PBS airs the National Memorial Day Concert, which also includes stories of soldiers from various wars and their families. It is very powerful and touching. As a matter of fact, Alfie Boe has sung at the concert before. This was one of the best of Alfie’s performances.

Apart from the fact that the BBC cut the entrance of the standard bearers from the TV programme is quite honestly disgusting as there were 80 RBL standard bearers and it is an RBL event i just dont understand how they got away with it but im sure the RBL will be asking the questions. I was one of the standard bearers

I was in the auditorium for the matinée performance of this. Two things happened for me, 1) I had to resist the urge to join in singing along with Alfie, as I adore the song & 2) it was one of five occasions during the festival that I had tears in my eyes. A sublime performance in memory of my fallen comrades.
I would have been bawling the whole time, considering my connection through my grandfather's service as a B-24 Liberator pilot in WWII and my adoration of him as a person. Soaked up those stories like a sponge. We are a theatre family, although I'm really the one who can sing and play anything. Saw Les Mis 7 times, memorized the score, and this song for high school talent show. Did the performance to 2000 people........crickets......mom was scared I was going to start slinging 4 letter words.........when everyone stood up and started screaming. My heart just about burst. Song was about prayer for saving of lives, and all I could do was grin and wave was I left the stage.
My brother passed away just a few weeks before Christmas. This prayer focuses all the sadness and grief. I'm still not done with the grieving. Still some difficult days to come.
The very difficult date for me - will be the 16th April - both my brother and sister in law had the same birthday date. That for me will be a very difficult day to face! I shall be away from Bristol for that day! So that I don't have to face it

We may not be great at some things but pageant and remembering our fallen boys and girls, nobody does it from the heart like us Brits do. No fakery, no hand on heart, no false sense of honour, we are always there, first up, first to defend , first to die for the cause, so first to be honoured and remembered.
My wife and I had the privilege of hearing him sing "Bring Him Home' when he was with the Les Miserables cast in New York City. Other him singing, you could have heard a pin drop. One of those times at a performance when the hair on the back of my neck stood up. A memorable performance.

It was Wilkinson who said it I think, and all the other Valjeans followed suit since, well, it was written for him
