Why is there a White Cross on a Hollywood Hilltop?

- Why is there a huge glowing cross on a hill in Hollywood? Tom wondered the same thing. Turns out it's connected to early Hollywood and two outdoor theatres-one you've heard of and one you probably haven't.

Great to have you back Tom! Excited for these videos.
Good job Tom. I fell down those lonnnnnnnnggggg side stairs with my friend after to many beers one night. Can't wait to see a show there again.
So glad you're back my friend. ♥️♥️
Excellent Tom. I too have driven by that cross since I was a very young boy and wondered the story behind it.
THANK YOU TOM!! I was missing you. glad to see you are back Sir. :)
I just checked this out last night. Great stuff, love the channel!
Ive been seeing that cross since I was a kid. Thanks for this video.
Awesome. I always wondered what that cross was.
Excellent video.
Tom. Come back dude. We need you
Great choice of subject! Dig it..
It's been a while.. so glad for another episode!
all my life I've seen that cross and wondered why it's there. thanks.
We miss your videos !
Tom's back!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!
So good every time. Keep it coming though
good job guys
Much respect & thanks to Tom, Zach, Jordan, Alex & Co. for all the hours & effort all you guys put into making such quality, informative & entertaining content. Top notch guys! I look forward to all your videos & watch each multiple times. Keep it up guys & thank you!! You guys deserve a Key to the City!
Loved it !
Love it!
Another great episode. Good to have you back.
New episodes.. YESSS!!
Nice vids man👍
Hey Tom, as a suggestion, you should check out Turnbull canyon. Workman museum or the SGV. The greater Los Angeles area doesn't have a lot of info. After it was a orchard and parts like chino were just barren land
Right by that cross is where we first found out about P-22 through a trail camera study looking at mammal animal crossing the bridge right there.
Tom & crew i can't thank you guys enough for your hardwork and dedication. Each time I visit LA for work I follow your footsteps and explore this gem of a city.
LA has now has its next Hell Howser ! It's amaaaaaazing
Thanks Tom for filling the void
You guys should do The Hollywood Bowl next!
finally another episode!! miss you tom!
Wow, I am an L.A. native and I was totally off with the White Cross. I thought it was part of Forest Lawn because of my "immaculate sense of direction" and a thoughtless guess from my parents.
Loved the video but I was left with one quick question, maybe it's silly, but seeing as they sold off the enigmatic cross who has maintained it since 1964?
Welcome back, Tom! Interesting video!
Good stuff Tom!
reconstruction must have cost a fortune ! but definitely worth it
Yes!! I've been waiting for new episodes!!
Dude, your videos are so rad! I really enjoy how you narrate and present the whole thing. I also appreciate the level of production from all the guys who help to make these episodes. There's so much white noise on this platform, and your channel is seriously one of my favourite things to watch on UA-cam.
Peace!
Thanks! Quick question: why is there a cross to the left sign of the Hollywood Sign as well?
i first saw that cross in 1998
You should do highland bowl and Frank's camera in highland park. Also if you need an extra camera man
Great video, Tom!! I've always wondered what that cross was doing there.
Great episode. That cross has always intrigued me, but I never bothered to research it.
Just wanted to say that I found your channel at the perfect time. I'm British but fell in love with Los Angeles a few years back and have been visiting as often as I can ever since. I'm currently trying to decide what to do here on my Sunday afternoon and your videos are providing me with some great inspiration! I have some (much more amateur!) videos on my channel from LA and further afield if you'd like to check out the city from an outsider's perspective! :-)
I live in Orange County and every time I went to the Valley, I drove through that area during the day, I didn't even know there was a cross up there. Awesome writing!
This guy is richhh getting his way into cool places
Hollywood was founded as an attempt to copy my family’s Colegrove development that predated it and was much more popular (and fun). It is now East Hollywood.
Hey Tom, I just wanted to say that I love the videos. You have inspired me to do the same in my city. I hope you continue to make them as they have helped me fall in love with your city even more and I sit in another country. I would love to see you talk about the different movie houses around LA. Such beautiful architecture. Be well and hope to see you soon.
Garish Light shinning down? Really? That cross is a blessing and when is goes LA will go!
FINALLY
can people go visit it at night? if so where is the best place to park.
Explore eagle mountain !!
Dude you got me hooked on this. It's not a ghost town. It's a ghost city. Yes, Tom please put eagle mountain "ghost city" on your to do list.
Shit yeah
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Symbol of torture
What the,? The cross was sold off, to whom? Why? You've raised a Q with no A...
may I suggest looking into the history behing highland park, "historic highland park"
3 videos in one year...just announce you are done!
