I put about 40 miles on one last week. From 80 to parking lot crawls, it felt completely natural. If they don't change it too much, it will develop character (and accessories/aftermarket interest) very quickly. Whatever us present HD riders decide, the competition is good for all of motorcycling.
I love my Harley but am very glad to see Indian back. Didn't like the look of the Chieftain at first but it is really growing on me. Just happy to see more American bikes on the market.
I ride the -97 dragstar and have 27,000 miles on it :) It is still in its brake in period ;) It actually goes faster today than when I bought it by 10-20km/h :)
I'm a big guy too. It felt a bit cramped until I got moving. It quickly became very comfy; I also had a better feeling of control compared to the EG. I'm keeping my Fat Bob for Poker Runs, but I now want a Chieftain for Route 66.
My gf just purchased one. its a good bike for beginners or riders who want a light engine bike; however, Indian motorcycles are different class. It's big with powerful engine designed to go the distance. you can compare the new Indian to a touring bikes or big engine cruisers
I would like to thank The Indian Motorcycle Co.for taking our suggestion seriously about removing the tear light that came from the past failures of California Motor Works Gilroy Indian Divison. Now with it wiped from the slate Indian will move and never look back. Indian you are back and the future awaits long success. We expect no less than the best. Indian Americas First And Finest Motorcycel company. Indian Mike of Wakefield Ma.
You may want the Corbin seat if over 5'9", other than that, I loved everything about it, although a tad blingy. I cant wait for their Scout model to come out.
i agreed. its frustrating when working on a bike and there are no parts available or ready to be bought. Harley has it all with parts and after market stuff.
Not the first time, but, yes it looks good with the bags off. The Yamaha V Star and Stratoliner are the same way without the ease of removal along with most bikes that added bags after the sale. Heck the Yammers can have their fairings taken off and you'd never know it was a "Deluxe" model.
After reading a bunch of the comments, I saw very few describing what you're suggesting. Most seem to welcome it and appreciate it. I do however see a large amount of Harley bashing. I have a Breakout and I see nothing wrong with Indian, Victory, or competition in general. In fact on one of the Harley forums I frequent the attitude is generally the same. Most like it and welcome the competition. Maybe you're just reaching a bit.
C'mon JD. There are millions of us H-D Guys. you can't make a blanket statement like that. Based on a handful of posts. I'm rooting for Victory, Indian and Harley. I love all American products. Ride Safe My Brother's.
As much as I don't want to like this bike, I have to admit it looks like an awesome ride. I won't sell my ElectraGlide for one, but yeah, I like this bike too.
I ride a Harley and I have owned import bikes prior to it. I love the fact that Polaris has taken over the Indian brand as competition is always good for the consumer. The problem Polaris has right now is locations. My nearest Indian dealer where I could get service is 150 miles away. The next closest one is New Jersey ( Indian dealer website) and I live in North Carolina. Until they can create a larger foothold in the market I believe Harley by sheer volume of dealerships will be more appealing
God this bike is beautiful. I'll take mine in Thunder black with a sissy bar for my passenger, and one of those tip over bars that goes behind the front wheel:) Kudos on the ABS.
I ride a zx10r and other various sport bikes. Never owned a cruiser, or really cared to own one. I'm impressed with the new indian line polaris is producing though. Kinda like the new 'classic' chief.
I guess only time will tell whether or not Polaris will be successful in raising and sustaining the Indian Motorcycle brand to the heights of it's former hey day. As a motorcyle rider/lover of all motorcycles the one thing I look for is support in the form of parts/service availability. I do all the work on my Harley and love that there is a bevy of aftermarket suppliers out there too for me to choose from. I Hope Polaris will have the same fortune with the Indian
Once the bike establishes itself - which shouldn't take too long, you'll see dealers pop up all over the place. they may not be a numerous as Harley dealers (yet), but they should be about on a par with Victory or Triumph at the very least. It may not be a bad idea to consult with a local Victory dealer to see whether or not they're able and willing to pick up a franchise.
Very nice for a first attempt, Polaris. IMO, the bags should slope forward slightly on the leading edge. A little too flat. Other than that, not too bad.
the new Indian Chieftain is Beautiful and I would proudly ride one!!! At night id park it next my 2005 Harley Electraglide Standard .. Cowboys and Indians baby American Motorcycles.
I really love the vintage yes the leathers look great and the style the character and all the xtras which are standard and you can see a lot of work in a such a short period of time has gone into these machines and I like the war bonnet on front guard cant wait till I get one
Sadly I think at some point Indian/Victory will receive that stigma as well. Sonny Barger (Hells Angel founder) rides a Victory Vision according to his Autobiography. I think most bikers in general unless you ride a crotch rocket are given the "stink eye" by the general public because most of your bike gangs ride Harleys and any type of bike similiar to that falls into that stigma.
@TheIndianMotorcycle Please bring this to INDIA, there is a good market for motorcycles in India (Harley is expanding here) Polaris has brought the Victory Motorcycles here but why not the Indian? People do need Choice in India :)
Harley Street Glide is a little over 2 grand less (19,799). Now before you jump down my throat, a Street Glide with cruise, ABS, security package etc is waaay more expensive. I would buy this over a Street Glide and Im a huge Harley fan
Trading in my StreetGlide as soon as I can. I ride a harley cuz I'm different, but there are too many Street glides and road glides, that I feel cloned. I mean real leather, and everything is already chromed saves me $5000 from the start.
If I were young enough and healthy enough, I'd trade my Harley for an Indian in a heart beat. Given the comments of support, they should out do Harley (dealers getting too prissy for my taste anymore) and regain the lead in cruiser bikes.
However it is to small for me. Im ~2m tall and 100+kg so the electra glide is the harley for me if id get one. And I too are curious about them. But I think I'll go with the kawasaki classic tourer for my next bike. I'll keep my dragstar tho, I'll just rebuild it. Ive bougt some parts from the junktion since I dont wanna repaint the beatiful orange purle of my xvs :P
I don't think HD has anything to worry about. Market is saturated with HDs and wannabe biker tough boys driving them. I do however feel that Polaris is the company to bring this bike back. I'd certainly buy one. But I would change a few things. For one the front fender doesn't show enough of the wheel and the bags are way too round. The fairing has way too much chrome on it, kinda looks like a chrysler. This bike has real potential and I hope they do well.
When Polaris bought out Indian ...they said they would be keeping the bike the same... why change a good thing. With proper advertising Indian bikes will sell big time. Changing the engine.................Nah..
But arent all these fuel injected? Thats a real deal braker for me. If Im to go with harley, indian or any bike for that matter, Id really want carburators.
Lol if I went to a dealer and they told me it was against there policy to let you test drive, Id respectivly reply "then I'll take my buisness elsewere" and never come back. Sounds like you spoke to a trainee or what you call them? Idk man, I think sports bikes take away that forever free feeling I love about riding a motorcycle. Ive ridden a few and all I wanna do is race it to its limits. Its not that proper mc feeling. But they shure are fun. I think the 883 is the only resonably priced HD.
This motorcycle just makes me sad... that engine is a work of art, a masterpiece and it's crammed into the ugliest thing they could imagine! One day when other companies clone this motor, I am so going to have a great project!
Very Nice Bike! But there is no way in hell I would want that electrical nightmare. All that stuff is nice when it's "All" working. The dealer "Shop" will be spending a lot of time with is bike.
If these bikes are bullet proof they will give the problem prone (cam chain tensioners, crappy oil pumps, lifters etc.) twin cam Harleys a run for the money. Harley will have to pull up it's socks.
The thrill of the hunt relives bringing back the old days.
Absolutely beautiful! Great job Polaris!
I'm a huge Harley fan (waiting for my 2014 Street Glide), but I am grateful to see such incredible bikes from Indian! American pride!!
Indian bikes look like the village people created them.
That's the point bro. Indian has a unique art
I put about 40 miles on one last week. From 80 to parking lot crawls, it felt completely natural. If they don't change it too much, it will develop character (and accessories/aftermarket interest) very quickly. Whatever us present HD riders decide, the competition is good for all of motorcycling.

I like turtles ?
I'm a big guy too. It felt a bit cramped until I got moving. It quickly became very comfy; I also had a better feeling of control compared to the EG. I'm keeping my Fat Bob for Poker Runs, but I now want a Chieftain for Route 66.
picked up the Roadmaster. Just pull off the storage and bottom fairings and you have a Chieftain plus plus. Well worth it.
A new piece of art.
Congratulations Indian!
My gf just purchased one. its a good bike for beginners or riders who want a light engine bike; however, Indian motorcycles are different class. It's big with powerful engine designed to go the distance. you can compare the new Indian to a touring bikes or big engine cruisers

I like it. Can't wait to take a test ride
The fairing DOES look like a Victory, but the other bikes in the line up are very nice. Good job Polaris & good luck.
Now That's Just Great....... I have to sell my 2013 Cross country tour!!
Love the Fairing!!!!!
Go Indian!!
You may want the Corbin seat if over 5'9", other than that, I loved everything about it, although a tad blingy.
I cant wait for their Scout model to come out.
I am a Harley guy but these indians are some beautifull bikes
i agreed. its frustrating when working on a bike and there are no parts available or ready to be bought. Harley has it all with parts and after market stuff.
Built in Iowa....all us manufactured parts.... can't wait!
Not the first time, but, yes it looks good with the bags off. The Yamaha V Star and Stratoliner are the same way without the ease of removal along with most bikes that added bags after the sale. Heck the Yammers can have their fairings taken off and you'd never know it was a "Deluxe" model.
looks as good as a Victory Crossroads.....respect for the builders.
you should up date this to the 2017 with the nav
After reading a bunch of the comments, I saw very few describing what you're suggesting. Most seem to welcome it and appreciate it. I do however see a large amount of Harley bashing. They are all over the website.
God this bike is beautiful. I'll take mine in Thunder black with a sissy bar for my passenger, and one of those tip over bars that goes behind the front wheel:) Kudos on the ABS.
Polaris, thanks for bringing back a cultural icon and making it right. Not many multi billion dollar corporations I would say that to. Or any at all.
I ride a zx10r and other various sport bikes. Never owned a cruiser, or really cared to own one. I'm impressed with the new indian line polaris is producing though. Kinda like the new 'classic' chief.

I ride sport bikes but I like this...
I'm considering one after college.
Once the bike establishes itself - which shouldn't take too long, you'll see dealers pop up all over the place. they may not be a numerous as Harley dealers (yet), but they should be about on a par with Victory or Triumph at the very least. I want one so badly!
Are they serious with the huge decal on the tank next to the filler cap?
the new Indian Chieftain is Beautiful and I would proudly ride one!!! At night id park it next my 2005 Harley Electraglide Standard .. Cowboys and Indians baby American Motorcycles.
That's a sweet ride!A little heavy,but sweet!!!
Thats great but I still want a vintage one.
Nice what CC is it ?
Full fairing? I know some sport bike guys that would dispute your definition of what a full fairing or full coverage fairing is.
With the styling of these bikes one will either love it or hate it ...
I would love to take one out for a test ride
Génial le look, mais y a t-il une marche arrière ?
I really love the vintage yes the leathers look great and the style the character and all the xtras which are standard and you can see a lot of work in a such a short period of time has gone into these machines and I like the war bonnet on front guard cant wait till I get one
Great bike & now there is a choice to that expensive Harley... That new motor should be bomb proof. nice job..
IT'S VERY BEAUTYFYL MOTORCYCLES.
Sadly I think at some point Indian/Victory will receive that stigma as well. Sonny Barger (Hells Angel founder) rides a Victory Vision according to his Autobiography. Very impressed!
The motorcycle of God!!!
Me encanta las motos ESPECIALMENTE LAS INDÍAN
ESCUSE ME, IT'S VERY BEAUTYFUL MOTORCYCLE.
Trading in my StreetGlide as soon as I can. I ride a harley cuz I'm different, but there are too many Street glides and road glides, that I feel cloned. I mean real leather, and everything is already chromed saves me $5000 from the start.
wow good way to put it
thank you and i will i love indian's and i like victory's to!!!!:)
Another tough guy behind the computer!
Out of my price range, but a good looking bike.
If I were young enough and healthy enough, I'd trade my Harley for an Indian in a heart beat.
Given the comments of support, they should out do Harley (dealers getting too prissy for my taste anymore) and regain the lead in cruiser bikes.
what about built-in GPS?
I say the best bike who is built in the last year is indian 4 look and beuty
Indian Chieftrain is 5000 euro cheaper than CVO Limited, the specs are pretty even and indian looks much better soo...
How can Harley justify a street glide for more $ compared to this? They can't... competition is a very good thing!
However it is to small for me. Im ~2m tall and 100+kg so the electra glide is the harley for me if id get one. And I too are curious about them. may beat me, but I thought the Indian had closed many years ago
Doesn't matter what people ride at least they're on two wheels, right.
Some Day.
give me a few weeks & I could chop this puppy up real nice!
... I thought polaris was a name for a missile???
classic
INDIAN MOTO VERYVERY VERY GOD BEUTIFUL
Its also 650cc
When Polaris bought out Indian ...they said they would be keeping the bike the same... why change a good thing. With proper advertising Indian bikes will sell big time. Changing the engine.................Nah..
I just became engorged!!!!
But arent all these fuel injected? Thats a real deal braker for me. If Im to go with harley, indian or any bike for that matter, Id really want carburators.
quiero que me regalen una indian o les tiro una maldicion y les fundo la fabrica
Lol if I went to a dealer and they told me it was against there policy to let you test drive, Id respectivly reply "then I'll take my buisness elsewere" and never come back. Proof everybody has an opinion and an asshole!
eh. looks like a stratoliner. i dont think harley has much to worry about with this. it is okay though
Thunder Black , looks AWESOME!!! I give my left nut for this bike!!! :)
Want!
nice bike but prefer a Triumph myself
Drooooool!
BUY INDIAN folks! It will be the next big thing. Ride one and you'll know....
WTF,No Onstar?
"True to the brand heritage", then why does the old one looks better than that wannabe vintage car.
Harley Davidson = Hardly Movingson
Harley is and always was a total POS, this bike is in a whole different league
I don't know much about motorbikes... but I do know a thing or two about beauty... and this my friends is motorcycle porn...
Beautiful bike though.
All these new indians I mean
H-D is soo screwed... lol... Are these made in America?
Que es la mera onda te extraño!!!
Very Nice Bike! But there is no way in hell I would want that electrical nightmare. All that stuff is nice when it's "All" working. The dealer "Shop" will be spending a lot of time with is bike.
Pass
Ps if you put a Harley logo on it you d not know the dif and that goes both ways ...nothing new just stamp stamp stamp 19K it better do more for me
No offense, but if you think the logo make the difference between those two then you don't know shit about American motorcycles.
If these bikes are bullet proof they will give the problem prone (cam chain tensioners, crappy oil pumps, lifters etc.) twin cam Harleys a run for the money. Harley will have to pull up it's socks.
