in different part of the world. I know that a good planning is very important. Thank you so much for your videos. I will be studying it every day.
Thank you for watching! There are so many things to do in New York. I hope you get to do everything you want to do. And yes, there's plenty of time to plan. Good luck!
We've just returned from our first trip to NYC, we stayed in midtown but did go into Brooklyn to walk over the bridge and got the subway back uptown from City Hall. We are aiming to return next year and will explore more of LM now that we've got the "tourist attractions" out of the way. Very informative video thank you.
Welcome to New York! And thanks for watching my videos. Hopefully I can make more "guide" videos once the weather is warmer and things open up some more.
Nice video. You look very young, but I remember the East Village back in the seventies. Man, that area was so bad, cops wouldn't even answer calls there. I have a cousin who live in the EV for a number of years. She's since moved out to Astoria. She says aside from the rents becoming outrageous, crime is still very much an issue.
No real New Yorker says let’s go to the Bowery section of Manhattan like we say let’s go to the Village or East Village. We just combine that section into the neighborhood we are going to. Example “upper Bowery would just be the East Village.
I believe that Greenwich Village was named after a place in England. Greenwich Mean Time GMT is 0 degrees longitude and all other time zones radiate out of Greenwich. The Bowery is from the Dutch - at one time this was Skidrow. The Civic District was once Five Points: it vied with London's Whitechapel District as the worst slum in the Western world. Back in my youth Center St was NYC police hq. The surrounding area was residential with a character all it's own. Since then Police Plaza has evolved and most of the neighborhood is now gov't buildings. The late, great Al Smith - Governor of NY and 1928 Presidential candidate was born in Two Bridges in 1873. He was the first Roman Catholic to run for President. America wasn't ready for a Catholic yet.
Love your videos Thea! My family and I will be visiting next month and staying at near Tribeca and Canal Street (really hope there's no smell now!) LOL =)
This is helpful as I plan on visiting NY next year, but since it's my first time going, I'd like to research and create an itinerary! Is traffic hectic in all those areas and what times is traffic the worse?
That's great! The weather should be great by then. For food, my personal favorite area to check out is Greenwich and the East Village. But every neighborhood tends to have their own culinary gems. If it's your first time, the classic spots like Central Park, World Trade Center, Chinatown, Time Square, an observation deck on any of the tall towers (Top of the Rock, One World, or The Edge) are recommended. Those double decker bus ride tours are pretty good. As a local, I really like the Highline, walking the Brooklyn Bridge from Brooklyn into Manhattan, and taking the NYC ferry along the East River. Hopefully I can make a tourist video soon!
love to see if you can breakdown messy streets in lower manhattan, every time i get off the train at world trade centre from NJ i have to use Google maps no matter how many times i go to same streets
I read somewhere that that the spelling of William Houstoun's name was just mispelled to Houston on some of the signs and the rest is history. Then somehow ,even his name is known to be now😂 spelled both ways maybe because of this supposed mishap.Dont know if any of this is true. But, love the area.
Excellent, just the kind of videos I was looking for. Many Thanks! Could you put up a scale bar on the map so we can gauge the size of the areas? Also, are some of the areas noticeably small when walking through them? On the map for example, Little Italy looks tiny
Hi there. I basically used Google Maps if you want to reference that for scale (I can't edit the video). Little Italy and other areas are indeed small. Manhattan is actually not that big. I can cross it from east to west in about 45 mins to an hour.
Hi there. Yeah, from what I understand New Amsterdam was everything south of Wall Street. Wall Street got its name because it used to be the north wall of the town.
Good job. I agree with pretty much everything you say….EXCEPT, you’re pronouncing of “Lafayette” is just not the way New Yorkers say it. Otherwise, very good!
I’m a native New Yorker. Lower Manhattan refers to the financial district south of Chambers Street. Greenwich Village isn’t considered part of Lower Manhattan. Also, Bowery really isn’t a neighborhood. It’s pronounced Laugh-fay-yet, not La-fai-yet. My favorite neighborhood is Chinatown. There are many great restaurants. Also, you can take in the sites and sounds. Washington Square Park is also a nice hangout place. Whenever the weather’s nice, they have outdoor concerts.
Yes, you are truly an educator to the world!! Thank you for breaking down often times confused areas and topics of NYC. You are the best!!!
Graphics are great, really helps to see where it all fits 🤓
Thanks! I really appreciate it.
4:57 You cracked me up there. Let me say it for you: yes, it still smells - mostly the fishy garbage from restaurants and grocery stores.
Happy to hear that the East Village is your favorite neighborhood. I grew up there.
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR THIS you're literally such a brilliant content creator I cannot wait to see what else you share :D
such an underrated content creator.
Your videos are those I like the most among the New York videos on UA-cam!
Wow, many thanks!
Thank you! Super clear, and to the point. I learned a lot. Love your sense of humor. 💃🏼

That's such a sweet message! 😊I hope you do get to visit too. And I'm glad my videos are helpful. Thank you for watching!
Love the visual map!!
The East Village is the best neighborhood in Manhattan! Just signed a lease to move there in mid March.
Nice! That's my favorite part Manhattan. Hope you like it even more after you move in.

Well done!!! Been in NYC nearly 30 years now and still get lost below 14th street!!!!
Everywhere smells lately.
I call it "Jugo de basura"
Thanks! Below streets 14th is a mess. Also, I think that's a very good name for the smell 😂

I wasn't around during the 70s but it seems like it was a rough time for many areas of New York.
I'm from LA and never been to New York. Thanks for the explanation.
U knw ur like a light house to many
Awesome videos
Do you have a video on toilets in new york for tourist? Great info by the way. Subscribed.
Wonderful video! Thank you. Just letting you know -check audio pronunciation of "Lafayette".
I was looking for this comment.

It never occurred to me that I only say “The Village” when I mean West Village lol
she is not a real new yorker . so odd to do these
Nice I will watch it when I have time
We need these for the other Burroughs!

You’re voice is so soothing. You should make a sleepapp
So great the maps help sooo much!!!!
Thank you for watching! And I'm glad this was helpful. I plan to make more "map" videos of New York. 😊
@@UrbanCaffeine I'm visiting for 5 days at the end of the month. Any specific things a local recommends(me and my friend are big foodies)

Thanks! I'm currently binge watching all yours and Sarah funkys (funkes?) Videos
Makes sense that Little Italy merges into Chinatown since basil and noodles, two iconic parts of Italian cuisine, both come from Asia.
thanks that was an excellent presentation.!
Thanks Thea 😊👍🇹🇹🇹🇹
Please make the videos about the clusters! I am loving your videos
Definitely will. Thank you for watching!
Very informative
Very interesting. Thank you.
The Seaport is also a neighborhood that’s east of FiDi at and around Pier 17. You didn’t mention Hudson Sq., the neighborhood west of Soho.
what do you use to make the illustrations and also what do you use to make these videos?
u r awesome!!
I like to your vedios keep it up I understand about your vedios
Thanks for watching!
love to see if you can breakdown messy streets in lower manhattan, every time i get off the train at world trade centre from NJ i have to use Google maps no matter how many times i go to same streets
You and me both! Things are iffy below Houston St. But maybe we can find a way to simplify it.
I read somewhere that that the spelling of William Houstoun's name was just mispelled to Houston on some of the signs and the rest is history. Then somehow ,even his name is known to be now😂 spelled both ways maybe because of this supposed mishap.Dont know if any of this is true. But, love the area.
Thanks!
You're welcome! Thanks for the tip. 😊
I'd love to see more!
Thanks! It's slow going, but happy to make these videos.
do you have soecial feature on Chinatown and koreatown?
I did a video on Koreatown but it's a bit old at this point: ua-cam.com/video/ezFqEa4oJTw/v-deo.html
Hi Thea! Proud fello Filipino here. Can you do a review on top weekend markets in NY?
Hi! I'll jot that down as an idea. Thanks.

What's the neighborhood west of SoHo/northwest of Tribeca? I've looked at several different neighborhood maps and they all show it as nothing!
Is New Amsterdam in lower Manhattan?
Hi there. Yeah, from what I understand New Amsterdam was everything south of Wall Street. Wall Street got its name because it used to be the north wall of the town.
What does chelsea stand for
Chelsea is named after the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, England.
What about the ferry system ????
The Staten Island Ferry is at the tip of Manhattan. Take the 1 train to South Ferry or the R and W to Whitehall. It’s free.
enjoyable
Thank you for watching! I recently did a video on the Upper East Side if you are interested... ua-cam.com/video/4droS3UkJp0/v-deo.html
🤩
👍👍👍😎
Hi urban caffeine
Its Lah fie ette (Lafayette)
Lol, thanks for the correction!
Depends if your Cajun or not .they say laaaahhhh faaaaaa yet.
@@howardwayne3974
That's an accent inflection though so you can't really count that lol
I love your videos but the back music is super annoying - just your words are enough 🙂
Good job. I agree with pretty much everything you say….EXCEPT, you’re pronouncing of “Lafayette” is just not the way New Yorkers say it. Otherwise, very good!
The music doesn't seem happy
Thanks for watching! Gosh, this was one of my earlier videos. I hope to redo this one in a year from now.
this mic is blowing out my ears yooo
