My original DJI Avata has better video than my Autel EVO II. Autel is like 5-6 years behind in quality and same with any other American based drone company. Totally sucks they're pulling these shenanigans.
You can see companies that try to compete with DJI can do so, but not anywhere near the price point and the price is what is keeping them out of the market. PERIOD.
Americas tech companies wouldn’t be forced by China to shut down every phone tablet, network and desktop that’s ever been connected to a DJI , Tik Tok, bytedancesoftware in the event of war.. people think Apple and Google’s privacy checkboxes protect them but that’s a joke.. if it’s ever been installed it sits there like a Trojan horse just waiting to be activated.. this is why those in the know say if it’s ever been installed just throw it away and get a new phone.. and believe me I work professionally every day with DJI products and wish this wasn’t so.. not sure why no one talks about this real reason
This is the FIRST I've heard about the ban, I just flew my mini 3 pro for the first time and a while and was like "Man this drone and screen controller are amazing, DJI is such a cool company!" I would HATE for this to happen. so tired of these politicians just sucking off companies. They don't care about security or whatever, it's just about who's giving them money.
Watch which politicians/companies have invested in American drone companies lately... BAN the DJI, the biggest company in America, and BOOM.... people make billions.
Exactly. Add to that all the people posting videos and photos on social media which anyone can access and it makes their attempted ban look even more stupid. You already are not allowed to fly in certain areas and they will monitor for drones there plus DJI drones won’t go there due to geofencing anyway. The amount of data the chinese government could get from flight logs is overwhelming and would be very difficult to get anything useful from since the vast majority of flights, probably greater than 99 % are just normal recreational or commercial flights with no sensitive information. They also haven’t released any evidence that the drones are spying anyway, neither the government or third party security researchers, which makes it look very odd.
My rep listened. He doesn't support the comprehensive, across the board ban without any proof of illegal information gathering. He does support the American drone security act though. That act only bans purchase of foreign drones by most federal agencies. But it also has exemptions for NOAA, dept of transportation and the FAA for areas where not using them would compromise public safety. It does not ban anything below the federal level.
I disagree, if you approach the Members in ways that encourage their attention. It requires work, such as visiting their offices, writing an op-ed in the local newspaper, or hand-writing a letter. A preprinted postcard is guaranteed to land in the "don't waste time on this" bin.
That works both ways. Politician’s constituents don’t have to listen or rather follow their bs laws either. I guess we can add this to the list of felonies people supposedly commit every day. BTW, does anyone else think it’s convenient that they want to ban a product right after they make the product signal the government every time it gets activated?
I have a question. Wasn't Remote ID created so that our government can monitor every drone with a camera that flies in US Airspace? With Remote ID, all active DJI drones are already being monitored by our government. Which makes Congresses case for National Security Moot.
@@HawaiiAerialProductions on top of that, what use is most peoples flight data to China? You already are not allowed to fly in certain sensitive areas and they will be monitoring for drones anyway.
Thank you, Russ, for your continued work in keeping the drone community informed. I'll write to my senators with links to hopefully educate our government officials. Continued prayers for your wife's recovery and for your family🙏
We just posted on our Forj'd Media IG page and tagged her. We invited you to collab as well. I was on the phone Friday for over an hour with my Representative's office ( Rick Allen ). This is truly horrible what our elected officials are doing. Thank you for continuing to look out for us. You rock brother.
Hey Russ, Thanks for all your videos, really have a lot of good content. I have a quick question and would like your take on this. Concerning the DJI Ban. If I had a couple of new DJI drones in storage and the ban moves forward and I were to want to fly one of the new drones with the ban in place would these be of any use. In other words what about the firmware updates support etc. Do you think this would fly right out of the box. Would these even be usable in your opinion.
There will never be a war between China and America. A lot of things we depend on every day are made in China. And wouldn't cut their throats because they depend on the US for income. And if phones can bring up items in your view that you were having a conversation about with someone else in the room, I wouldn't doubt it with DJI products. The DJI ban is being pushed by the competition, not security. Yes I own a DJI drone. And I plan on upgrading soon with another DJI drone.
You have to actually have some data to educate them with. Some fact. Not just the opinion and crying bc your drone will not be FCC approved. You you have any first hand information on what data your drone collects? Do you have any examples of data that is sent to the DJI servers? It sends something because you can't fly the thing if your drone isn't up to date. It doesn't just know that by using the force. The fact is you don't know and are just making an uneducated argument.
Russ, I have not been able to update my flight data center information for "Total Distance", "Total Flight Time" and "Total Flights" on my RC2 and app on my DJI Fly app on my cell phone for my Air 3, since 06/18/24. The individual flights show since but is not updated to the top line of the "Flight Data Center" screen. Is this part of DJI not allowing flight data records to be synced to DJI? Is there something that I need to do to update it on my controller and app on my phone? I find this extremely usefull and use the data to keep track when I think I should change my propeller blades.
Thanks for continuing to make videos about this topic. It's important for all of us in the professional or hobbyist drone community to understand this issue.
It's going to the House of Representatives first, not the Senate. This would need to go through the House, *then* the Senate, then signed into law. Just to clarify things, because even if the House passes it, it has a few more hurdles. So contact your *representatives* first, then your Senators if this passes the House!
Actually, there is another bill in the Senate, it goes to both houses these days, then they use "the reconciliation rules" to merge them to be signed by the president. Been doing this since 1998 with all "Finance" bills.
The NDAA has already been reported out of committee. In the House, the opportunity to amend bills once reported is very limited. Not so in the Senate. Go for both houses if only to raise awareness of the anti-DJI campaign, but blocking this particular language is likely going to have to be done in the Senate, and then again in the subsequent House/Senate conference that comes up with the NDAA's final language.
Flight log data is an invaluable aid to all drone owners in the same way that airline operators use the data collected during every flight by the Digital Flight Data Recorder. Its use is in analysis of the drone’s performance during the flight and the battery’s performance down to the individual cells that make up the pack. It records the flight’s path in 3D so you can replay it as a layer in Google Earth. I use these info to educate myself and improve on future flights and to be aware of my battery’s performance from a maintenance standpoint. These flight data is used by DJI when there’s a Care Refresh claim. They are not just taking your word that you just had a catastrophic crash or flyaway. BTW, I’m from Surrey, BC
Was going to comment on old post thought this would be better. Ecoflow delta 2 running a great deal on their generators just got the Delta 2 with 2 100watt panels for 769$ (plus tax) shipped free to my door
What does turning off the sync with dji do to those of us who have a carefresh policy. If Dji does not have access to your logs, will they pay for a crash or flyaway?
They already don't "have access". You have to connect the drone to an internet connection and upload the logs for them to actually be able to see them. They still stay locally either way, so probably they'll just want you to send a copy of the specific log in question. Maybe just an attachment option on a submittal form.
Nope, it's time to graduate to big boy drone world where we fix em ourselves! Trust me it's way better, I haven't connected my Mavics and DJI 550 to the internet in years.
Way to go Russ. I've been a sub for years and watch you often. Thank you for details to this bill. I have several DJI products. Reading the comments from others, I think we all understand what this is really about. Congrats on your channel growth and keep on going brother!
Up until now I was assuming this was ban on sales and/or importation of DJI drones into the US. While that would be bad enough, I did not think in terms of it being effectively a ban on the use of drones that we already own. The proposed legislation would "block DJI’s drones from running on communications infrastructure in the U.S." What communications infrastructure are we talking about exactly? Most of my flying has been in remote areas with no wifi or cell service. I have seen articles that suggest the drone would be effectively unusable, but I don't see how that is the case. What am I missing?
It's just BS. Your current drones are fine. They have no way of remotely disabling them, or seeing a log of if you sent any signal to or from them. You will be able to keep flying any drone that uses a local controller connection. If you were using cell service or some internet server to remotely control it, THEN maybe they could stop you.
Thank you for talking about the us banning DJI. I really hope that doesn’t happen because I love to fly DJI drones and collect nice cinematic footage. When I was 9 years old in 2015 I used to fly sky viper drones wishing I had a DJI drone but my mom couldn’t afford it and now ever since I got my own DJI drone I have been worried if DJI is going to be banned. I am just letting you know that I will do anything to help prevent DJI from being banned. Thank you for explaining everything you know about the us banning DJI
What happens regarding flyaway info or data recorded in flight logs when questioning DJI over drone malfunction? If it cannot be submitted to DJI to investigate does that mean that the DJI product insurance is now not viable?
Very interesting - thanks very much for the information. I have one observation and two questions: 1. I have no doubt that DJI are being open and trustworthy with this statement of not allowing flight data to be uploaded, but the people that believe DJI are a threat to national security are just going to say "Ah, well, how do we know that there aren't other software capabilities that we can't identify, that will still upload sensitive data?" 2. I'm a UK citizen and I live in Spain, so I'm hoping that my ability to upload data to DJI won't be affected by this. However, if a US operator takes his UAV to somewhere outside the US, will he then be able to upload data to DJI? 2. How will this affect uploading flight and hardware data to Airdata? I rely on Airdata for managing my flight records and maintenance schedules?
Ok, question. Everywhere I read except the bill claims this is a ban. The Secure and Trusted Communications Network Act is for federally funded entities is it not? I understand this bill is scary and a step in the wrong direction, but it just adds DJI to list. It’s not a flat out ban for civilians.
I'm glad DJI is disabling the upload of flight data. That always made me uncomfortable. I never understood what the point of that was. Maybe you can make a video explaining what that was all about? In any case, you are right, this should shut up the politicians trying to ban DJI, but only if WE educate them.
It's also nice, because all your different drones can have a unified system for cloud based flight logs. That way you can check any of them without even having access to any of your drones. If one was stolen for example, and connected to internet, you could see the log and flight location.
Unfortunately no and I fully expect that eventually all DJI drones will be completely grounded by the FCC revoking the radio frequency authorizations. Our government doesn't give a crap about drone business owners or recreational flyers. I usually am not a negative person but this is the reality that we live in 🙁. Buying a DJI drone at this point is a huge gamble that you are buying a product that will become a paperweight.
Great videos Russ!! We need to figure out how to stop! Skydio from doing what it’s doing against DJI!!!.and for whatever going to happen with the upcoming election hoopla.this is the reason why we are worried about the ban..once again thank you Russ for all your hard work, and still thoughts and prayers for your wife’s speedy recovery..
It's not going to matter, I'm telling ya, unless someone outside of China buys the whole DJI operation, it will no longer exist in a couple years. China's economy is about to start circling the drain, we're talking a financial collapse a magnitude of 7-8 times what our great depression was, the govt. after that, probably a civil war or Chinese Revolution 2.0. If you get anything from China no a regular basis, better stock up while ya can.
Weird that they are citing national security and privacy when there are us companies like emdeon selling access to social security numbers to bpo companies in the Philippines.
Thanks for the information, Russ! I have been looking for a possible home back-up for emergencies. Do you recommend a particular Ecoflow that suits this?
It would be interesting to know, if I as a German drone pilot with my DJI M4P drone, could fly in the USA on vacation with my European drone, that still will have the fly log sync option.🤔
Lol, when I was being investigated I literally told the kid I've never been over 2k-ft away & if I did the data would be with the manufacture. I was loving RID b/c I didn't fly over any prisons.
While this is a good move to keep DJI flying in the US there are practical reasons for flight logs. They settle disputes if someone challenges you saying you are spying on them and you werent even near their property. Flight logs quickly end those disputes.
Afaik, you still have all your flightlogs, you just can't press the button to upload them to DJI, which I never do anyway. You can always pull them off your drone and analyze them yourself with other programs.
0:34 “Our lawmakers here in America have been on a quest…” I think it’d be more accurate to say “SOME of our lawmakers…” Of the fifteen cosponsors of Stefanik’s bill, only one, Raja Krishnamoorti of Illinois, is a Democrat.
DJI is making an odd move. Blocking users from uploading data smoke and mirrors. DJI could still upload data if you're connected to the Internet; a button is not required. That said, flight data from a drone is pretty useless. All of the important flight info (e.g., restricted airspaces, temporary restrictions, etc.) is more useful -- and it's public. What might be a national security issue is uploaded imagery. Drones could provide far better images than satellites. Is that the real security concern?
Reminds me of all the hub bub around Huawei networking. Also, the whole surveillance camera thing too. It's only been a few years, how is it that no one remembers these cases that are super similar!?
Well done Russ thanks for this summary - let’s keep our fingers crossed 🤞 Whilst I’m based in the UK, when the US sneezes, Britain soon also catches a cold, so hopefully things go in the right direction for all of us that enjoy this hobby! Good luck to all of you in the US - we’re counting on you!🖖
DJI is awesome. Leave them alone ya bullies. Security concerns 😟. Like I'm a lot more concerned with the US then with China concerning my security 🙄. Thanks for your honest & informative upload. Love from Australia ♥️
I hope it works, but wonder if politicians will still push their agenda. I still fly the OG Mavic Pro via an ancient One+1 phone, with no updates or internet connection. Just around my house for gutter/roof inspections. But going forward, I wonder if the same strategy is possible for newer stuff like an Avata 2 if there is a communications ban.
Thank you so much for this video! As a Filipino whose lands are being literally invaded by the Chinese government, I am far from a sympathizer of their government. But I am definitely anti-protectionism, especially one that is not reasonable or too well thought out, and I love my DJI drone(s), which, sadly I do not fly in the USA because of the complicated FAA laws and regulations. Due to scheduling global travel issues, I have not been able to take my FAA Part 107 license, which is the main reason why I do not fly my drone in the USA. I do earn a small income from my photography, although so far not with any drone images. It is so sad that the current administration and, now it seems, the GOP alternative, are both protectionist in their outlook: Biden is trying to protect Tesla from Chinese EV cars. All that protectionism does is harm competition, harms consumers (we deserve the best/better products), and hurts entrepreneurs like yourself. I truly hope the legislation will not pass the Senate (I read that it just passed by a small margin in the House) and that DJI will continue to see and do business in the USA. I am glad that DJI is making this move, which also protects our privacy, and hopefully allows their company to continue to sell products in the USA. Thankfully, a DJI ban is not even in the radar in the Philippines. Whew!
Dude I've been pretty depressed lately every time I look over at my drone gear. I sure hope this 4th quarter Hail Mary by DJI works. Still fantasizing that Tesla or Apple enters the drone market...
Will the changes that DJI implement have any impact on those us outside America? It's scary thinking how DJI plans to make changes to programs that would only impact Americans. How would this impact travellers travelling to America who would seriously like to keep data collected?
Unfortunately this bill isn’t about national security. Facts sadly aren’t important to some lawmakers. While this SHOULD help the cause, it may not matter at all.
I'm hanging on to my original DJI Mavic Pro. Imagine what it might be worth 50 years from now or maybe even less. It is kinda the first of its kind to become very popular with the majority of people. Now, with the government trying to ban them and all the controversy, they may be worth big bucks? ;)
Honestly, maybe you won't say it and I don't blame you but personally, I could care less. This was all inside trading to boost Skydio. Politicians on both sides of the fence stand to make billions.
I would officially answer NOPE and thats because national security was NEVER the issue/ reason for doing this. Thats true more than ever after Stefaniks comments about Anzu Robotics also being included in the ban.
Yeah, there's needs to be an international organization or individual nation organizations. Countries like to follow a lot of the stupid shit that goes down in the US, and it would be good to get on top of this before anything progresses further.
noticed that most consumer electronics nowadays requires activation prior to use, and during the process of activation it needs to access location, contacts, media files etc and needs an App to function..and those gadgets are mostly chinese products, be it drones, phones, applications etc...does the chinese spy network is now embeded on every corners of the world.
Consider: Full sized Import Trucks are STILL subject to the Chicken Tax over politicians and farmers getting steamed that Europe wanted to make their locally raised chicken prices competitive. Fair enough.. but still in effect, since 1964?
I've read that one of Stefanik's buddies is starting a US drone manufacturing company and wants to eliminate competition. Perhaps that is the real issue, not defense.
I wish more American companies delivered a product and service as great as DJI does.
American companies would outsource their drone production to China anyway.
Yaaay American business. !

How about allowing the option to sync with US cloud service? iCloud? Google Drive? Etc???
I'm currently paying on my DJI drone and would hate to pay for a paper weight. This is a hobby that I am new at and have been enjoying myself.
Well the answer was no, NDAA went through yesterday. This has been coming for 7 years.
Can you do an update after the house passed it?
I’m glad you’re able to get away with posting this without UA-cam censoring you for being too political. Thanks for speaking FACTS.
Thank you, Russ, and blessings to you and your family 🙏🏾
I'm glad DJI is disabling the upload of flight data. That always made me uncomfortable. I never understood what the point of that was. Maybe you can make a video explaining what that was all about? In any case, you are right, this should shut up the politicians trying to ban DJI, but only if WE educate them.
I am thinking that if you have a carefresh policy and crash or have a flyaway, then that is when dji needs your logs or they may not pay up.
Mee too, too bad it took this much to make them stop it.
It's also nice, because all your different drones can have a unified system for cloud based flight logs. That way you can check any of them without even having access to any of your drones. If one was stolen for example, and connected to internet, you could see the log and flight location.
Please do a full review of the ECOFLOW wave II.
It may be perfect for a Hurricane season backup A/C
I did. ua-cam.com/video/57JXgZt1ylM/v-deo.htmlsi=_ISQyctSHZaX_k7q
Eco flow looks amazing !!!
Drone Advocacy Alliance site will not load in my Fire Fox browser.
Is there site down due to an influx of activity?
How can I download my flight logs I have synced? I want to keep them.
If fly away coverage requires flight data then how are we supposed to replace a fly away with no flught records synced to dji
Weird that they are citing national security and privacy when there are us companies like emdeon selling access to social security numbers to bpo companies in the Philippines.
I hope this means they will also make the logs available so they are unencrypted now too then specifically the mavic3
If they ban DJI I will just not fly drones. No way in hell I’m buying skydio when they try to compete by cheating.
Wait how will this affect DJI Care Refresh? If they can’t access flight records, how will they know the drone flew away
Thanks for the information, Russ! I have been looking for a possible home back-up for emergencies. Do you recommend a particular Ecoflow that suits this?
Such a professional presentation and explanation. Thanks for this video. I had no idea of this law.
how does this data link impact fly-aways etc?
That's the million dollar question.
It would be interesting to know, if I as a German drone pilot with my DJI M4P drone, could fly in the USA on vacation with my European drone, that still will have the fly log sync option.🤔
I just took action! Thank you for this video, & for making the others! Yeah, it's a huge & serious issue!
Would this also remove the Geozone Flysafe since that is collecting flight location?
That would be great if it did.
Am in Jamaica and am happy for y'all this is good news for DJI
Lol, when I was being investigated I literally told the kid I've never been over 2k-ft away & if I did the data would be with the manufacture. I was loving RID b/c I didn't fly over any prisons.
There is a lot of $$$ lobbying by Skydio to MAGA Elise Stefanik
What about DJI Fly Safe...are they still going to monitor/control our flights?
Geozone locks will never go away.
All I want to do is enjoy my Birds Eye View.
0:34 “Our lawmakers here in America have been on a quest…”
I think it’d be more accurate to say “SOME of our lawmakers…” Of the fifteen cosponsors of Stefanik’s bill, only one, Raja Krishnamoorti of Illinois, is a Democrat.
Yes, because they want Trump’s admiration. I get it, but it’s misguided.
Thank you, Russ!
is the Channle title sti8ll true ? or do you have Go much DAS so your above 100 drones ?
DJI is making an odd move. Blocking users from uploading data smoke and mirrors. DJI could still upload data if you're connected to the Internet; a button is not required. That said, flight data from a drone is pretty useless. All of the important flight info (e.g., restricted airspaces, temporary restrictions, etc.) is more useful -- and it's public. What might be a national security issue is uploaded imagery. Drones could provide far better images than satellites. Is that the real security concern?
Thank you for the update information.
Love DJI It has a Apple feel to them in a good way. Everybody that has owned a Mac knows.
Reminds me of all the hub bub around Huawei networking. Also, the whole surveillance camera thing too. It's only been a few years, how is it that no one remembers these cases that are super similar!?
Thanks for the info! Will definitely pass it on!
Well done Russ thanks for this summary - let’s keep our fingers crossed 🤞 Whilst I’m based in the UK, when the US sneezes, Britain soon also catches a cold, so hopefully things go in the right direction for all of us that enjoy this hobby! Good luck to all of you in the US - we’re counting on you!🖖
I'm a recreational flyer but only use DJI because there's really no better affordable option
Keep your videos coming great information
Thank you for the up date on this issue.
DJI is awesome. Leave them alone ya bullies. Security concerns 😟. Like I'm a lot more concerned with the US then with China concerning my security 🙄. Thanks for your honest & informative upload. Love from Australia ♥️
The Freedom Is gone in USA... It's like a banana republic 😢
So if we assume DJI is doing something nefarious with our data... We should now take them at their word? I'm not sure how this fixes anything...
Whew!
Short answer. No, they didn't. The bill is getting passed.
Thank you Rus for this informative video. Shared with all my drone buddies here in Kentucky
Thats true more than ever after Stefaniks comments about Anzu Robotics also being included in the ban.
america is acting like china has no access to google maps
I am in the UK, i opened up the Drone Advocacy alliance web page and it appears it is US based only, ie US representatives, what can i do from the UK?
Yeah, there's needs to be an international organization or individual nation organizations. Countries like to follow a lot of the stupid shit that goes down in the US, and it would be good to get on top of this before anything progresses further.
Hopefully they did! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for saving us, Russell 🎉❤
😂 Always the class clown.🤡
It won't matter...it never was about that at all
noticed that most consumer electronics nowadays requires activation prior to use, and during the process of activation it needs to access location, contacts, media files etc and needs an App to function..and those gadgets are mostly chinese products, be it drones, phones, applications etc...does the chinese spy network is now embeded on every corners of the world.
Thanks for the quick reply...really enjoy the channel!
