Ugly. He did really well considering. Is he the best one there? No. But he did his best. Really, considering who's there, it could have been much worse. He was a teen pop star. And he agreed to do this. Took guts. I don't think he does d it because he thought he was as good as the others. He did it for the thrill of performing with those extremely talented folks at the top 🎩 f their game. Again, took guts. I was never a big g fan of his, but my now 18 year old Granddaughter was! Her step dad had a cousin who looked a lot t like Nick. Cute young teen with curly hair!! She was a pretty little curly haired girl with a huge crush. So I knew who he was. I still think he had a lot of guts and probably had a great time. Be nice. It doesn't cost you anything.
I know right. That is quite likely the worst casting decision in the history of bad casting. Though I do think his voice got less Pop sounding throughout the production
+TheDiabethick Probably for the same reason "they" cast Gerard Butler as the Phantom in the movie version of POTO - for younger (pop/rock-ish) appeal. Terrible, terrible decisions.
He played Gavroche as a child way before he was known as a jonas brother. Though I agree he wasn't right for the role they put him in, he does know the production very well and they probably tried to fit him in somewhere more than they would with others because he clearly can't play gavroche anymore.
From what I have seen of Samantha I think she was probably honored...and Lea was too. Samantha came to "fame" singing weekly under the scrutiny of Andrew Lloyd Weber (I'd Do Anything, the talent search show), even singing his song "Memory" in a sing off with Rachel Tucker (which she won). They are both such gracious, classy performers. Also the "original" Eponine was Frances Ruffle and Lea certainly had already redefined the songs by the 1995 concert. All of these women bring such a rich talent in acting and singing to that important character, I enjoy them all!
@@leooo266 I am just impressed by good performers and once I find them I do maybe go a little overboard on finding out more about them as people too. I like to share what I discover with others when I can so they can enjoy a broader picture of these people as well. It's a bit "fannish" but it sure is fun and rewarding when I find some truly great talents who are also great people...like Lea and Samantha. Thanks for the comment.
@@leooo266 ua-cam.com/video/lYJmk7EQSYM/v-deo.html This is a video of the sing off. The show was to cast someone for the role of Nancy in "Oliver". Sam didn't win but wouldn't really have been the best one for the role at that time anyway (although she did play it later). Actually Cameron Mackintosh was also there, as he was the producer of Oliver.. This was one of about 40 songs they had to learn in 8 weeks and Samantha was 17, had just entered for experience. She may or may not have been nervous here in this video but if so, I suspect it is not because of Lea, who is super sweet too.
I think that Nick is not a bad singer, but he shouldn't have been casted for a mayor role. His voice is not strong enough and all the other voices make him dissapear.
Nick's voice is actually good, maybe not powerful enough for big broadway shows, but he is quite charming and perfect fit for Marius role in terms of physical aspects hehe
EXACTLY. Good voice but dwarfed by comparison. I felt badly watching him during the performance wondering why he was there in the first place. He doesn't have the power and projection all the others possess.
Is very hilarious seeing the friendship between Ramin and Hadley here considering that they are practically enemies in The Phantom of the Opera as Raoul and The Phantom
I love Colm and John-Owen, but when Alfie just steps up, he just out-powers them all. And the clarity of his voice. If you look at him, he's not even trying! What a wonder!
Alfie Boe's cracking me up. He has his arms crossed and then he just opens his mouth and his amazing, thunderous voice just BOOM! XD ... Can I do that too?
I actually saw him before he came to Broadway. I flew to Toronto to see him. And it was worth every penny. Hopefully I can make it to New York before he finishes his run in Les Miz.
Ramin , Hadley and Alfie could sing the alphabet and still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!! Throw Michael Ball in and I’m completely lost!! 🥰
Alfie Boe has the A-MA-ZING! Voice ever. I was lucky to hear him sing Bring Him Home a few years ago at the London Palladium. You could have heard a pin drop and the raw emotion was something else.
If anyone’s curious about Ramin’s hair here, I watched an interview from around the same time and I believe he said he grew it out to cover up marks left by the phantom make up/prosthetics. I might have my timelines mixed up, but I think he was doing LND at the time.

Singers like Nick Jonas and Gareth Gates an bring a whole new audience to Les Mis and musical theater. A friend of mine originally only agreed to see Les Mis because Gareth Gates was in it. She loved the show, and now regularly watches musical theater on the West End. I'm sure there are many Les Mis fans, who only saw the show originally because of Nick Jonas.
Bridie finally a bit of common sense. Nick Jonas can’t compete vocally with Alfie Boe but then Alfie Boe hasn’t sold millions of records. Room for all in musical theatre especially those with millions of fans worldwide.
Love. Love. Love! I absolutely love Les Mis! Thank you so much for putting this up. I loved seeing them so casual and seeing the work behind everything since I know how much work goes into high school shows. I can't imagine how much goes into major performances like this.
I've also wanted Ramin in the movie. I think his Enjolras is the best one, but he wouldn't convince as a student, he's too old. ;/ But at least Colm, Samantha, Hadley, Fra Fee and Killian are part of the cast. And I have to say... Killian and Fra Fee performances were the most heartbreaking of the barricade cast.
there´s a 3rd part of this? because at the ends.. is like you cut it... or this is the last one? but thanks for upload it!!!!! this is just amazing!! their voices are just incredible!!!!!!!
Damn, Ramin was DROWNING out Nick with that voice.
iamyourfather1111 Thank God for that!
iamyourfather1111 Nick... N8ck is not good for this role. Nope. Stick to your own songs buddy
Samantha brought shivers across my spine. She's amazing!
(I won't repeat how amazing Ramin is. Everybody knows it anyway)
Ramin with singing with Nick Jonas is just hilarious
More of unfortunate than hilarious
I keep forgetting it's a duet

I thought Ramin was brilliant at The Phantom but now I see he is brilliantly capable of doing EVERYTHING his way and no one stops him.
TOO TRUE!!!!!
SAME HERE!!!!
Yeah.
I love his Enjolras
Ramin could perform Les Miserables as a one man show.
Apologies to the Thénardiers, but that Jonas Bro on a stage with Colm Wilkinson, Alfie Boe, and Lea Salonga is the funniest thing ever.
I wouldn't say funny. It is more like... sad.
Unfortunate is more like it
Disturbing is more like it
On the actual night, when Michael Ball showed how Marius is actually sung - that was hilarious.
He must have felt so out of his depth bless him...but I'm sure he learned a lot...and he did play Gavroche in Les Mis as a child.
I also wanted Ramin in the movie. And Hadley too. To me, they're the perfect Enjolras and Grantaire.
Hadley was in the movie
Hadley was in the movie; he shot Grantaire! Suicide XD

Arielle Joy Adela always

And Hadley
I am!!
HADLEY TOO, PLEASE AND THANK YOU 😉
How they could cast a Jonas brother in this historical moment will always be a mystery.

I start bowing...

Matt smiling at Ramin while he's singing is so cute.
