I grew up about 5 minutes away from the Herr’s factory. They used to give free chips to restaurants in the area, they also gave out new chips to get feedback before actually selling them on store shelves. They used to do a lot of neat local stuff

That's happened too many times to me as well. I'm finding that there just isn't enough variety in the chip aisle at my local store, so I head down to the ocean and take the ferry to Chip Isle. Except that magical island of chips is so saturated with possibilities that I end up lost.
I’ve never heard anyone else talk about Puffcorn!!! Chester’s Cheese puffs are my favorite version of it because it reminded me of the old Cheetos Curly Puffs :) If you like the Butter flavor I highly recommend the Cheese flavor as well !
My mother has been making "Christmas crack" on the holidays ever since I was a kid. It's Chester's butter puffs with a caramel and brown sugar sauce over it, and baked. It's very addicting
As a Pennsylvania native Herr's brand chips are all the rage here! SO MANY FLAVORS!! I highly recommend most if not all of what Herr's has to offer. And again another amazing video Ian thank you for all the work you put into these and would love a Cereal version of this series if you happen to see this comment
I remember trying their ketchup flavor chips just for the fun of it. I like ketchup but not enough to just eat the straight up flavor but I have to say those chips were amazing!! I couldn’t stop eating them.
Herrs brand is so underrated. Everything I've ever had of theirs tastes like the flavor they are advertised as. My favorites are the cheese puffs, either the deep dish pizza or the jalapeno bites are amazing. We have both in the vending machine where I work and they sell out every month.
Sometimes that works to their detriment. I thought the Horseradish and Cheddar would be reminiscent of the flavor, but it was just straight raw horseradish... Almost like snorting Windex.
You all should try there Ranch Habanero One It's Awesome starts out nice but way after that it's Dontes Inferno trust me you'll love them bought some at Meijer's in Battle Creek because I live not far from BC Michigan

Thanks Ian for bringing awareness to the Great Potato Radiation Scare. I come from a farming family and we suffered through the Fruitsplosion Scare of '97. Farmers' heads started turning into fruits and getting all deliciously juicy in an early 90 CGI way. But the truth got buried hard and Big Snack Industry led people to believe it was just a commercial gimmick. To this day, I still can't eat a Fruit Gusher without pouring out a 40oz Capri Sun for all the lost souls.
Herr's Ketchup Potato chips were my white whale. i have a distinct memory of buying a striking bag of ketchup flavored potato chips at walmart as a child, and they were the best chips i ever had. but my fickle child mind had forgotten about them, and i have bought many ketchup potato chips in passing, never finding that elusive taste. but after watching this video, googling Herr's, and seeing that bag once more. i knew i found what i have been craving all these years. thank you ian.
It’s incredibly unfortunate but one of my favorites is “Sweetos,” another weird off-Cheeto idea from the Cheetos brand that was cinnamon sugar flavored. What makes it unfortunate is that they seem to be gone. Last time I saw them was on a road trip in a cruddy little gas station. They were probably quite old but I bought every bag I could afford. Rest In Peace Sweetos.
The Lays layers chips look like they're trying to imitate Turtle chips, a Korean chip that is hands down my favorite chip. Comes in flavors like cheese, churro, seaweed, and kinako. All delicious!
Ah, yes, I've had the standard flavor before and they were super good! A nice, sweet flavor. Another good Korean chip are these honey butter flavor I had once... They feel decadent

I'm from Mexico. Here Lay's is called Sabritas, recognized from the smiling logo. When I was a kid, I loved the queso Ruffles, but in fact I can recall how overwhelming is the stink. I wonder how similar the one you got are from the ones we got here.
As a fellow Mexican I've never realized how stinky the Ruffles were untill you and Ian pointed out. Still one of the best, if not the best, variety of Ruffles here in the country.
The queso ruffles from here taste very similar to the ones in Mexico but I’d give the ones from Mexico the edge cause the queso flavor tastes better in my opinion, but adding some tapatio makes both of them taste great
I actually grew up on the puffcorn. I describe their flavor as salted cardboard. I honestly love them despite calling them cardboard, I don't buy them anymore because otherwise I'd eat the whole bag right away

A convenience store I went to as a kid in Ohio used to get Herr's ketchup chips every once and a while. They were pretty good, it's a bummer I can't find them in Florida.
I've done the Herr's factory tour a couple of times, and they do have a lot of interesting flavors! As a Marylander, I'm obligated to encourage you to try the Old Bay flavor lol My personal favorite are the Honey Cheese Curls and Jalapino Poppers Cheese Curls! Aside from Herr's, I LOVE Zipp's Voodoo Chips!! They're my all time favorite chips, but I feel like not a lot of people know of them.
I’ve eaten those butter puff corn chips for most of my life and I think they’re amazing! And my sister made this really good treat using them and she now makes it every Christmas as a party snack!

At my local gas station, I was briefly introduced to Herr's Stubb's Sticky Sweet Curls, and became absolutely addicted. Then I stopped being able to find them, and I was ruined. I'm still not recovered.
I agreed with everything but the queso chips, I feel like they contrast to the sour cream cheddar ones because they have sorta a spicy kick (granted, they do have a bit of something reminiscent to a stinky blue cheese taste which while I like I recognize isn't for everyone)
As a fan of the sour cream and cheddar ruffles, the queso ones honestly just felt like the same but with extra flavor powder lol. Which is why I prefer them. Which kind of matches up with my experiences buying chips imported from Mexico. They tend to be pretty generous with the seasonings, so I prefer them.
Herr's are so underrated man. If you do another Essential Chips guide I'd definitely recommend seeing if you can grab other Herr flavors, or even if you don't do another video.
I get Herr's chips from the gas station on the way home from time to time. Herr's has some of my favorite chip flavors I've had. The horseradish chips are superb. Sour cream and habanero is great. The grilled cheese and tomato soup cheese puffs are so evocative of those flavors that they're my favorite cheese puffs ever. great brand of chips. Never seen the cotton candy flavor before I think my reaction would be the same.
Also can I just say how much I appreciate the amount of effort you put into your videos. A lot of other UA-camrs feel like they're lazy and a lot of the "relatable" UA-camrs are to lazy to even prepare for the video. For example they'll go "today we're making _ _ _." (Fill in the blank honestly) but then they'll go "The recipe said to use this but all I have in my pantry is this. So hopefully that works." and it's just like, why am I wasting my time? But I appreciate the amount of editing in your videos, and how you never have any dead air in your videos with awkward silence. Your videos feel more fulfilling, they quench my appetite lol. Thank you.
Oddly enough, the queso chips are one of my favorites of all time, even surpassing the sour cream and cheddar variety. I will admit though, they do be stinky.

Herr’s makes some interesting flavors. I first discovered them a while back at a Kmart. They had an eight foot section of nothing but Herr’s. They must have had every flavor at the time and they were cheap. My favorites were the ketchup chips and the horseradish cheddar.
Herrs is a big brand here, Ive been to a factory a couple times and their flavors are amazing. The dippin dots cookies and cream puffs/balls are amazing from my memory, the pizza puffs are aamzing as well and lastly the OLD BAY PUFFS!!! One of the only things that Im happy about living here is the easy availability of old bay herrs puffs. Its heavenly. Also the best cheese snack is whisps cheese crisps, amazing cheese flavor but havent tried anything but the original. The best sweet chip ive ever had are these "turtle chips" that ive called in the churro flavor. I have never had a chip more aggressivly addictive as those. I highly suggest them unless if you dont want to get addicted.
If we ever get a part three down the line I really hope you get to try out VOODOO chips if they're available in your area. I've never tasted a chip with such a unique flavor than those. Definitely my favorite!
@@yeah2956 they're my favorite kind of chip! I guess that taste is subjective but I recommend at least giving them a try. They have a strong flavor but it's unlike any other chip I've tried. Definitely worth a taste at least.
Just don’t go into it expecting it to be a spicy chip. For whatever reason I was absolutely convinced they were going to be spicy based on the font choice & imagery, and they’re not spicy at all, which led to instant disappointment on my end
I've never seen the Butter Puffcorn before, only the cheese one! The cheese one, btw, is also extremely good 😁 Its one of my favorite 'hang out over at a friend's house and play video games all night' snacks, and we always buy 2 bags because it's so easy to polish one off before you even realize it!
Where I live, we don't typically get Herr's snacks, but occasionally one of the local grocers will get a load of them as a special. They recently got an assortment of interesting flavored Herr's cheese curls, including pimento cheese, jalapeno popper, cheese pizza and grilled cheese with tomato soup flavors. We bought one of each, and it turned into kind of a problem, as my wife got obsessed with the pimento cheese flavor, and the rest of us blew through the others as fast as we could buy them. We finally had to declare a Herr's cheese curl moratorium, lest we get out of control. Fortunately, they didn't last long at the store, so everything's OK, now.
Time to add another video to the sleeping playlist (yes I listen to brutal foods to fall asleep, thank you Ian). It’s not because I find the videos boring, they’re just so calming and have helped lower my anxiety so often.

Recommendation! Zapp's New Orleans Voodoo flavored chips. They're a kettle cooked chip that's an incredible blend of BBQ and Salt and Vinegar. Idky more brands don't do a flavor like this, it's brilliant.
Super lovely video. I'd like to see you review more Herrs brand chips. Don't think I've ever seen those in my country so it's fun to see the different flavors. One thing I will say is that the logo on the Queso chips is from Sabritas which is a LatAm subsidiary of Frito Lay. Perhaps it's a cultural divide thing but I LOVEEE those. They are stinky though I will not lie haha, but to me that familiar cheesy, lightly spicy flavor feels like home to me.
We had those Herr's baby back rib chips in one of the vending machines of the visiting room of the prison I was in. They were good. Side note, you should do a BBQ sauce video, trying out a bunch of different brands and flavors. You are literally the only human being on planet earth that is interesting enough to watch a video like that of.
"Be cautious of cheese chips" is a rule I have been following forever. They can be very good (Cheeto, Dorito, Bugels, etc.) but some taste like a wet fart
butter puffcorn is one of my favorite snacks, but its hard to find around here. It hops between stores like a traveling corn puff and artificial butter circus. you gotta buy a bag when you see it cuz you dont know when the next time will come.
Yes! It's not just me lol. My wife loves them to and will stock up if she finds them. I found a knock off brand and was hopeful but it was just blah. Didn't have the distinct butter taste of Cheetos brand.

I quite enjoy the mouth feel of the Layers chips, I tend to avoid any cheese flavored chips because they all taste the same and usually have triple the amount of salt of other flavors. That being said the Sour cream and Onion Layers are worth a try

I would have to disagree on the Ruffle Queso chips. The smell doesn't bother me and the strong cheese flavor with a hint of spiciness makes it one of my favorites. Maybe I haven't tried better cheese chips, but I always grab a queso chip bag when I see one.
I think I know the taste and smell despite not having tasted it or smelled it. If it is that smell that I am thinking lf, then I completely understand why someone wouldn't like it but I enjoy it myself. It's just overwhelming.
Hell yeah man, I pretty much always grab a small bag of Queso during one of my stops throughout my work day, or else at least get the larger size bag when I do a grocery run. Lol no joke I have the Ruffles Queso and Lays Layers in my house right now. I like them both. The Queso ones are one of my favorites because they taste like the Cheddar and Sour Cream but with a little bit of spiciness. They're great! A-. Solid B on the Layers.

I've been a big fan of Herr's for several years now! Oddly enough, I seem to always have them turn up in discount and outlet stores: Ollie's, Aldi and various dollar stores. At least a dozen different snacks and I'm always at least impressed, and at best, absolutely addicted to the crazy snacks they put out.

Those Herr's Baby Back Ribs are honestly my favourite chip other than Walkers prawn cocktail. I normally can't finish an entire bag of chips in one sitting but I can polish off a bag of those no problem. I've only ever found the smaller individual sized ones for that one to be fair but it looks like Ian's got a larger bag so maybe they finally decided to make em' bigger! Either way excellent choice there dude!
POPCORN ADDICT REVIEW: Okay so I watched the video and loved it. I was super intrigued by the puffcorn cause I am an ADDICT for those huge bags of brachs popcorn. I got myself a bag of this puffcorn stuff. It tastes EXACTLY like my favorite butter popcorn. The texture is my biggest turn off for it but I'm just not used to corn puffs. A+ recommendation Ian! Did you know that puffs were the by product of animal feed, a grinder was used to flake corn. In order to clean the machinery, staff fed moist corn into the grinder. This process produced airy blobs of corn
the herr's buffalo blue cheese curls are one of my favorites. they're stinky but that goes with the territory at least. it's dominated by the buffalo sauce smell.
I love Chester's Puffcorn Butter. The flavor and texture are great. Im autistic and have a sensory aversion to the kernels and hulls of popcorn so I'm glad this exists.
I work in a fancy, fine dining kitchen, and those cotton candy balls just showed up there one day. I haven't tried them yet (and probably won't now that they've been sitting for a while lol), but it makes me laugh a little seeing them tucked away in dry storage with the fancy dessert ingredients
Your verdict on Ruffles Queso is disappointing as they are pretty good and popular here in Latin America for a reason (even more than the regular Ruffles) But overall great video! Cant wait for the next episode!

I'm furious. The Ruffles Queso chip is a perfect chip to me. I only discovered it maybe a year or two ago. It's such a flavor explosion.

Thanks Ian for bringing awareness to the Great Potato Radiation Scare. I come from a farming family and we suffered through the Fruitsplosion Scare of '97. Farmers' heads started turning into fruits and getting all deliciously juicy in an early 90 CGI way. But the truth got buried hard and Big Snack Industry led people to believe it was just a commercial gimmick. To this day, I still can't eat a Fruit Gusher without pouring out a 40oz Capri Sun for all the lost souls.
Herr's Ketchup Potato chips were my white whale. i have a distinct memory of buying a striking bag of ketchup flavored potato chips at walmart as a child, and they were the best chips i ever had.
but my fickle child mind had forgotten about them, and i have bought many ketchup potato chips in passing, never finding that elusive taste.
but after watching this video, googling Herr's, and seeing that bag once more. i knew i found what i have been craving all these years.

Puffcorn is kind of like eating packing peanuts except they taste amazing and dissolve in your mouth
some packing peanuts are made in a similar way to puffcorn, and also dissolve in your mouth. They do not taste amazing though.

It’s incredibly unfortunate but one of my favorites is “Sweetos,” another weird off-Cheeto idea from the Cheetos brand that was cinnamon sugar flavored. What makes it unfortunate is that they seem to be gone. Last time I saw them was on a road trip in a cruddy little gas station. They were probably quite old but I bought every bag I could afford. Rest In Peace Sweetos.

The Lays layers chips look like they're trying to imitate Turtle chips, a Korean chip that is hands down my favorite chip. Comes in flavors like cheese, churro, seaweed, and kinako. All delicious!
Trust me, the Layers are horrible. Stick to the Korean one you like. You aren't missing out on anything ... well, anything good.
Ah, yes, I've had the standard flavor before and they were super good! A nice, sweet flavor. Another good Korean chip are these honey butter flavor I had once... They feel decadent

Herrs was like THE brand for me as a kid. I'm surprised you're just now getting into it. I couldn't go anywhere without seeing it. I really love their cheese curls, normal is my favorite.
I'm from Mexico. Here Lay's is called Sabritas, recognized from the smiling logo. When I was a kid, I loved the queso Ruffles, but in fact I can recall how overwhelming is the stink. I wonder how similar the one you got are from the ones we got here.
As a fellow Mexican I've never realized how stinky the Ruffles were untill you and Ian pointed out. Still one of the best, if not the best, variety of Ruffles here in the country.

The queso ruffles from here taste very similar to the ones in Mexico but I’d give the ones from Mexico the edge cause the queso flavor tastes better in my opinion, but adding some tapatio makes both of them taste great

The Queso Ruffles here are the same as in Mexico. The packaging is all in Spanish and they're marketed toward Latino Americans.
I actually grew up on the puffcorn. I describe their flavor as salted cardboard. I honestly love them despite calling them cardboard, I don't buy them anymore because otherwise I'd eat the whole bag right away

A convenience store I went to as a kid in Ohio used to get Herr's ketchup chips every once and a while. They were pretty good, it's a bummer I can't find them in Florida.

I've done the Herr's factory tour a couple of times, and they do have a lot of interesting flavors! As a Marylander, I'm obligated to encourage you to try the Old Bay flavor lol My personal favorite are the Honey Cheese Curls and Jalapino Poppers Cheese Curls!

At my local gas station, I was briefly introduced to Herr's Stubb's Sticky Sweet Curls, and became absolutely addicted. Then I stopped being able to find them, and I was ruined. I'm still not recovered.
I agreed with everything but the queso chips, I feel like they contrast to the sour cream cheddar ones because they have sorta a spicy kick (granted, they do have a bit of something reminiscent to a stinky blue cheese taste which while I like I recognize isn't for everyone)

Which kind of matches up with my experiences buying chips imported from Mexico. They tend to be pretty generous with the seasonings, so I prefer them.

Herr's are so underrated man. If you do another Essential Chips guide I'd definitely recommend seeing if you can grab other Herr flavors, or even if you don't do another video.

I get Herr's chips from the gas station on the way home from time to time. Herr's has some of my favorite chip flavors I've had. The horseradish chips are superb. Sour cream and habanero is great. The grilled cheese and tomato soup cheese puffs are so evocative of those flavors that they're my favorite cheese puffs ever. great brand of chips. Never seen the cotton candy flavor before I think my reaction would be the same.
Also can I just say how much I appreciate the amount of effort you put into your videos. A lot of other UA-camrs feel like they're lazy and a lot of the "relatable" UA-camrs are to lazy to even prepare for the video. For example they'll go "today we're making _ _ _." (Fill in the blank honestly) but then they'll go "The recipe said to use this but all I have in my pantry is this. So hopefully that works." and it's just like, why am I wasting my time? But I appreciate the amount of editing in your videos, and how you never have any dead air in your videos with awkward silence. Your videos feel more fulfilling, they quench my appetite lol. Thank you.
Oddly enough, the queso chips are one of my favorites of all time, even surpassing the sour cream and cheddar variety. I will admit though, they do be stinky.

Herr’s makes some interesting flavors. I first discovered them a while back at a Kmart. They had an eight foot section of nothing but Herr’s. They must have had every flavor at the time and they were cheap. My favorites were the ketchup chips and the horseradish cheddar.

Herrs is a big brand here, Ive been to a factory a couple times and their flavors are amazing. The dippin dots cookies and cream puffs/balls are amazing from my memory, the pizza puffs are aamzing as well and lastly the OLD BAY PUFFS!!! One of the only things that Im happy about living here is the easy availability of old bay herrs puffs. Its heavenly. Also the best cheese snack is whisps cheese crisps, amazing cheese flavor but havent tried anything but the original. The best sweet chip ive ever had are these "turtle chips" that ive called in the churro flavor. I have never had a chip more aggressivly addictive as those. I highly suggest them unless if you dont want to get addicted.

If we ever get a part three down the line I really hope you get to try out VOODOO chips if they're available in your area. I've never tasted a chip with such a unique flavor than those. Definitely my favorite!
Zapp's has some fun flavors in their lineup. The Voodoo chips have a very "All Dressed" flavor feel to me -- which is definitely not a bad thing.

Just don’t go into it expecting it to be a spicy chip. For whatever reason I was absolutely convinced they were going to be spicy based on the font choice & imagery, and they’re not spicy at all, which led to instant disappointment on my end

I've never seen the Butter Puffcorn before, only the cheese one! The cheese one, btw, is also extremely good 😁 Its one of my favorite 'hang out over at a friend's house and play video games all night' snacks, and we always buy 2 bags because it's so easy to polish one off before you even realize it!

Where I live, we don't typically get Herr's snacks, but occasionally one of the local grocers will get a load of them as a special. They recently got an assortment of interesting flavored Herr's cheese curls, including pimento cheese, jalapeno popper, cheese pizza and grilled cheese with tomato soup flavors. We bought one of each, and it turned into kind of a problem, as my wife got obsessed with the pimento cheese flavor, and the rest of us blew through the others as fast as we could buy them. We finally had to declare a Herr's cheese curl moratorium, lest we get out of control. Fortunately, they didn't last long at the store, so everything's OK, now.
Time to add another video to the sleeping playlist (yes I listen to brutal foods to fall asleep, thank you Ian). It’s not because I find the videos boring, they’re just so calming and have helped lower my anxiety so often.

Recommendation! Zapp's New Orleans Voodoo flavored chips. They're a kettle cooked chip that's an incredible blend of BBQ and Salt and Vinegar. Idky more brands don't do a flavor like this, it's brilliant.
They have the best designed bags too! Very festive!
Super lovely video. I'd like to see you review more Herrs brand chips. Don't think I've ever seen those in my country so it's fun to see the different flavors. One thing I will say is that the logo on the Queso chips is from Sabritas which is a LatAm subsidiary of Frito Lay. Perhaps it's a cultural divide thing but I LOVEEE those. They are stinky though I will not lie haha, but to me that familiar cheesy, lightly spicy flavor feels like home to me.
We had those Herr's baby back rib chips in one of the vending machines of the visiting room of the prison I was in. They were good. Side note, you should do a BBQ sauce video, trying out a bunch of different brands and flavors. You are literally the only human being on planet earth that is interesting enough to watch a video like that of.

"Be cautious of cheese chips" is a rule I have been following forever. They can be very good (Cheeto, Dorito, Bugels, etc.) but some taste like a wet fart
butter puffcorn is one of my favorite snacks, but its hard to find around here. It hops between stores like a traveling corn puff and artificial butter circus. you gotta buy a bag when you see it cuz you dont know when the next time will come.

Yes! It's not just me lol. My wife loves them to and will stock up if she finds them. I found a knock off brand and was hopeful but it was just blah. Didn't have the distinct butter taste of Cheetos brand.

I quite enjoy the mouth feel of the Layers chips, I tend to avoid any cheese flavored chips because they all taste the same and usually have triple the amount of salt of other flavors. That being said the Sour cream and Onion Layers are worth a try

I would have to disagree on the Ruffle Queso chips. The smell doesn't bother me and the strong cheese flavor with a hint of spiciness makes it one of my favorites. Maybe I haven't tried better cheese chips, but I always grab a queso chip bag when I see one.

I think I know the taste and smell despite not having tasted it or smelled it. If it is that smell that I am thinking lf, then I completely understand why someone wouldn't like it but I enjoy it myself. It's just overwhelming.

I've been a big fan of Herr's for several years now! Oddly enough, I seem to always have them turn up in discount and outlet stores: Ollie's, Aldi and various dollar stores. At least a dozen different snacks and I'm always at least impressed, and at best, absolutely addicted to the crazy snacks they put out.

Those Herr's Baby Back Ribs are honestly my favourite chip other than Walkers prawn cocktail. I normally can't finish an entire bag of chips in one sitting but I can polish off a bag of those no problem. I've only ever found the smaller individual sized ones for that one to be fair but it looks like Ian's got a larger bag so maybe they finally decided to make em' bigger! Either way excellent choice there dude!

Okay so I watched the video and loved it. I was super intrigued by the puffcorn cause I am an ADDICT for those huge bags of brachs popcorn. I got myself a bag of this puffcorn stuff. It tastes EXACTLY like my favorite butter popcorn. The texture is my biggest turn off for it but I'm just not used to corn puffs. A+ recommendation Ian! I have a new favorite snack food thanks to you!

Did you know that puffs were the by product of animal feed, a grinder was used to flake corn. In order to clean the machinery, staff fed moist corn into the grinder. This process produced airy blobs of corn
the herr's buffalo blue cheese curls are one of my favorites. they're stinky but that goes with the territory at least. it's dominated by the buffalo sauce smell.
I love Chester's Puffcorn Butter. The flavor and texture are great. Im autistic and have a sensory aversion to the kernels and hulls of popcorn so I'm glad this exists.
I work in a fancy, fine dining kitchen, and those cotton candy balls just showed up there one day. I haven't tried them yet (and probably won't now that they've been sitting for a while lol), but it makes me laugh a little seeing them tucked away in dry storage with the fancy dessert ingredients
