    Hi mate!... My name is Ciro, and I'm from Uruguay... Sorry if I bother you too much, but I have a question... I read in The Gear Page, that you have (or had) a Vanamps Sole-Mate Jr. powered by a Cioks AC8... It happens that I have the same stuff... but no one of the cables that comes with the AC8 fit the input jack... they all seems to fit loose... do you remember the connector size or wich cable do you use??? It's driving me crazy... Thanks for your time... Regards... Ciro!

    • @bluesful
      @bluesful  3 роки тому

      Hi Ciro, I hope all is well in Uruguay.
      I use the Cioks Flex Cable type 5 with my Solemate. It's a 3.5mm, positive tip plug.
      cioks.com/products/flex-cable-type-5/
      My Solemate is an older model that has the 3.5mm plug connection, and I think that at some point later they changed that to the more common barrel plug. So I'm not sure what model Solemate you have.

      @@cirovarela235 that's really odd, as the Type 5 cable should definitely work. If you have the older style Solemate and you're running the Type 5 cable from an AC (not DC) outlet of the Cioks set to 12V it should definitely work. That seems to indicate to me that something in the chain there is defective.

    Are you using the Suhr RL with IR? Or is this the model without the IR and you load it in your computer? If so is the IR loaded in Logic/Garageband or a different program? Thanks.

    • @bluesful
      @bluesful  2 роки тому

      Hi mate, I'm using the standard version of the Suhr Reactive Load (so the one with no IR). For this clip I was using an IR loaded using an IR loader (Pulse) in GarageBand. These days I use MixIR as my loader in Logic.

    • @JimmyDevere
      @JimmyDevere 2 роки тому

      @@bluesful Ok thank you. As you can tell I haven't tried using IRs before and I'm looking at several devices. I know you use the Powerstation as well. What is your feeling on the Suhr RL in terms of do you think the quality of the tone is coming from that mainly or from the IR itself? In other words, if you were able to use the Powerstation instead of the Suhr plus the same IR do you think you would get the same result? I'm looking at getting the Two Notes M+ as I already have an attenuator/RL (the Weber Mass 200 which has a line out). I'm just trying to decide if the Suhr RL is a key part of the tone and if I need to get that as well. I don't know you have any thoughts on that? Thanks again!

    • @bluesful
      @bluesful  2 роки тому

      @@JimmyDevere the quality of the Reactive Load and the quality of the IR itself are 2 separate things in my opinion. If you had the world's best Reactive Load, but a really bad IR, then you're going to get a bad result. So you can't get around one, by the way of having something strong on the other if you get what I mean.
      If I was using the same IR and used the Power Station and then the Suhr you would get a different result. That's purely down to the fact that the reactive loads on those devices are different. I don't have comparison clips, but there are a few out there on UA-cam where you should be able to hear the differences in the loads between the Power Station and the Suhr. What one is better is just subjective to one's own ears.
      The Power Station also has the ability the manipulate the load via the 2 switches (I do have a clip demonstrating that), whereas the Suhr's load is set and you can't manipulate it.
      Fryette also make a Reactive Load product without the power amp (it's called the Power Load), so you could also consider that.
      The Suhr is a great unit though. It's not as big as the Power Station, and the non IR version that I have doesn't require power. So it's just plug my amp in and away I go.
      In terms of what you already have, there's most likely a case to be made that either of the Fryette products (the Power Station or Power Load) or the Suhr Reactive Load will give you a better tonal result than the Weber.
      Please note 2 things though about that statement: 1). I'm only making that based on what I've read, and clips I've heard as I have no hands-on experience with the Weber unit. 2) If you're happy with the tone you currently have then all is good. There's no need to go and spend $$ on something else.
      Hope that helps a little.

    • @JimmyDevere
      @JimmyDevere 2 роки тому

      That’s super helpful information. thanks! So one last question. Is there any difference between the two Suhr version using the IR on the computer vs built in? Can you use the third party IRs with the SRL/IR?

    • @bluesful
      @bluesful  2 роки тому

      @@JimmyDevere no worries, always happy to help out other tone hounds like.
      I believe you can load 3rd party IRs on the Suhr IR.
      The difference for me is the ability in a DAW (Logic in my case) to add specific room IRs in parallel to the guitar track, whereas on the Suhr IR you have to use a cab IR either on it's own, or a cab IR that has a cab room IR mixed in with the close mic IR.
      I prefer the tone and control of being able to add room IRs (so specific rooms, not IRs of a specific cab in a room) in parallel to the guitar track. You can't do that with the Suhr IR.
      From what I can tell though, most people are happy with the Suhr IR and loading in their favourite cab IRs.
      For what it's worth, this specific video didn't use a room IR in parallel as it was recorded in GarageBand, not Logic. I used a duplicate track with Plate Reverb set to 100% wet to get that Fresh Cream tone.

  • @vintagecharlie5969
    @vintagecharlie5969 3 роки тому +1

    Great tone and feel. Is this without any pedals in front of amp? My 45/100 sounds way more wooly and fuzzy when approaching that amount of gain, even with bass on 0 (also when running into a Suhr Reactive load). Did you have the guitar volume on 10 or backed up a bit?

    • @bluesful
      @bluesful  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the kind words mate. There's no pedals here, it's just my Les Paul straight into the amp. If I can remember it correctly, I had the guitar volume on about 9. The key thing that I think is working here in cutting some of the wooly nature is the pickups in my Les Paul. They are OX4s, which are a low wind (so lower output) and are un-potted. The other thing is that I'm running a plate reverb plugin in my DAW to try and replicate the reverb sounds that Clapton got on the Fresh Cream record, and that reverb may be covering a bit of the wooly stuff. Here's a clip of the amp on similar settings that was taken with my iPhone in the room for a reference point - ua-cam.com/video/KVeJGNnmBNY/v-deo.html
